Hey! So you probably noticed The Frisky was down all day. We seem to be up and running — FOR NOW!!!! — so I can finally bring you this hilariously late recap of last night’s MTV VMAs. I know, you forgot it happened already.
Without the promise of Miley Cyrus’s flapjacks twerking against Robin Thicke’s sleazy groin, last night’s MTV Video Music Awards had a lot to live up to. So how did it go? Well, there was a lot less tongue, thank god, much better twerking (thanks Nicki!), the Kardashians at their worst, and so, so, so much Beyonce. Here are the moments not to be missed from last night’s MTV VMAs.
Nicki Minaj had a lightening fast costume change in between performing her single “Anaconda” and her collab with Ariana Grande and Jessie J, “Bang Bang,” to open the show — but apparently she wasn’t zipped into her second dress correctly because she had to clutch the front together to prevent a wardrobe malfunction. “I didn’t see the Golden Globes, because the idea of watching of watching the popular rich kids in high school congratulating themselves, the idea of the popular, beautiful rich kids from high school putting on a show to congratulate themselves … oh boy.”
–RuPaul, on the whole trouble with awards season, in Paper magazine. Ru also dishes on the new season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the latest crop of queens. “The new groups are always different shades of…shade. It’s hard to put into words, but they’re young. They’re very contemporary. We’ve got some girls who are old-school but not as many as we’ve had in the past.” [Paper Mag]
It’s not often that you can find so many celebs in the same room — which is why we’re taking this opportunity to ogle the amazing hair and makeup at the 2013 Golden Globes. Who got it right? And who got it tragically, tragically wrong? We’ve made our picks — now tell us yours in the comments!
As the saying goes, from great R&B bard/lady pee-er on-er R. Kelly, “After the show is the after-party.” And so we’ve decided to take a look at some of the Golden Globes after-party pics — full of celebs who changed outfits between the Globes and getting their drink on. These also include some celebs who maybe didn’t bother going to the actual awards show — but who really like to party. Those must have been some pretty interesting limo rides, right?
The word diva has been horribly overused of late. Virtually everyone’s a diva. You send your chicken dish back because it tastes funny? Diva. You want your water at room temperature? Divalicious. You can’t stand yellow M&Ms? Complete diva behavior.
But then there are some real divas. And Sunday night, VH1 put together a little show honoring them — women like Whitney Houston, who received a tribute performance from Melanie Fiona and Jordin Sparks. We may have been called divas in our time, but we’re nothing compared to these ladies.
Check out all the diva-appropriate fashion above!
Last night, the 2nd annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards were held. The big winners were … well, there were a lot of winners. But Christina Hendricks and Jon Hamm were honored for their work on “Mad Men,” Tina Fey won for “30 Rock,” and even Danny Devito took home a prize (the “Television Icon Award,” natch).
But what were they wearing? Click through to find out.
