She wants to be on top! Kiara Belen placed runner-up on Cycle 19 of “America’s Next Top Model,” the college edition. The gorgeous, statuesque former UC Irvine basketball player lost to cornsilk-blonde Laura James, the daughter of “Dynasty” actor John James, in an extremely close final panel. But as pained as I felt watching Kiara take second place, I was also pretty sure this young woman would be OK. From the very first episode, Kiara’s determination to get past her crappy upbringing and her confidence in herself were truly inspiring.
Kiara is busy getting her modeling career off the ground (she’s already worked with Janice Dickinson — not too shabby!), but she was kind enough to answer some of our questions over email about the luscious Rob Evans, kooky competitor Victoria, and Tyra’s best modeling advice.

When I heard that Kristin, the super-genetically blessed blonde girl on this cycle of “America’s Next Top Model,” was only 19, I felt relieved. At least she’s young enough that she still has time to shake that whole “I think I’m Regina George in ‘Mean Girls’” thing.
On Friday’s episode of “ANTM,” Kristin spent the whole episode, as usual, complaining about the other girls instead of focusing on her smize and tooch. And yet when she ended up in the bottom two, Kristin threw a temper tantrum backstage, lashed out at Kiara and Leila for “gloating” over their high scores and repeatedly called sweet little Leila a “bitch.”
Find out who went home — i.e. SPOILER! — after the jump… Keep reading »
Every reality show competition has its oddball and Victoria on “America’s Next Top Model” fits it to a ‘T.’ She was homeschooled, attends online schooling at uber-religious Liberty University, and when she “gets in character” she over-acts during all her photoshoots … like in the most recent episode when she spat at the photographer. Victoria also just so happens to be the girl I want to win; she takes some of the best pictures, and easily has the best work ethic (which is half the battle).
Over the past several episodes of “ANTM,” the other girls have been closing in on Victoria. It started with snotty comments about Victoria being weird — which, sure, she is. Then it exacerbated in the episode before last when, at judging, the girls told Tyra Banks that they think Victoria isn’t eating enough — which, if we can go off the way producers have edited the show, is probably also true. Victoria defended herself and said she doesn’t have an eating disorder, she’s just extremely anxious about the competition and being away from her mom for the first time — which, again, is probably true. Tyra then pronounced she deeply cares about the health and well-being of the girls on her show, threatened that if Victoria restricts her eating she’s out of the competition, and vowed to keep an eye on her.
Then, on Friday night’s episode, all of this hoopla went even further: the remaining girls in the house confronted Victoria, telling her they don’t think she’s stable enough to continue with the competition. Keep reading »
Well, we know what Jael Strauss has been up to since appearing on Cycle 8 of “America’s Next Top Model” because we saw her recent meth intervention on the “Dr. Phil” show. Very sad. Not quite as sad but still sad: posing for a photo spread in Vogue Knitting Magazine. What!? A high-end knitting magazine exists? Apparently, it does. And apparently that’s where forgotten “ANTM” contestants go after they leave the show. Here’s Cycle 11 winner McKey Sullivan on the cover. She’s giving some face in that pink beret. As Tyra would say, “She’s wearing the hat, it’s not wearing her.” Click through to see more “ANTM” models who have graced the pages of Vogue Knitting. [Buzzfeed]
We were totally shocked when we saw former “America’s Next Top Model” contest Jael Strauss — who’d appeared on Cycle 8 of the series — would be appearing on a “Dr. Phil” episode devoted to her drug abuse. Since appearing on the series six years ago, Jael’s life has taken a severely downward slide. She’s been addicted to meth, and her family begs her to get help during a harrowing Dr. Phil intervention. Jael hardly looks like the beautiful girl she was just six short years ago — with pockmarked skin and bleached blond locks, she appears much older and worn out than most other 28-year-olds.
We wish her the best and hope that Thursday’s episode of “Dr. Phil” gets her the help she needs. Jael is hardly the only reality TV star to slide into addiction — let’s review…
Every competition reality show always has one looney bird who keeps you watching just to see what they do next. On cycle 19 of “America’s Next Top Model,” that looney bird is a Victoria. Victoria has the same mile-long legs as the other competitors, plus gorgeous eyes and a head of beautiful, long brown hair. But as soon as she opens her mouth, she’s a little … odd.
Victoria is an online student at the uber-Christian college Liberty University, whose appearance on the show is literally her first-ever socialization with girls her own age. She has a really, really, really close relationship with her mother — so close, in fact, that she doesn’t ever want a boyfriend because no man will ever fulfill her needs as much as her mom does. (That’s a direct quote.) Not surprisingly, Victoria has been home-schooled by Mommie Dearest since age nine … which means that dropping Victoria into the “Top Model” sorority house is like throwing raw meat to a pack of wolves.
But with her American flag hair bows and endearing social awkwardness, Victoria is the girl I’m most rooting for on “Top Model” this season. She’s super-loopy, yes, but she’s gorgeous, dedicated, hard-working, and also totally genuine and sweet. My favorite loopy Victoria moments, after the jump! Keep reading »
It was the battle of the blondes (and battle of the U.K. versus U.S.) on the season finale of “America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion” on Wednesday.
Some highlights: American Laura LaFrate had a panic attack after shooting her ad for CoverGirl, and she was taken to the hospital. However, she recovered and got herself back into the game. Brit Sophie Sumner did a great job recording her dialogue for the CoverGirl commercial – without requiring medical attention.
The models posed for Vogue Italia, and the competition was fierce. They finished off with a runway show for Forever 21 and had just 90 seconds for wardrobe changes. It was a tight race up until the very end.
Sophie, who also made it to the final two on “Britain’s Top Model,” was crowned the winner.

There’s been a lot of shake ups in Tyra Banks’ “Top Model” world of late. As she struggles to make “ANTM” relevant and engaging in its zillionth “cycle,” Ty-Ty decided to mix up the judging panel by getting rid of judging mainstay (“Noted Fashion Photographer”) Nigel Barker and model coach/shoot producer Jay Manuel (that’s Mr. Jay, if you’re confused). Tyra has kept Kelly Cutrone (who started last season) and recently plucked up model Rob Evans. And her latest hire? Blogger and fashion week regular Bryanboy.
After the jump, five things you should know about the new face on “ANTM”‘s judging panel.

Tyra Banks shocked everyone when she fired Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and Jay Alexander from”America’s Next Top Model” — but now, she’s picked her replacements.
While they’re not exactly Britney Spears-level names, The CW has confirmed fashion publicist-turned-reality star Kelly Cutrone, male model Rob Evans and stylist Johnny Wujek will be joining the show. Read more …
Congratulations are in order for “America’s Next Top Model: All Stars” contestant Angelea Preston!
“I’m very excited about things that have been happening in my life recently, like with my marriage and my baby and my career,” Preston, 25, tells Us Weekly about her baby boy on-the-way. “I feel very blessed.”
While enjoying some time at home in Buffalo, New York “around Christmastime,” Preston discovered she was pregnant with boyfriend Eric Brown’s baby. “Eric and I have dated for about two years,” she says. “Eric was the only person that I did tell right away. . . but everyone else I kept in the dark for a while about it.”
After moving to Los Angeles to pursue modeling, Brown called her up to propose marriage. Read more …
