Fashion insiders Reality TV fans have been buzzing about Whitney Port‘s Whitney Eve fashion collection since it debuted. And while filming her reality show, “The City,” Whitney had the opportunity most young fashion designers only dream about — she showcased her collection for Joe Zee and Anne Slowey, two big-wigs over at Elle. Sadly, Whitney Eve failed to impress. Anne tried to make Whitney feel better about her efforts, which Joe dubbed “items” not a collection, by telling her that Alexander Wang started small, with one sweater. Stylista: Still Not Convinced This Is Worth Watching

Back in August I told you “Stylista” would be a must-watch for us at The Frisky, but now I’m not so sure. As I watched “ANTM” last night, I was inundated with promos for “Stylista,” and the CW even aired an unnecessary special preview 10 minutes before the show began. I still wasn’t sure I actually wanted to watch it because I don’t think the world needs another reality show in which self-absorbed, talentless bitches compete for a prize that really should go to someone more deserving. I did watch it ultimately because there wasn’t much else on and will now fill you in on the cat fighting and the pointless assistant tasks. Keep reading »

Dresses, Don’t Leave Us

Anne Slowey, fashion news director at Elle, told The New York Times that the dress will end its long reign at the end of August, and we should all wear trousers instead. This is a sad prediction, and rather unexpected. Retail analysts at NPD Group determined that from April 2006 to April 2007, there were more than $5 billion sales of dresses, 30 percent higher than the previous year. We wear them about four days out of every week and are not sure how our legs will react to being encased in fabric all day. Dresses are wonderful creations. Yes, they’re feminine and flattering, but they have other merits, as well. As Amelia says, “They’re drafty, and they make it easier to pee in public.” [NY Times] Keep reading »
