The 85th Academy Awards are this Sunday, and some of our favorite actresses have been nominated to take home the gold. We couldn’t be more proud of their career achievements… but we also want to know, what are they going to wear? Or more accurately, we want them to know what we think they should wear. Got that? We can’t count on Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts, Amy Adams, and Anne Hathaway heeding our attempts at styling, but there’s no harm in trying. If I were dressing these five Oscar nominees, here’s what I would put them in…
The ELLE Style Awards, held annually in London, celebrate the year’s achievements in both fashion and show business, with accolades spanning from Red Carpet Designer of the Year (Roksanda Ilincic) and International Designer of the Year (Stella McCartney) to Best Actor (Bradley Cooper) and Best TV Show (“Game of Thrones”). Needless to say, they draw in a very stylish crowd each time around; plus, it’s just better because it’s British. Check out the looks we loved (and loathed, and the ones that made us ask, “who did this to you?”) from the event in the gallery above!
Was anyone else surprised by some of the hair and makeup at the Golden Globes? For example: trend forecasters (this is a real job) have been calling for plenty of dark lips, particularly bordeaux and burgundy shades, this winter, but there were a sparse few to be found this past Sunday. Instead, our favorite celebs (and, yes, long-standing beauty icons) opted for fresher-faced looks, eluding any of the seasonal “trends” that were predicted. It was refreshing to see that the stars stayed true to their own personal sensibilities than just, “This is what’s hot for right now!” We did notice a few patterns popping up on the red carpet… Let’s take a look at the biggest 5 trends from the evening, and how to score them for ourselves.
Ginnifer Goodwin usually looks one million shades of uncomfortable in whatever ill-advised avant-garde look she’s chosen as of late, so I’m thrilled to finally see her in a dress that doesn’t epitomize a classic case of the clothes wearing you (though I maintain that an angled shoulder-length “lob” would be infinitely more flattering on her round face than her current cropped style). This pretty Monique Lhuillier lace frock, while a bit twee for my personal taste (and who cares about that?), perfectly highlights Ginnifer’s girlish woodland nymph aesthetic, but the studded black heels and mother-of-pearl clutch keep the ensemble from veering too saccharine. On point! Bonus points for the neon lips (and matching nails!), and pssst: if you’re in the market for a hot pink pout just like Ginnifer’s, NARS Carthage is the be-all, end-all, case closed.
