Some Jerk Left Five Abandoned Kittens Zipped In A Suitcase On The Street

Abandoned Cat

Today in miserable situations: five abandon kittens zipped inside a suitcase were discovered in Cardiff, Wales. A passerby happened to see the suitcase on a back street and opened it, only to find the nine-week-old kitties peering up from inside. One of them was stuck in the bag’s zipper, another kitty had a sore eye, and all of them had fleas, but they’re lucky to have been found otherwise healthy. The three male and two female cats are now in the care of the animal organization RSPCA, and will likely be put up for adoption shortly. According to the Daily Mail, Rachel Chapman of the RSPCA said “They are lovely kittens …We would rather the person called us first instead of just being irresponsible and abandoning their pets.” She also said the kittens would be available for placement in new homes if their owners don’t come forward. It’s hard for me to imagine that this was an accident (stranger things have happened, I guess) and I sincerely hope that doesn’t mean they intend to ever place the kitties back in the care of whatever colossal asshole got bored of them and dumped them on the street. I think, rather, that the RSPCA is looking for more information to sufficiently punish the creep. It’s one thing to throw helpless kitties on the street when they could be safely dropped off at a shelter, but it’s quite another to leave them trapped in a suitcase with no way to fend for themselves. Ugh, what is wrong with people? If you’re in Cardiff and have any information to share about the kitties or their owner, you can give the RSPCA a call at 0300 1234 999. [Daily Mail UK]

Puppy
Is There Anything Better?

Maybe you’re having a bad day. Perhaps you’re super hungover, just got fired, or can’t make the rent. No matter what’s eating at you right now, I can guarantee that this compilation of puppies gleefully and mindlessly tumbling down hills will instantly cheer you up at least a little. It’s a good thing pups are 90 percent fluff and fat rolls. [Tastefully Offensive]

Cat Hamster Wheels Are A Thing Now

Cat Hamster Wheel
Yes, Really

So many people love the bizarre idea of watching their cat run manically on a hamster wheel that a Kickstarter campaign for exactly that has raised over 18 times its goal. Over $189,000 has been raised for the “One Fast Cat” exercise wheel. Indoor cats who don’t need to hunt to survive struggle with a lot of pent-up energy, and while running on a little wheel looks doofier than getting exercise in the great outdoors, it’s a good way to stave off boredom and cat depression (yes, that exists). According to creator Sean Farley’s comments on the Kickstarter page, “There are many ways to keep your cat lively, giving them access to energetic companions, making a play session part of their day, and/or offering them tempting exercise equipment for use when you’re not at home…that’s why we came up with ‘One Fast Cat’ cat wheel.” Bored kitties rough up your house by using your furniture as a scratching post, making messes, and refusing to use their litter box. What I don’t get is what motivates the cats to keep running once they start. Do you have to hang a treat in front of the wheel? All I know is watching the footage of that cat running in circles is giving me all the LOLs. [TIME]

Cat Can’t Be Bothered With The Outdoors, Hides In A Stranger’s Purse

Cat In Purse
Nope

It’s no secret that most cats don’t like to be walked, and this kitty made that extra clear on his first adventure outside by trying to hide in a random woman’s purse while still on his leash. I’m pretty sure I look the exact same way most Monday mornings. [Laughing Squid]

RIP Society: Black Cats Are Being Abandoned Because They Don’t Show Up In Selfies

black cat

According to the RSPCA, a British animal charity, abandoning animals that aren’t photogenic has become “a national problem” in the U.K. Of the 1,000 cats currently living in RSPCA shelter, 70 percent are black. Between 2007 and 2013, there was a 65 percent increase in the number of black cats taken in at the Blue Cross animal charity. “Black animals tend not to photograph as well as other cats with more distinctive markings,” they told The Telegraph. Sadly, it seems that a pet’s ability to take a good selfie is worth a lot more to some people these days than how much love they can give. Many pet owners apparently complained when dropping the cats off at the shelter that they didn’t show up well in pictures, and prospective owners at the shelter requested to meet cats that were any color other than black. Meanwhile, orange and white cats, who show up better on camera, are being adopted left and right. This also makes it tough for the RSPCA to advertise the black cats in photos on their website. Even though these kitties were once thought of as bad luck, many Britons believe they bring the opposite, but their lack of photo cred seems to leave them in the dust. Come on animal lovers, we’re better than this! [CosmopolitanTelegraph UK] [Image via Shutterstock]
