When I first saw a picture of a baby wearing a Beyonce-inspired lace front wig — this was back in December of 2009 — I found myself disturbed by the idea. Mostly, because the mother said, “It’s never too early for my baby to start looking glamorous like Beyonce!” which I thought was ridiculous. One of our commenters described the look as “a shrunken head with a baby’s body still attached,” an incredibly accurate description. After my indignation wore off, I found myself returning to the picture many times the following week and asking myself: Why is it wrong put a wig on a baby? This is a story about babies in wigs! My most favorite topic there is. As I mentioned previously, if I ever have a baby, it will be made to wear a variety of wigs, depending on my/its mood. I don’t care if you think that’s strange, it’s what I’ll need to do to ensure that I am the best parent I can be. Anyhow, I am here to tell you about what is being called an “epic baby hair scandal.” The very best kind of scandal there is!
The blog Mommy Shorts held a photo contest for “Most Epic Head of Baby Hair,” and the winner, Layla, dubbed “Baby Annette Funicello,” was accused by sore loser mommies on Facebook of wearing a wig. I think the most wonderful thing in the whole wide world is a baby in a wig. I don’t have my own kids, but if I ever do, I will make them wear wigs everyday. Because how can you be annoyed by a kid in a wig? It’s just not possible. Halloween is the time of year that parents everywhere put wigs on their children, which is a real treat for me. I especially like kids who get dressed up as pop/rock stars. Click through to see a few of my favorite minis. I’m still waiting for the trend to catch on year-round.
