Amy Adams To Star In A Janis Joplin Biopic? Not So Fast.

Many a starlet has dreamed of playing Janis Joplin in a big screen biopic. Over the past 10 years, Lili Taylor, Pink, and Zooey Deschanel have all been one-time picks for the role by producer Peter Newman, who secured the rights to Joplin’s biggest songs, as well as the life rights to her friends and family members for a movie called “The Gospel According to Janis.” But, alas, the film never came to fruition. Ditto for a Joplin movie called “Piece of My Heart,” in which Renee Zellweger was supposed to play the lead role in 2003. And the same fate awaited “Get It While You Can,” a Joplin biopic that was going to be directed by Catherine Hardwicke of “Twilight” fame and was set to star Reese Witherspoon. But now, this third incarnation of the idea is alive and running again—this time with Amy Adams in the lead and Fernando Meirelles, the dude behind “City of God,” in the director’s chair. So, will this flick, uh, actually happen? We’ll have to wait and see. But with any luck, Amy will be breaking out the bell bottoms and circular sunglasses. [EW] Keep reading »

Do You Put Mascara On Your Lower Lashes?

What are your thoughts on mascara and lower lashes? We know that Amy Adams, above, is a fan of the stand-out makeup move—or maybe it’s just that her makeup artist is, of course. Personally, I’m not a fan—it feels a little too overdone, like my lower lashes are in a look-at-me competition with my upper ones. That and the very small fact that I can never apply it without globs of mascara and clumps (and having to separate my individual lashes one by one with a safety pin—sorry, eyeballs!). But I’ve been working on my technique and have found three tricks that help:

Frisky Q&A: “Julie & Julia” Author, Julie Powell, Talks About Meat, Monogamy And Amy Adams

After the success of her first memoir, Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen, which later became a film starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, I couldn’t help but imagine author Julie Powell living happily ever after with her perfect pot roasts and marriage. If you chuckled at her squeamishness while trying to boil a lobster, then you never would have envisioned her with a wide-brimmed hat holding a meat cleaver or watching the slaughter of a pig. And you certainly wouldn’t have expected to find her crawling across the floor of her lover’s bedroom with bites and bruises all over her body. In her new memoir, Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession, Julie reveals a darker, more raw side of herself as she hacks, rips, pulls, and prods her way to becoming a butcher. When her own life and marriage are fraught with uncertainty, she finds comfort in the authority of the knife. What is revealed on the page is a bloody trail of introspection—she cuts deeper than ever before to reveal flesh, heart, and bones as she struggles to get to the marrow of her desires. It’s a tasty and satisfying recipe for a delicious tale.

After the jump, Julie Powell talks with The Frisky. Keep reading »

Curly Or Straight? Tell Us Which You Prefer & Win Hair Products, Too

Decisions, decisions. We love how voluptuous and sexy curls look (a la Amy Adams, here at the New York premiere of “Julie and Julia“), but we’re also suckers for slick, straight hair. For these particular events, her hair guru, Matrix celeb stylist Mark Townsend, made the style decisions above based on the clothes and um, just a “feeling.” For the NYC event, he wanted her hair to look modern and glamorous to match her ritzy Carolina Herrera gown. “I’ve been very inspired lately by hairstyles from the ’80s with lots of volume,” he said. But for the more slick look in LA, he was inspired by “beauty shots from the ’80s that I’ve collected over the years, very Carol Alt,” he says, referring to the supermodel who reigned supreme back in the day.

We’re torn. Which do you prefer?

Oh, and P.S. We just happen to have a few bottles of the Biolage Shine Endure Spritz that Mark used on Amy laying around the office. It’s good for shine, protection and both straight and curly hair. It costs about $14 in stores, but we’re willing to part with three bottles for our favorite comments regarding woman’s greatest mystery, that very serious conundrum: curly or straight?
