Will Sarah Jessica Parker Take Over Vogue?

Will Sarah Jessica Parker Take Over Vogue?

The fashion world is up in arms at the rumor the Anna Wintour is considering Sarah Jessica Parker to take her place as the next editor-in-chief of Vogue. Sometimes I confuse SJP with her alter ego Carrie Bradshaw. They’re both New York fixtures and total fashionistas, which is why it would make perfect sense for SJP to succeed Anna Wintour and run the magazine. Well, it sort of would, if we ignore the fact that she has no editorial experience that I know of and that there are Vogue employees who have been with the company for decades and toiled their way up to an opportunity like that through years of hard work. Anna Wintour Actually Approved Of That WTF Kerry Washington Lucky Cover

“Anna as the artistic director was definitely aware of our cover selection and was very supportive. Anna always provides me with guidance. As editor in chief, it comes down to my decision — and Anna agreed.”

Lucky magazine editor-in-chief Eva Chen doesn’t try to pass the blame when it comes to her mag’s shockingly unrecognizable Kerry Washington cover. But she also made it clear to Women’s Wear Daily that, hey, Anna Wintour liked it!  I can’t imagine how this cover got past the most meticulous and picky person at not only at Conde Nast, but maybe in all media in general.   Was Wintour for serious or is this some kind of Jedi mind trick to make Chen look bad at her job? Anna Wintour Is Rumored To Be Courting Lena Dunham For A Vogue Cover

Anna Wintour Is Rumored To Be Courting Lena Dunham For A Vogue Cover

Lena Dunham is just about as divisive a celebrity as they come. As seemingly harmless as she is, there’s still a faction of people, young and old, who cannot stand her. Seriously, with the way some armchair critics react to Dunham, you would think she straight-up murdered someone’s grandma’s puppy. But one thing that’s inarguable, even amongst the haterz, is that since “Girls” first premiered in early 2012, Lena Dunham has been eeeeeeverywhere: she’s won Golden Globes, she’s opened the Emmys, she’s coordinated nail art with Zooey Deschanel, she’s scored a $3.7 million book deal, she’s milked a cow in a NYC street (and we still don’t know why). Throughout all this, Dunham has by and large been pigeonholed as the “average girl,” the “relatable girl,” even (and still!!) as the “fat girl.” We wonder, how would a rumored Vogue cover affect that? “No, no, no. I was just into my magazines and the drawings. I had a very strict upbringing, almost puritanical. I lived there all the way through college. I was in my grandmother’s house, and I respected that! [I] had very gay experiences, yes, I swear on my grandmother’s grave that I never slept with a single designer in my life. Never, ever desired, never was asked, never was approached, never, ever bought, in my entire career. Never. Not one. Skinny or fat. Never.”

– Vogue editor and muumuu-wearer extraordinaire Andre Leon Talley, who rejects the label “gay,” says that he’s fallen in love twice, both times with women (and neither of them Anna Wintour). As for his relationship with Wintour, Talley says “I wouldn’t have stayed at Vogue as long as I did without Anna being there. She was my biggest ally. There could not have been another way.” And also: “Ms. Wintour has had her bob since she was in her 20s. I have never seen her hair pulled back. Never. Not even at tennis.” [Vanity Fair]

Who Wore It Best: The White House Correspondents’ Dinner

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was held this past Saturday. Traditionally meant to be a dinner held for members of the press covering the administration, of late, the annual dinner has morphed into a glamorous celeb-filled kind of thing. I mean, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian went last year, guys! But seriously, the Correspondents’ Dinner is the one time of year that politicos and the press corps mingle and imbibe in a no-stress, yelling-free environment.

We’ve grouped the evening’s attendees based on the colors they wore — navy, green and red were all strong contenders along with basic black and white. And we want to know: Who do you think wore it best? Start voting after the jump! Keep reading »

  • Anna Wintour has reportedly banned a nude 40-foot sculpture of designer Vivienne Westwood from the Metropolitan Museum Of Art’s upcoming punk exhibit. Wintour said the naked, styrofoam Westwood would be “a needless distraction” in “Punk: Chaos To Couture.” [Styleite]

  • A possibly drunk Tara Reid allegedly threw a fit at an All Saints store in L.A. when the cashier wouldn’t give her a discount because of her, quote, “fame.” A rep told the New York Post that Reid usually gets discounts because she’s often photographed wearing All Saints. Well, no more! “She had to be escorted out by security,” said a source. [New York Post]

These photo of notoriously purse-lipped Anna Wintour laughing and smiling while walking around Milan are making me giddy with glee. It’s like in high school when you work so hard all year to make your stone-faced digital media teacher show any sign of emotion, and after 8 months of effort, you make a random MS Paint animation of your best friend’s leg falling off, and when you present it to the class he cracks a tiny little smile, and you’re like, “Yes! My work here is done,” and then you stop trying in class and end up getting a B-. Or was that just me? Anyway, Anna looks happy and stylish and generally awesome. My work here is done. There are some things in life that just belong together. For instance: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne. I’ve only been to Walmart once, when I accompanied my then-boyfriend to purchase a Bear Grylls-brand camping knife, but the politically conservative megastore definitely did not strike me as the sort that would have any feasible tie to liberal-leaning publishing goliath and Anna Wintour employer Condé Nast. And yet! Beauty Scoop, Wal-Mart’s 12-page editorial “shopazine,” exists, and it features original pieces from editors of familiar Condé glossies like Allure, Glamour, and Lucky. Keep reading »

“It’s a little bit of male chauvinism … It’s not just Anna — I see powerful women who really get slammed for being too forthright or running their business in a very determined way. If [former GE CEO] Jack Welch were being named as a potential ambassador, people wouldn’t be saying, ‘Oh, but hang on, Jack’s a little strict in the way he runs his companies.’”

Shelby Bryan, telecommunications pioneer, international business executive, venture capitalist (disclaimer, I just copy and pasted that straight off his Wikipedia page), and Anna Wintour‘s longtime boyfriend, doesn’t exactly confirm the rumor of his significant other’s potential ambassadorship, but he stands to defend the idea of it. I’m not surprised that Anna’s partner of 13 years appears to be intelligent, sensible, and savvy to the existence of gender inequality and double standards in the business arena. Because, you know, Nuclear Wintour does not suffer fools, and she certainly does not suffer foolish men. Just one question: does this Mr. Bryan have a son? [Racked]

  • The rumor that Anna Wintour is a candidate for a political ambassadorship in England is just that ― a rumor ― but that tiny detail certainly didn’t stop wig-wearer and professional wackjob Donald Trump from endorsing her. Live. On Fox News. Awkward. [Fashionista]
  • A new survey says that women apply approximately three times the amount of makeup during the holiday season that they do on an average day. I’m not surprised; everyone knows there’s no better time than Christmas and New Years to pile on the glitter eyeshadow. [Daily Mail]
  • Gender-bending model Andrej Pejic gets the Warhol treatment, posing as three of Andy’s favorite Factory girls (Nico, Edie Sedgwick, and Candy Darling, specifically) for Du Jour magazine. Says former Interview editor and Warhol friend Glenn O’Brien, “Andy would have been fascinated by Andrej.” We’re inclined to agree. [Refinery29]
