We adore Shailene Woodley and are fascinated with her, um, unconventional ideas about not owning a cell phone and foraging for berries to eat. Girlfriend is very into growing her own organic foods and forgoing products with chemicals. “It’s an entire lifestyle,” Woodley has said. “It’s appealing to my soul.”
But we forgot about another Hollywood actress who has been in this hippie woo-woo game a lot longer: Alicia Silverstone! How could we have forgotten she thinks babies should go diaper-free? Or how she chews up her food and spits it in son’s mouth (“kiss-feeding”)? Alicia has long been promoting the benefits of her vegan/“kind” lifestyle, which she wrote a diet/beauty book about in 2009. Now, Alicia is the author of a new book called The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide To Supercharged Fertility, A Radiant Pregnancy, A Sweeter Birth, And A Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning.
The Daily Beast got their hands on a copy and plowed through Alicia’s tips on sex, “chichi” (that’s your vagina) care, and maintaining your “baby house.” It’s high time (no pun intended) these two face off in the battle for the ultimate hippie starlet … and we shall call it Quinoarmageddon:

urns out Jaden Smith doesn’t really want to be emancipated from his parents—but these 10 child stars, rounded up by the Huffington Post, did:
- Drew Barrymore petitioned for emancipation in 1991, when she was 15, in order to skirt child labor laws that were restricting the hours she could work.
- Alicia Silverstone did the same thing, at the same age, so she could film The Crush in 1993.
- Michelle Williams was also emancipated at age 15, but she later said she was “stupid” to live on her own: “I didn’t know what I was taking on.” Read more on Newser…
The trailer for “Vamps,” Amy Heckerling’s first movie with Alicia Silverstone since “Clueless,” is here — and it looks really funny. It stars Silverstone and Krysten Ritter as two vampires looking for love in all the wrong places. And the dude who plays Matthew Crawley on “Downton Abbey” plays Ritter’s love interest. I. Can’t. Wait!
Alicia Silverstone a thing of the past? As if! The actress, best known for her roles in “Clueless” and a couple of epic Aerosmith videos, sat down for an interview with director Amy Heckerling in the latest issue of Bullett magazine. Heckerling directed Silverstone in “Clueless” and the two reminisced about the good ol’ days (ahh, the 1990s!) and what Silverstone would have done differently following her rise to stardom. But maybe any regrets she has will fade away if her latest effort with Heckerling, the upcoming film “Vamps,” has critics and audiences totally buggin’. Let’s hope! See the full shoot above and read the interview at the link! [Bullett]
Hey, have you guys heard of “kiss-feeding”? I don’t have a kid so I always feel “WTF?!” when I hear about, um, interesting parenting methods and my response to kiss-feeding was definitely “WTF?!” Allow me to explain: kiss-feeding is where the parent chews up food and then spits it in the baby’s mouth, like a mother bird would to her lil’ chick. Alicia Silverstone is a kiss-feeder and she posted a video of her feeding her 11-month-old son Bear this way on her health food site TheKindLife.com. Some people are freaking out about it; I wouldn’t say that I am freaking out, but I guess I’m sort of, like, why? I get that without a full-set of teeth, Bear can’t chew solids, but isn’t that what Gerber’s etc. or — in the case of parents who make their own baby food — blenders are for? I’m pretty sure Alicia Silverstone can afford a blender. Anyway, kiss-feeding seems like something done in ye olden times, before blenders were invented. I really don’t want to be judge-y, so what say you? [Fox News]
“Wearing a pregnancy suit was so much fun. I loved the feeling of pretending to be pregnant and having little arms and legs and this big belly. I’ve been wanting to have a baby since I was 2 years old—I’m destined to be a mother. I can’t wait to be pregnant.”

After oodles of Dracula adaptations, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Twilight,” “True Blood,” “Daywalkers,” and “The Vampire’s Assistant,” I thought I’d let out a blood-curdling scream if I heard about another vampire movie. But amazingly there’s a new entry in the bloodsuckers category that I’m pretty excited about. The flick is called “Vamps,” and it starts filming in April. What’s so buzzworthy about it? It will be directed by Amy Heckerling, the woman behind “Clueless,” which, 15 years later, never fails to crack me up when I catch it on cable. As if (get it?) that weren’t enough, guess who’s starring? None other than Alicia Silverstone, whose comeback we’ve been anxiously awaiting for years. This will be the first time the dynamic duo has teamed up since their 1995 breakout. Keep reading »
Alicia Silverstone, potentially Hollywood’s most devout vegan, has a new book out about her nutritional vision called The Kind Diet. Fortunately, you don’t have to become a full-on kale-munching vegan to adopt Silverstone’s doctrine. The plant-based regime accommodates dieters of three levels, where at the lowest, you “flirt” with the idea of veganism by making a few key changes in your diet, and at the highest, the “superheroes” go all macrobiotic. (Corny!)
While weight loss is a main focus, Silverstone claims that her diet also has some interesting added perks. Keep reading »
