If You Want A Promotion, Work Like Anna Wintour

We’ve learned a few things from watching Anna Wintour on TV specials and in “The September Issue.” So it’s not at all surprising that filmmaker R.J. Cutler, the man behind the documentary, picked up a few pointers from the Vogue editor-in-chief during the eight months he filmed her at work. Keep reading to find out four of Anna’s professional philosophies. Since they helped Anna become the powerful woman she is today, we’re sure that applying them to your 9-to-5 will get you promoted. Carey Mulligan Ignores Anna Wintour’s Oscar Advice

While not everyone was crazy about the black and white Vionnet dress Carey Mulligan wore to the BAFTA Awards last weekend, the 24-year-old actress thinks she has everything under control in the wardrobe department. Carey told People StyleWatch she’s not going to follow Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s advice when she’s picking her dress for the Academy Awards.

“Anna said I should wear short for the Oscars. I was like ‘No, that is so not what I had in my head when I was six years old!’”

While it’s surprising that Carey would even consider disobeying the queen of the fashion world, we think it’s notable Anna suggested Carey wear a short dress to a fancy affair. Sure, we’ve seen cocktail dresses at black-tie weddings, but these are the Oscars we’re talking about. It seems our culture has gotten so casual that the rules of formal dressing have been completely thrown out the window.

When Anna Says Red, You Go Red

We’ve all heard the stories of Anna Wintour casually suggesting something of a beauty change to a model or designer and theverynexthour said model or designer has put that piece of “advice” into effect. Well, word is that model Maggie Rizer (she was huge in the late ’90s/early ’00s and featured in campaigns for Calvin Klein, GAP, every country-version of Vogue, etc. … then her dad up and stole her millions to play the lotto—and lost), has heard from fashion’s end-all, be-all. Anna said that she’d like to see Maggie back as a redhead. Sure, casual comment. Except that it’s not at all casual. Keep reading »

A More Fashionable Mt. Rushmore

If you’re in Paris, um, now (Hi Leo!), you’ll need to make a stop at Colette simply to check out their windows. Everyone knows Mt. Rushmore, featuring former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. But Item Idem, aka Cyril Duval, a French fashion artist, decided to infuse a bit of style into the monstrous construction. He created an LED display called Mt. Blushmore, replacing the heads of state with notable fashion figures Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, and John Galliano. And now, Colette decided to honor the artist with his own window exhibit, meaning the busts of fashion greats are on display and available for all to see. It’s fashion meets politics in the most perfectly cheeky way. [Sassybella] Keep reading »

Anna Wintour Is One Fashionable Politician

Anna Wintour had a very special birthday yesterday. Not only did the Vogue editor turn 60 years old but President Obama hired her for a job! Don’t worry, Anna’s not leaving her masthead position any time soon, but she does have a new title to add to her resume. She’ll join fellow fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker on the President’s Committee for the Arts and Humanities. The job task ahead of her is all about giving Obama advice on how to bring the arts into society. We think she can handle that one. She’s already made a huge statement with Fashion’s Night Out, which was so popular that a sequel date set has been set. We certainly look forward to Anna’s projects as a part of the government, because if FNO was any indication, there could be a fashion national holiday in our future. Hey, getting a day off work to go shopping doesn’t sound so bad. [WWD] Keep reading »

The Halloween Inspiration Board: Anna Wintour

If you’ve ever wanted to be truly feared, we’ve got the costume for you. We’re not talking “scary” in the way that zombies or pre-Twilight vampires are. That’s child’s play. We’re talking grown women (and men) crying in closets in your wake. For that kind of terror, Vogue editor Anna Wintour is your only option. Keep reading »
