James Cameron’s films always make a stylistic impact, from “Titanic”‘s Heart of the Ocean to the blue-skinned, pseudo-feline Na’vi people in “Avatar,” so it’s only natural that someone would eventually arrange to depict his instantly recognizable scenes in a high fashion way. In celebration of “Titanic”‘s 3D re-release, Harper’s Bazaar welcomes us to the world of James Cameron, in which model Hailey Clauson (yes, that Hailey Clauson) poses alongside the director’s most iconic images. I can’t help but feel that it’s a little strange to have Clauson, swathed in a pale pink fur and silk gown, leaning against a model of the Titanic (the tragedy of which, you know, actually happened), but the photo is beautifully striking nonetheless. My favorite, though? The model in a sequined ombre Blumarine dress, her skin fading into CGI as Neytiri looks on. [Harper's Bazaar]

Hello, Home Tree: An “Avatar” Theme Park Is In The Works

Are you one of the people who experienced “Pandora Withdrawal” after seeing “Avatar“? Well, Disney is working on a solution for your “Avatar” blues. The entertainment giant announced today that it will be creating an “Avatar” theme park within the Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. They break ground on the $400 million project in 2013 and estimate that it will take five years to complete. Meanwhile, the first sequel to “Avatar” will be hitting theaters in the winter of 2014.

James Cameron, for one, is thrilled with Disney’s plan. Keep reading »

Zoe Saldana Got The Literal Blues After The Release Of “Avatar”

“The year after ‘Avatar’ was just emotionally overwhelming. I was traveling all over the world, waking up in different time zones. Your body gets exhausted, and by the end of the year I just collapsed … I was sitting in my hotel room, and I couldn’t stop crying. I couldn’t stay awake. I must have slept for an entire month. It took me the rest of the year, even as I was working and shooting ‘Colombiana,’ to pick myself up.”

Zoe Saldana tells Latina magazine that the mega success of “Avatar” didn’t bring her happiness, and in fact she suffered from serious depression in the year after its release. But don’t worry, she feels much better now. Her new movie comes out soon and she’s engaged to actor Keith Britton. Just goes to show that getting your dream is more emotionally complex than you ever realized. [NY Daily News] Keep reading »

A New Take On “Something Blue”

I was hoping that “Avatar” fever had died down, but Wu Lingyuan, China, is keeping it alive. This region contains the mountain ranges in the movie, and enterprising citizens have found a way to turn that into dollar signs by offering “Avatar” wedding packages. The view is gorgeous, but takers are a little less excited about the Na’vi provided. As one recent bride explained, “The Na’vi were a couple of forestry workers dressed up in long underwear dyed blue wearing some very unconvincing masks. It was really pathetic.” Lucky for us, she had the picture to back it up. [/Film] Keep reading »

What, no midnight screening? “This Ain’t Avatar XXX“—the CGI-tastic Hustler skin flick that’s based on “Avatar“—was officially released today. The movie costs $50 for a Blu-ray disk that comes with both a 2D and 3D side. Yes, this is the world’s first 3D adult movie and Larry Flynt is very proud. Keep reading »

“This Ain’t Avatar XXX” Promises 3D Blue Sex This Fall

Wow. I had no idea when I put my secret desire out into the universe — “Oh, won’t someone please make a porn version of ‘Avatar’ with Na’vis having sex in 3D?” — that my dream would come true. Hustler’s ingeniously titled “This Ain’t Avatar XXX” will be released on DVD this fall. Must we wait so long to see interplanetary Smurf sex? Yes. [/Film] Keep reading »

James Cameron Sued By Unpublished Sci-Fi Romance Author

Avatar” was a mega-money maker for all involved, but author Kelly Van seems to think she was left out of the pay day to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars. Why? She claims that James Cameron stole ideas from her unpublished sci-fi romance novel, Sheila the Warrior: the Damned. She’s filed a copyright lawsuit against the filmmaker, stating that the characters, setting, plot, sound, visual effects, and total concept of “Avatar” are similar to her book which is about people from Earth who travel to another planet called “Tibet.” I wonder how she came up with that name? Very creative. Keep reading »

Reach Out & Touch (A Porn Star) In 3-D

The future of pornography is here, and it’s more graphic than ever before. Blame (or thank, depending on how you feel about the genre), the success of Hollywood mega hits like “Avatar” and “Alice In Wonderland” for what some predict will take porn to the next level, literally. French director Tom Sridix has been working on the release (ha) of the full-length, 3-D, dirty film “Shortcuts 3-D” for over a year, but wanted to wait until James Cameron caused the current mania in order to fully capitalize on the moment. He’s glad he did and is convinced that 3-D makes for the ultimate erotic film experience: “… you feel like you can reach out and touch her.” Keep reading »

“Avatar” Takes On The Runway

We’ve talked about the “Alice In Wonderland” impact on the runway, but it looks like this year’s Oscar darling has the Disney classic beat. “Avatar,” the James Cameron flick about big blue aliens and their planet (OK, so I fell asleep during the movie), raked in over $2 billion so it was only a matter of time before the fashion industry hopped on a train to planet Pandora. Jean Paul Gaultier took an Eden-like approach to his January show, and Vogue‘s March issue will feature a 10-page spread of forest-inhabiting, tattoo-smothered models. New York designer Jen Kao has already proclaimed that her next collection will be an homage to the sci-fi film. The photo above shows some “Avatar”-esque looks from Valentino and Gautlier. What do you think — would you dress like a Navi? [New York Times] Keep reading »

LARPers Get Blue For “Avatar”

As a closet nerd, I’ve secretly wanted to at least know someone who does LARPing, otherwise known as “live action role playing.” So, I was pretty excited when I saw Live “Avatar” Role-Playing featuring the Na’vi people of Hometree, Wisconsin, frolicking in the forest with the tree of souls and tsahaylu-ing (making a sacred bond) with plants and stuff. They also say really awesome things like, “F**k you, sky bitch!” and “I didn’t believe in God before ‘Avatar.’” It’s so spot-on, it almost makes me want to go blue and run around Los Angeles making a mockumentary of my own. Too bad I’m all tsahaylu’ed to my computer, or I’d totally get right on that. Keep reading »
