It’s over.

For a while, I managed to hold it together. There was pie to eat and wine to drink and a couch to sink gratefully into. There were friends to laugh with and sigh with, dishes to clean up, and an 8am meeting on my calendar to shake my fist at. There were distractions galore.

Around midnight Tuesday night, when my friends trickled out of the apartment, yawning, and I was alone again, I stretched out on the couch for the long wait. I remember how I felt in 2008 watching Obama’s acceptance speech, and I wanted that feeling again. Keep reading »

Obama’s Girls Looked Gorgeous Last Night

Barack Obama came out on top in last night’s history-making election, and we couldn’t be happier (or more sedated — it takes a lot of Valium to get through that vote count). Of course, our president is the first to say that he’d never have gotten where he is without his girls behind him, and they certainly dress the part of the picturesque first family.

The sisters chose similar silhouettes, with high-waisted circle skirts, easy flats, and tucked-in tops, but Malia’s bold colorblocking in contrast to Sasha’s sweet bow-front blouse (and that gorgeous watercolor green skirt) flaunted their individual sartorial preferences. They both managed to channel a cool, contemporary vibe while still looking like, well, the president’s children. Michelle wore a streamlined oxblood Michael Kors dress which, if you’re a steadfast follower of the first lady’s style, may look familiar — she wore it a few times back in 2010. Mrs. Obama knows full well that fashion isn’t single-use-only, and that’s exactly why we love her. (Among, like, a million other reasons, but that’s one of them.)

Can't Touch This!
  • You watched President Obama’s victory speech? Now it’s time for Key and Peele’s victory speech as Obama and his “anger translator” Luther.  A lot of us would be as enthusiastic as Luther right now if weren’t so goddamn tired after last night.
  • Mila Kunis is going to produce a drama called “Meridian Hills” set in the Midwest during 1972 at the height of the women’s movement. It’ll be about a woman who joins the Junior League and then gets involved in feminist activism.  [Celeb Dirty Laundry]

"The Best Is Yet To Come"

Considering I thought it was very possible that we might not know who won the election until this morning or even days from now, I guess I should be grateful that the thing that kept me up waaaaaay past my bedtime was waiting for Gov. Mitt Romney to deliver his concession speech and President Obama to give his victory speech. Watch President Obama’s passionate speech above, and check out Romney’s short but gracious speech after the jump.  Keep reading »

Barack Obama Wins 4 More Years As The President Of The United States

2012 Election Night Live Blog!

Well, our long national nightmare known as ELECTION SEASON is almost over. Later tonight, we will (probably) know who will be the President of the United States for the next four years. Will Barack Obama secure himself another term? Or will Mitt Romney succeed in getting me to move to Mexico? In addition to updating this post with relevant news as the returns come in, I’ll be sitting on my couch, bottle of cheap champagne in hand, livetweeting the whole nerve-racking debacle. You can follow me on Twitter at @xoamelia – where more of my bleeding heart liberal spewing will occur — and also @TheFrisky. Play our Election Night Drinking Game with me! It’ll be fun. How are you going to get through the next 24 hours of election news, voting and results? If you’re anything like us, you’ll need a stiff drink or three to watch the votes roll in tonight. We are nervous as heck, and this drinking game should help us, and you, relax a little bit. Until the cold, harsh light of Wednesday morning hits us, anyway.

Cockblock The Vote!

If only women were voting in next week’s election, Barack Obama would win … which is why men need to stay home on Election Day for the good of America. Starring Franchesca Ramsey, Sara Benincasa and other funny ladies who leant themselves to this “Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell” skit, it’s the best case I’ve heard for keeping the polls progesterone-only.

The Best “Obama Calling” GIFs And Memes

Somebody decided to post this picture of the president on Reddit, titling it ‘My new favorite picture of President Obama.’ People went crazy over it pretty much immediately, because Obama’s exhausted attempt at smiling is pretty goofy looking. So many great memes came out of this it was hard to pick our favorites, but we tried our best. And the GIFs. Good grief, the GIFs.  Read more…

Lena's First Time

“Girls” creator Lena Dunham has come out as a supporter of President Obama by recording this campaign video, in which she talks about her first time … voting, that is. “Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody,” she says. “It should be with a great guy.” Dunham goes on to say that voters should cast their ballot for someone that “cares about whether you get health insurance, and specifically whether you get birth control.” The saucy ad is naturally inspiring some conservative ire, with some calling it “disgusting” and questioning its “appropriateness.” Keep reading »
