Beware of pressing the “like” button on this story, as we may have created a monster. Lior and Vardit Adler, a couple in Israel, just had a baby girl and decided to name her … “Like.” Yes, as in the Facebook‘s universal sign of approval, or as in a Valley Girl’s most frequently uttered word. “I wanted something unique,” explains Lior. “At first I was looking at Chinese names, and considered the name ‘Qing Yu Lang.’ But in the end, my wife responded to ‘Like.’ I have very few friends on Facebook—only about 120. So far only 50 of them like ‘Like.’”
This isn’t the first time a social networking site has inspired a name. Keep reading »
On Friday, Nick Cannon sat down on the “The Gayle King Show” to talk about being a new papa to twins. “It was surreal for me,” he said of being in the delivery room. “Of course, it had to be a production and I was the production manager. I had a camera in one hand and was DJing with the other.” DJing, you ask? Apparently, Mariah wanted her babies to come into the world hearing a song sung by … herself. And not just any Mariah song, mind you—a live version full of audience applause. And thus, her babies emerged to the sound of her performing “Fantasy” at Madison Square Garden. For real.
Oh, and Nick of course talked about “dem babies“‘ names. Keep reading »
Celebrities come up the most insane baby names. Where do they ge their inspiration? Duh! From Gary Busey. In this sketch for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Gary consults with famous folk over the phone for $2.17 a minute to come up with names like “Papaya Aquarium” and “Snuggie Hammerhead.” “I’m Gary Busey and I name babies,” he explains. I wonder if he’s available to the non-famous among us? [NY Daily News] Keep reading »
Is there an unwritten rule that celebutards are required to name their babies something completely outrageous and idiotic? The kiddos will get enough flack for having a famous mommy and daddy, so topping it off with a stupid name is just cruel and unnecessary.
It was recently revealed that Mariah Carey and her toothpick-sized husby Nick Cannon named their newborn twins Monroe (semi-normal) and Moroccan (WTF!?), named after a room in their palatial residence. That’s just disgusting. But is it the worst Hollywood baby name? You be the judge. Click here to vote! Keep reading »
The list of top trending baby names in 2011 is further proof that “Teen Mom” may be ruining the next generation. The most popular boys and girls names so far this year are Bentley and Maci. (Bentley, of course, is the name “Teen Mom” Maci, ahem, gave her son.) Okay, if you say so, new parents. Also on the trending list are Quinn (from “Glee,” who I should note was also a pregnant teen) and Knox (from the Jolie-Pitt brood. What? No love for Viv?). In other baby news, Bryan Adams named his daughter Mirabella Bunny after … the Easter Bunny. This is a strange world we live in. [MSNBC, Huffington Post] Keep reading »
