“Colbert Report” host Stephen Colbert knows probably better than anyone that in order to succeed you have to work with the best. That’s why on his show Wednesday night he said goodbye to his latest crop of interns, and brought on a new, shall we say, more qualified set: the gold medal-winning women’s gymnastic team. That’s right: Gabby, McKayla, Kyla, Aly and Jordyn — along with Aly’s very excitable mom — all made an appearance. And they were tasked with the very important job of making sure Stephen had his pen. You know how Stephen can get about his pens. [Comedy Central]
Sadly — well, for me at least, because I love it – today was the last day of gymnastics events at the 2012 Olympics in London. In addition to the men’s parallel bars final, the women competed in the finals for floor and beam; all three events will air tonight in the U.S. but if you just can’t wait until then, we have a whole mess of awesome photos from the women’s events. But be warned: we will reveal at least some of the winners on the final slide of the post!
Hey! The women’s gymnastics all-around competition was today, but it’s not airing on TV until tonight and you could have only watched it live online if you have a workplace/computer setup/cable provider that allows for such things. So I’m sitting here, knowing who won what and I want to write about it because tomorrow frickin’ morning seems awfully late, but I know people are sensitive about spoilers, but the internet has basically made it impossible not to have every aspect of the Olympics spoiled so far. So what do I do? I have decided I will put the information after the jump. Pictured are Gabrielle Douglas and Aly Raisman, the two gymnasts competing for Team USA. Proceed at your own risk. We are a littttttle obsessed with Team USA’s women’s gymnastics team so we kept one eye on the live-stream of the team finals competition today (which airs tonight on NBC). Click through to see Gabby, McKayla, Jordyn, Kyla, and Aly competing — but be warned: we reveal whether they won any medals at the end!
On Sunday, U.S. gymnast Aly Raisman gave such an amazing performance on the uneven bars that she scored one of two spots competing for the all-around medal. But it’s her parents that stole the spotlight. Watch Ricky and Lynn Raisman contort themselves as they cheer their daughter on from the stands.
These are the five female athletes picked to compete on behalf of Team USA in gymnastics at this summer’s London Olympics. Having spent the week watching these young ladies practice and compete at Olympic trials in San Jose, I am elated that they made the cut. Find out a little more about Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, Jordyn Wieber, and Kyla Ross in the slideshow above!
