How To Get Agyness’ Batcrackers Crazy Lash Look

Splash News

My my, the fashion stars certainly decided to shine bright at the recent ACE Awards. No one could really compete with Lady Gaga’s interesting ensemble, but supermodel-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn came close with her edgy beauty look. Not only did she rock the bowl cut that’s so chic right now, we also got the scoop from the lady behind her accompanying fine feathered friends. Makeup artist Frances Hathaway applied Shu Uemura’s Black Velvet Feather False Eyelashes to her lower lids. “Agyness is a cutting edge girl,” said Hathaway. “I needed a fashion-forward lash with an architectural influence.” Did she ever! However, she cautions that one must exercise restraint in such situations: “When making such a big statement, keep it simple; just make one lash.” After all, you wouldn’t want to go overboard.

We Love Agyness Deyn’s Michael Jackson Tribute

Agy as MJ

Agyness Deyn does her best Michael Jackson impression for this fun fashion editorial in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The model wears some of MJ’s most iconic gear and accessories: the sequined jacket, military-style blazer, and sparkly gloves. Her sidekick is a monkey, a wink to Michael’s beloved chimp, Bubbles. The six-page spread was photographed by Terry Richardson. For subscribers only, Deyn graces the cover in a “Thriller”-themed pose. Newsstand covers feature actress Leighton Meester. The magazine hits stands August 18th. [Daily Mail]

Agyness Deyn: Dim-Witted Or A Publicity Genius?

Agyness Deyn

Today’s New York Times Style section covers the rise and possible bail out of It Girl fashion model Agyness Deyn. Will she pursue acting? Singing? Will she leave modeling altogether? Well, you won’t get any straight (or even vaguely specific) answers from her, not even on the more benign questions. (It seems she’s gone to the Kelly Bensimon school of question answering—talk in circles about unrelated topics and hope the interviewer doesn’t notice!) But, as the NYT reporter suggests, does she actually have nothing going on upstairs, or is it just a way to fend off a line of questioning, remain elusive and thus intriguing to most everyone? You decide. Some Agy gems, after the jump!

Kate Moss And Agyness Deyn: All (Paper) Dolled Up

Kate Moss And Agyness Deyn Paper Dolls

I really enjoyed playing with paper dolls when I was younger. Didn’t you? Well if not, you can make up for the lost opportunity with today’s more fashionable paper dolls. London-based artist I Love Mel has created Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn paper dolls that are sure to recapture your childhood, if you dare to open the packaging. Each of the dolls comes with fashions that the supermodels would actually wear—flannel for Agy and stripes and vests for Kate. If you’d like to take more creative license, there’s also the Colour Me Good Kate Moss coloring book. See the Agyness paper doll after the jump [I Love Mel via Refinery 29]

Celebrities Are Hoarding All The Best Jobs

In this economy, it’s good to have a backup plan in case you lose your job. At least this seems to be the career advice young actresses and models are being fed, because they’re adding hyphenates to their job titles faster than Bravo can add cities to its “Real Housewives” franchise. But not all multi-hypenates are created equal (even if a record label thinks it can find the next big thing by posting an ad on Craigslist in search of models who can sing). While some are talented enough to hold down three jobs at a time, others might want to select just one.

Slideshow: Models, Models, Models At The Met Ball

A small army of models showed up last night for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, celebrating the spring 2009 exhibition, “The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion.” There were supermodels (Kate, Iman), new girls (Agyness, Jessica), model-moguls (Heidi, Tyra).

You can’t have a party—let alone a party about models—without Kate Moss. Marc Jacobs and Moss are high fashion’s prom king and queen. Marc is slick in a satin bowtie, while Kate’s got her Edie Beale on with that turban. In head to toe gold, she looks like an Oscar statue, don’t you think?

Where Are All The Style Icons At?!

Twentysomething Generation Lacks A Style Icon

Liz Jones, a columnist for the U.K.‘s Daily Mail thinks our generation has a problem—we don’t have any style icons! Sure, we’ve got women like Michelle Obama and Kate Moss to look to for style inspiration, but, according to Jones, not one woman in the twentysomething age bracket really deserves the title of “Style Icon.” And she’s got an extra special bone to pick with those who claim model Agyness Deyn DOES.

“Maybe I am old and jaded, but I don’t think she has a clue about style at all. I hate that this messy, un-put together look is deemed somehow ‘London’. That Agy has now joined a long line of cutting edge Brits (Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse and the lamentable Peaches Geldof) who demonstrate how non-conformist they are by dressing like tramps. But what is even more galling is that Agy and her ilk have created so many young female doppelgangers. If I see another twentysomething in black cutoff tights under a mini-skirt worn with ballet flats, I will want to kill myself.”

Irregular Beauty Is Real Beauty

Computer Program Quantifies Beauty

However, four scientists from Tel Aviv University think differently. They recently unveiled a new computer program that contains a “beautification engine,” which uses a mathematical formula to alter a face in a photograph to a theoretically more attractive version. According to the programmers, the program maintains an “unmistakable similarity” to the original. The software program is based on the responses of 68 German and Israeli men and women, age 25 to 40, who viewed photographs of white female and male faces and picked the most attractive ones. With this data and an algorithm involving 234 measurements between facial features, like the distance between eyes, scientists trained the computer to determine which distances were the most attractive for each individual face and choose the ideal closest to the original face. They have not developed a program that will be a “beauty estimator” for nonwhite racial and ethnic groups.

Trends: Are Girls Jumping Off Buildings The New Black?

After watching this new Rhapsody ad and seeing this recent fashion layout for POP magazine, starring model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn and shot by Ryan McGinley, I couldn’t help but wonder if women jumping off buildings is the new, new thing in pop-culture imagery. In late June, model Ruslana Korshunova, in an apparent suicide, fell from the ninth-floor balcony of her New York City apartment. What do you think is going on here?

Fashion Week: Models Who Do More

Alek Wek

During Fashion Week it’s easy to forget some of the pretty ladies walking down the runway do more than just act as coat hangers for fabulously over-priced garments. That’s why our girls at Glam put together this list of models who do more.

The (oft over-used) term supermodel gets tossed around a lot. But whether or not these catwalk queens have been officially coined with that status, they’re all super in our eyes. Somewhere between strutting down the catwalk in New York and Paris, and shooting high-fashion spreads at some exotic locale in the South Pacific, these beauties have also found time to become social activists, authors, and aspiring actresses–proving that they’re much more than just a pretty face.

The Writer: Alek Wek—Discovered at an outdoor market in London, Alek Wek’s strikingly unconventional look can be found grazing the catwalks of leading designers across the globe. But what has remained undiscovered, is her unconventional upbringing in the south of Sudan. Published in 2007, Wek released the autobiography, Alek, which probes into those youthful years: the bold escape from a home torn by civil-war and ultimate climb to stardom.

Girl Crush Goes A Little Limp: Agyness Deyn

I’ve had a thing for the model Agyness Deyn for a while now, ever since she got that haircut, started wearing a hat like Andie in Pretty In Pink, and went out on the town in this party dress. But I was worried when I read she would be recording a song with indie band Five O’Clock Heroes, and unless this tune requires more than five listenings to grow on you, I was right to be concerned. It is the same thing over and over. And her voice is annoying. Not Kate Bush like at all, Perez.
