Well, she shaved her head and lost a ton of weight to play Fantine in the latest movie version of “Les Misérables,” but from the looks of this early trailer (the movie isn’t due out until Christmas), it was worth it. Anne Hathaway sings a pretty damn good rendition of “I Dreamed A Dream” as Victor Hugo’s ill-fated prostitute (who sells her hair and her teeth to take care of her own sickly child); hopefully the film is as solid because the last one — starring Uma Thurman, Claire Danes, and Liam Neeson — was terrrrrrible.
This weekend, I received a single-sentence introductory message from a guy on OKCupid. “Have you ever considered cutting your hair short?” he asked, not signing his name or telling me anything about himself or really anything else that made me inclined to respond. Is he negging me? I thought. Is he saying I look bad with longer hair? I was being paranoid, of course, but the truth is, going super short terrifies me because I’m afraid I would look, well, terrible.
Then I came home and saw this photo of Anne Hathaway, who just chopped off all her hair, like, super short, for her role is “Les Miserables,” in which she plays a struggling factory worker who is forced into prostitution and winds up selling her hair to make ends meet. (She also is supposedly on a horrific-sounding 500-calorie-per-day diet, in order to lose 15 lbs. for the role.) First of all, I totally commend Anne Hathaway for her dedication to her craft. But doesn’t she look so … uncomfortable in this photo? Like she’s not happy with her new look. Dammit, Anne — I’m pretending Anne is reading this — you look awesome! You have balls I don’t have! Wear that super short pixie cut with pride! And if you need inspiration, may I direct you to the long list of gorgeous and talented actresses who have also gone super-short in the last few years? “I never sit in judgment. Lindsay Lohan and I have more in common than people think. We’ve all done things we shouldn’t. It is just that I did stuff at college when nobody knew about it, so I’m not a saint. I wasted time doing self-destructive things. I found out you can only dance on so many table tops. I got all that out of my system and I am healthy and grounded.”
– Reason #412 why I love Anne Hathaway: she is honest about how her squeaky-clean “good girl” image is just that — an image. It’s true that everyone experiments when they’re young, but child stars like Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus have to do it in the public eye. Although Anne is being pretty gracious here … something tells me that she and Lindsay have nothing in common. [The Sun UK]
Sure, eyebrows are important because they keep the sweat out of our eyes. But in the case of Anne Hathaway, they prevent her from looking like one of the aliens in “Mars Attacks.” [247Lol.net]
A little birdie (that would be me) attended the New York City premiere of “The Iron Lady” last night and boy, were there a lot of celebs! Somehow I managed to stand three feet away from Meryl Streep without screetching “EEEE! I LOVE YOU!” and subsequently getting arrested. Somehow I doubt Amelia could exercise similar restraint were she in the presence of The Gos.
Perhaps due to the serious nature of the film — a biopic of Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom — the ladies in attendance opted for a sober little black dress look. Some were hits, some were misses. And Coco Rocha, bless her heart, accidentally got lost on the way to the Oscars red carpet.
Check out all the looks — the good, the bad, and the straight-up WTF — above!
I think of Anne Hathaway as an arbiter of class. I speak for myself, but I’ve never heard or read anything that depicted Anne to be any less than a contemporary Audrey … except for maybe the financial crimes of her ex-BF, but we can’t hold that against her. Earlier this week, Anne attended the Princess Grace Awards Gala here in NYC alongside Julie Andrews and Princess Charlene of Monaco (wow, she hangs out with such riffraff!). When I saw the pictures from the event online, I was ridiculously impressed by her ability to carry this embellished dress. I am a harsh critic of sparkle and shine on clothing, but Anne’s Valentino could make a convert out of me. This got me thinking: what other celebrities have rocked sparkly dresses with total class? There’s not an ounce of garishness on any of these ladies.
You’d think Anne Hathaway would be happy with hosting the Oscars and getting nominated once herself. But no, that bitch is hungry for more! Watch her secret “Jersey Shore” audition tape here, as well as the ones by Paul Rudd and Dennis Haysbert. And please, wear a bikini in the hot tub. [Team Coco]
Comic book fans seemed uniformly disappointed by the first image of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.” Perhaps this new photo will set minds at ease. Sure, the cat suit might not be as shiny as usual, but in this shot it appears far closer to what we’d expected, complete with cat mask and ears. Anne has joked that she is subsisting on “kale and dust” to fit into this thing. Is it worth it? [ONTD] Keep reading »
Wow, Anne Hathaway‘s acting has improved 900 percent in the past 15 years. Movieline recently posted this video of Anne’s first commercial, for Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, which was shot in 1997. Apparently, it was Anne’s first time on camera and it sure shows between those crocodile tears and overly-hopeful looks. Still, at least it’s a funny commercial. This could have been far more embarrassing.
