I love me some Taylor Swift, but honestly, I never thought she was the Vogue type. Tay-Tay is more suburban mall than bombshell and all those princess dresses are not exactly fashion-forward. But lo and behold, here she is on the February 2012 issue of Vogue with straightened hair and a big-ass wide-brimmed hat. Taylor looks more grown-up than usual here … which I suppose is the point of posing for Vogue, no? [Styleite]

Just because you’re in a position of power, and you look good and you enjoy fashion — does that mean you’re an idiot, or that it’s not seemly to be in a woman’s magazine? If a man is in GQ, they don’t get the same kind of criticism.”

When it comes to fashion, Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour is probably the most powerful woman in the world. It’s not just that she commands the pages of one of the most-loved fashion mags, or that she conceived and developed Fashion’s Night Out, it’s that she oversees the Council of Fashion Designer of Americas Fund, which supports emerging young designers. To win Wintour’s discerning approval is akin to being granted the keys to the fashion kingdom, and what she says absolutely goes on the pages of Vogue and beyond. So, we thought we’d take a moment to examine Wintour’s personal sartorial musings. How does the Queen of All Clothing actually dress? What can we learn from her style rules?

Last night, internet-eratti gathered in New York for the 15th Annual Webby Awards, the event honoring the biggest movers and shakers on the web. To keep things streamlined, the event has instituted a policy calling for five word acceptance speeches. My favorite of the night? Anna Wintour, who said, “Sometimes geek can be chic.” An honorable mention goes to Andrew Mason, the CEO of Groupon, who gave the wise words, “It’s short for group coupon.” And a high five to Dan Savage, who accepted the Special Achievement Award with the words “Tracy Morgan can suck my….” Keep reading »

I know a woman whose life possibly peaked when she was snapped by The Sartorialist. Me? I’m gunning to catch the eye of Bill Cunningham from The New York Times‘s Sunday Style section, who has been photographing street style since Scott Schumann and Garance Doré were but eggs in their mothers’ wombs. Bill Cunningham, who turned 80 while the documentary “Bill Cunningham New York” was being filmed, dropped out of Harvard in the late 1940s and began working as a milliner, making hats for New York City’s elite. Then a friend handed him a camera and Bill’s eye for style bloomed. Now he’s the beloved street style photographer — a cultural anthropologist, really — for the Times. As someone — perhaps Anna Wintour — says in “Bill Cunningham New York,” while everyone else who works in fashion is standing inside the tents during Fashion Week snapping pics of celebrities, Bill Cunningham is outside on the sidewalk taking photographs of the regular people. Anna Wintour was one of the speakers at Teen Vogue‘s annual “Fashion University” event for teens, which features seminars and panels on the industry and careers. What did the Vogue editor-in-chief have to say to America’s youth? She recommended everyone should screw up. Literally. She told the audience, “I worked for American Harper’s Bazaar … they fired me.
