Isaac Toveg used to live next door to DJ AM, also known as Adam Goldstein. And Toveg claims that when he went outside, he’d often find a “gaseous foul odor and/or smell” coming from DJ AM’s yard. Toveg says that along with the horrible smell, he would have trouble breathing and would get sick to his stomach, and was diagnosed with helicobacter pylori. More recently, it was discovered that there was a broken sewer pipe on DJ AM’s property. Keep reading »
It was tragic when DJ AM
, aka Adam Goldstein, died of a drug overdose in late August, relapsing after more than 11 years of sobriety. One of the horrible wrinkles in the story was that he’d recently filmed a TV series called “Gone Too Far” for MTV, an “Intervention
“-style show where he helped addicts down the path to recovery. After a lot of consideration, MTV has decided to air the show after all, starting next Monday at 10 p.m. “Adam felt strongly that by doing this series, he could help other addicts who were at a crisis point to get sober,” his family said in an MTV statement about the decision. “It is our hope that through airing the show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others.” Check out the final interview Goldstein did about the show, above. Get ready to choke up when he says, “Part of me is like who am I—I’m a DJ—but I have to remember this person is going to die and their family has been allowing this to happen.” [ABC News
What do you think—does Goldstein’s death add a whole ‘nother level of poignancy to the show or is airing the show terribly morbid?

We’re very sad over the news that DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his apartment this weekend. The New York Police Department has released new details on what went down—Goldstein was supposed to be heading to Las Vegas to DJ a party, only he never made it to the flight. Two friends that were supposed to travel with him called the police when they still couldn’t reach him 16 hours later. The police went to his apartment and busted down the door. They found him in bed, in sweatpants—next to bottles of prescription pills and a crack pipe, which is extremely sad because he’d been sober for more than a decade and had just wrapped an MTV show called “Gone Too Far” where he helped inspire drug addicts to overcome their addictions. See an interview he did about the show above. [People
We aren’t the only ones sad about his death. DJ AM used to date Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore, and was a fixture on the celebrity party circuit. Here’s what people of note are saying about his death. Keep reading »
Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, one of Hollywood’s (and the country’s) most loved DJs, was found dead in his New York apartment yesterday. He was 36. Almost one year ago, Goldstein and musician Travis Barker survived a fatal plane crash in South Carolina, in which they both received severe burns. Goldstein was also a recovering drug addict, having developed an addiction to crack cocaine in his 20s. Though he had been sober for the past nine years — and had recently finished filming an MTV reality show about addiction — Goldstein’s body was allegedly found next to bottles of prescription drugs and other drug paraphernalia, including a pipe commonly used to smoke crack. Friends say he had been dealing with the lingering emotional trauma of his near-death experience last year. Goldstein’s last Twitter update, from Tuesday, quoted Grand Master Flash, saying, “New York, New York. Big city of dreams, but everything in New York ain’t always what it seems.” [NY Post] Keep reading »
This is some sad news. DJ A.M. (real name: Adam Goldstein), best known as Nicole Richie’s ex-fiance, and Travis Barker, of the band Blink-182 were involved in a very serious plane crash early this morning in South Carolina. Both are being treated for serious burns, but are alive. Unfortunately, four others in the private jet were not as lucky, and were killed with the plane crashed and caught fire. One of those killed was Chris Baker, Barker’s assistant.
The group was flying on the private jet in an effort to get back to California quickly after Goldstein and Barker played a show because Baker had just found out his wife had gone into labor. Barker promised to get him home as quickly as possible to be with her — freaking tragic. The two pilots, as well as Barker’s bodyguard, were also killed. Barker and Goldstein are being treated for their burn injuries and are in critical, but stable condition. [DListed]
UPDATE: Apparently the note above about Chris Baker’s wife being in labor is total poppycock. Keep reading »
