Alexa Chung usually nails it sartorially — after all, she’s known for her quirky style — but even our finest dressers cop to a miss from time to time. The combination of hot-off-the-runway Christopher Kane dress, buttoned-up white shirt with metallic embellishments, and tasseled loafer-esque pumps is certainly true to her eccentric, English boy-meets-Gallic girl aesthetic, and I really like each individual piece, but this incohesive look just isn’t doing it for me. Are you into the kooky mix of elements, or have you seen better on Alexa?
Alexa Chung’s talent, the skill responsible for her ascent to fame, is dressing extraordinary well, and does she ever. Though it’s tempting to explain it away as such, it’s not just that everything looks good on her beanpole figure — she really knows how to put a look together using a diverse mix of high and low (admittedly, more high these days), and she’s never afraid to go out on a limb. Surely Alexa does have genetics to thank as well as her own knack for dressing, but she’s so low-key and self-effacing that I can’t help but like her in a way that I can’t muster for most of our famous-for-next-to-nothing celebs. That said, I would do anything for her wardrobe. Anything, I tell you. This look is the consummate example of Alexa’s off-duty British cool — a super-short fitted skirt, edgy boots with socks peeking out, and a boyish pullover are perfectly suited to pretty much anywhere you may go. You know what I always say: let’s steal it, shall we? Keep reading »
Alexa Chung is known for her quirky sense of style, and this outfit, which she wore to host the launch of the Annual British Designers Collective, was totally on point. She’s playing with a lot of trends at once but it doesn’t feel overpowering because she keeps the look very simple: message sweater, floral skirt, patent loafers, and some seriously springy pastel nail polish. Wanna steal the look for yourself? We’ve got all the pieces (for 80 bucks or less) after the jump… Keep reading »
Everything we learn about model/TV presenter/Madewell designer Alexa Chung just makes us like her more. Take the story she told Jimmy Fallon about her DJ skills. Alexa admitted that she doesn’t so much DJ as burn a couple of CDs with her favorite songs and then pretend to be confidently mixing the songs. And if that fails, she just pretends to walk down an imaginary set of stairs. [Fashionista]
Last night, the British celebrated their own particular brand of style with the British Fashion Awards, honoring the best in designing and fashion talent from around England. Women swept the awards, winning top honors for best fashion and accessories designers — Victoria Beckham and Charlotte Dellal, respectively — while Alexander McQueen head Sarah Burton took home the award for fashion designer of the year. Alexa Chung was crowned most stylish (what is this, high school?) for the second year in a row, beating out both Kates — Middleton and Moss — and Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane and Kim Jones took home additional awards.
But what you really want to know is: what did they wear? After the jump, some of the best and worst to grace the fashion red carpet.
“Have fun. Don’t take anything too seriously. Try a bit of irony now and again. Don’t wear anything too tight. Borrow things from your brother, boyfriend or father’s wardrobe. And wear stupid shoes!”
