It’s perhaps no surprise that the fashion world would come out in support of a more liberal presidential candidate. But what is shocking is that the normally quite demure Vogue editor Anna Wintour would deign to make a campaign video on behalf of one. But yet here is Ms. Wintour, openly praising and supporting Barack Obama and encouraging supporters to enter to win a seat at an upcoming fundraising event! Still, it’s nice to see that even in the throes of political campaigning, Wintour remains her intimidating self. [YouTube]

The latest installment in the Kim Kardashian vs. Anna Wintour saga leaves a puzzling taste in the mouths of fashionistas everywhere. A week has passed since rumors first began to fly that Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue (and consequential arbiter of all things en vogue), is not only not a card-carrying member of the Kardashian fan klub, but that she refuses to deign her glossy to feature Kim in any way. (See also: spotlight-hungry publicity queen Kim’s eyebrow-raising absence from the Met Ball.)

Then, unsettlingly, the reality star announced this morning (via Twitter, naturally) that she’ll be the subject of a photoshoot in the July/August issue of Vogue Italia. But the magazine’s editor, Franca Sozzani, tweeted a correction to say that Kim will actually be in Uomo Vogue, the men’s offshoot. Kim also posted the above picture from the spread — she looks uncannily like her mother, doesn’t she? Spooky! [Fashionista]

Today in Things That Are Not At All Surprising: the queen of American fashion and the queen of American television are not gal pals. Rumor has it that the reason Kanye West turned up solo to the Met Ball on Monday night (and looked très bitter the entire evening) was that ladyfriend Kim Kardashian was left off the guest list that Vogue’s Anna Wintour, the co-chair of the event, had a hand in penning. Take these reports with a grain of salt — like most unfounded celeb gossip, they come from an “unnamed source” — but this beef sounds pretty damn reasonable to me. Kim has landed the cover, if not multiple, of nearly every major women’s glossy, but all things Kardashian have been suspiciously absent from Anna’s publication. It’s not a stretch to say that the Wintour/Vogue/Met Ball brand (definition: class) is on a diametrically opposite side of the spectrum from Kim’s brand (definition: ass). Case in point: though she wasn’t in attendance, she did live-Tweet the entire event. That’s not very Chanel, now is it? [Fashionista]

Anna Wintour expressed a rare bit of enthusiasm on last night’s “Colbert Report” in discussing President Obama’s support of gay marriage. “I am thrilled,” Wintour managed to get out with a smile, even. “There were tears in the office at Vogue today. I think it’s a long overdue endorsement. And oh, they also discussed the Costume Institute’s “Schiaparelli and Prada: An Impossible Conversation.” [Comedy Central]

As if we need any more reason to believe that our President is as hip as they come: Obama’s throwing a party in his hometown, and all the biggest fashion folks are invited. Back in February, the POTUS introduced Runway To Win, a fundraising effort featuring reasonably priced Barack-branded clothing and accessories with proceeds going towards his re-election campaign, and now his people have announced a star-studded event for June 12. The show, hosted by Anna Wintour and Iman, will honor the unveiling of the Runway To Win pop-up shop and will feature looks by Prabal Gurung, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander Wang, and more (you can check out, and purchase, all of the offerings at the Runway To Win website). I’m kind of clueless about politics, but I do know a thing or two about fashion, and it looks like Obama does, too. Naturally, that has nothing to do with his Presidency, but I know it definitely piques my interest in the upcoming election. [Huffington Post]

Last week, Anna Wintour attended a luncheon at the State Department in honor of Prime Minister David Cameron, and like any visitor to a prestigious event at a serious government building, she rocked a pair of dark shades inside. I’m a little surprised she wasn’t arrested for such a blatant display of fierceness, but I’m sure even the guards were like, “Damn, girl. Do your thing.”

I love me some Taylor Swift, but honestly, I never thought she was the Vogue type. Tay-Tay is more suburban mall than bombshell and all those princess dresses are not exactly fashion-forward. But lo and behold, here she is on the February 2012 issue of Vogue with straightened hair and a big-ass wide-brimmed hat. Taylor looks more grown-up than usual here … which I suppose is the point of posing for Vogue, no? [Styleite]

Anna Wintour Says Women Are Unfairly Criticized For Loving Fashion

“When women are in positions of power, and they’re featured in a women’s magazine like Vogue … they tend to be incredibly unfairly criticized. It’s an incredibly old-fashioned approach. Just because you’re in a position of power, and you look good and you enjoy fashion — does that mean you’re an idiot, or that it’s not seemly to be in a woman’s magazine? If a man is in GQ, they don’t get the same kind of criticism.”

– Vogue HBIC Anna Wintour on how women are unfairly judged for enjoying fashion. I wasn’t really aware that women were terribly criticized for being into fashion. Do you feel that women are judged harshly for loving clothes? Perhaps what Anna’s actually alluding to is the way that women’s fashion magazines aren’t taken seriously — because of their emphasis on materialism and consumerism? [Wall Street Journal]

What We Can Learn From Anna Wintour

When it comes to fashion, Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour is probably the most powerful woman in the world. It’s not just that she commands the pages of one of the most-loved fashion mags, or that she conceived and developed Fashion’s Night Out, it’s that she oversees the Council of Fashion Designer of Americas Fund, which supports emerging young designers. To win Wintour’s discerning approval is akin to being granted the keys to the fashion kingdom, and what she says absolutely goes on the pages of Vogue and beyond. So, we thought we’d take a moment to examine Wintour’s personal sartorial musings. How does the Queen of All Clothing actually dress? What can we learn from her style rules?
