8 Hilariously Misleading Covers Slapped On Classic Books

bad-book-covers

The whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” thing came about for good reason: The people who design book covers often don’t even read the books. Who has the time? Now, you wouldn’t think this would be a problem when designing the cover for a classic everyone is familiar with — you don’t have to know how to read to know what, say, The Wizard of Oz or 1984 is about.

So when those classic books fall into the hands of the rare cover artist who somehow has no idea what’s going on, that’s when hilarity ensues. See all 8 covers on Cracked…

Brilliant Photoshop Project Shows That “Beauty Is Only Pixel Deep”

Photoshop Beauty Is Only Pixel Deep

Art student Anna Hill, 24, has been using Photoshop for over a decade and knows exactly how much magazine images are digitally altered to achieve that “better than perfect” look. To illustrate this disturbing fact of modern day media, she turned her Photoshop skills on her own self portraits to create a series of mock ads for Photoshop beauty products, like the “all-in-one beauty kit” above that promises everything from perfect skin to a nose job — instantly! The ads are sharp satire, but the craziest part is how the exercise affected Hill’s own self-image. “One thing I noticed when I was doing these was that when I suddenly went back to the unedited [photo of myself], it looked so wrong and kinda gross,” she said. “It made me extra aware of how skewed my perception was after looking at the edited ones for a while.” Who hasn’t felt a similar sense of shame and “wrongness” after flipping through a fashion magazine and then taking a look in the mirror?

Check out a couple more of Hill’s imaginary ads, including a limb-lengthening serum and a pore-disappearing treatment (“For that android look you’ll never achieve in real life”), after the jump! Keep reading »

Artist Turns His Ex-Girlfriends Into Shoes

In his new project, 12 SHOES for 12 LOVERS, artist Sebastian Errazuriz puts all of his past relationships on display as a collection of shoes. “When I started this process I never imagined where it would end up, it’s been infinitely more complex, revealing and difficult than I thought,” said Errazuriz, whose Shoes are currently on display in Miami. Well,I would think so.

His Shoes, with names like “The Rock,” “The Boss,” “The Virgin,” “The Hot Bitch,” “The Gold Digger” and the “Cry Baby” include personal photos and stories in which Errazuriz reveals “a glimpse of each relationship and in the process exposes himself to scrutiny and judgment.” (He also shares intimate details, which I’m sure they’re thrilled about.) The women’s names have been changed to protect their identities, but I’m sure they know who they are. And now, you will spend the rest of the day imagining what you would look like as a high heel. I think the shoe version of me would definitely have a face. After the jump, you can see a couple more of Errazuriz’s Shoes, I mean exes. [Laughing Squid] Keep reading »

Artist Drapes Nearly-Naked White Women Over His Shoulders As ‘Trophy Scarves’

trophy-scarves

It’s that time of year when the weather gets a bit cooler and you’ve got to pull out your winter gear — big coat, gloves, hat and scarf — there’s nothing out of the ordinary about that. But one artist is raising eyebrows with his choice of ‘scarves’ that aren’t wool or even silk … they’re white women. Read more on Huffington Post…

“Vaginal Knitting” Is Here: Watch This Woman Knit From Wool Inserted Inside Her Vagina

Knitting & Purling From Your Pussy

When I first heard the term “vaginal knitting,” I assumed it meant knitting with your pubic hair. [Really? I assumed it meant knitting things that look like vaginas. -- Amelia] But no. Vaginal knitting is inserting a skein of wool into your vulva and knitting with it!

Whoa. Crafting just went to a whole new level. Keep reading »

James Franco’s Latest Work Involves Batman, Semen (NSFW)

James Franco

On the subject of James Franco, I have learned not to ask questions. For clarification: how many questions? None. Zero questions. Just go along with it. The provocative Mind of Franco has developed a new “work” (??) called “50 Shades of Batman and Robin,” which presumably involves elements of both the “50 Shades” series and its S&M connotations and the beloved DC Comics superheroes Batman & Robin. The artist introduced his latest release on Facebook today in the form of two images. The first, depicting a shirtless man (likely Franco himself) and his nipples in a Batman costume and bondage restraints, is fairly tame by Franco standards. But the second photo … well, it’s a lot. Or a load, rather. Keep reading »
