As much as I’m thrilled for Natalie Portman, Benjamin Millepied, and their gorgeous Big Serious (Ginger) Baby Aleph, the celebration must come with a certain gravitas because one of Hollywood’s loveliest ladies is officially off the market. I hope that motherhood and married life do not translate into the diminishing of Natalie’s public presence, because she’s been one of my absolute favorite red carpet regulars since I was, like, 14 and loved “Garden State” like every other wannabe manic pixie dream girl. (I know now that I am just regular manic.) Recent paparazzi photos of Natalie in her naturally curly-haired, bootleg jeans-wearing state, coupled with this morning’s news, stoked a certain anxiety in me that I had lost my dear friend (this is getting weird) to some kind of million-legged insect.
Fear no more: two of Natalie’s latest ads for Dior came through today, and girlfriend mama still got it! (Sorry, weird again.) Not only is she the Dior Cherie perfume girl as she has been for the past two years, but she’s also the (flawless, might I add) face of the brand’s new makeup range, Diorskin Nude. Now this is one campaign that could make me shell out $50 for a foundation … but I’m easily swayed. In a word: obsessed. Natalie just kills me with pretty. Click through for the second image, and if you’d please excuse me, I’m off to snip myself a set of bangs. [Celebitchy] Keep reading »
The reception of Kristen Stewart’s fashion presence mimics that of her reception on-screen: people who like her really love her, warts and all, and those who don’t just… don’t. I tolerate her, even like her a little bit, but even so it has to be said that she’s certainly no Charlize, who’s a natural both at her craft and, you know, wearing beautiful, often heavy clothes without looking like she might freak out or bite straight through her lower lip. Kristen’s high-fashion ascent has Nicolas Ghesquière to thank — the designer and creative director of the house of Balenciaga took a particular pet liking to Stewart, crafting her into a sartorial sometimes-star against all odds (and by odds, I mean Converse and hoodies). Ghesquière approached the actress in January after years of collaborating and cast her as the face of an untitled forthcoming fragrance. Keep reading »
Most ads for luxury goods star one of many generically beautiful it girls of the moment, but Louis Vuitton’s Core Values campaign steers in a less likely direction by featuring exceptional celebrities recognized for much more than aesthetics. For the latest installment in the series, the French high-fashion house tapped legendary heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali. When one thinks “Louis Vuitton,” boxing is far from the first thing that springs to mind, but considering past stars of the campaign include Bono, Francis Ford Coppola, Sean Connery, and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, the brand certainly doesn’t restrict itself to a certain type of image. Ali’s ad, which shows his grandson alongside him in boxing gloves, will appear in magazines beginning June 15. [Vogue UK]
If there is one thing in this life that I know for absolute certain, it’s that everything is better with cats (if you disagree, I don’t want to hear it; your argument is moot). I adore cats, and I also adore fashion, so when the two unite — which they often do — I’m in heaven. But what happens when they don’t come together? Well, Fashionista has the right idea: you put them together! Much to my gratification, my fave fashion industry blog compiled 12 spring ad campaigns and blessed them all with a feline touch. Quite frankly, the results leave me wondering why the cats weren’t actually there in the first place. [Fashionista] Keep reading »
If you happen to see some photos of seriously refined, flawlessly groomed women in ladylike ’50s-style dresses thrown up on buildings and street signs around Manhattan, don’t be alarmed — it’s just Jason Wu’s latest ad campaign. The designer will forgo the traditional direction in favor of going guerrilla with his spring 2012 collection. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre, “wild postings” of ads like the one shown above are set to occur in our fair city. I love the idea of an artsier, more spontaneous take on marketing, and it’s a foolproof way to grab everyone’s attention. It reminds me of Alexander Wang’s similar guerrilla campaign back in July — I suppose great minds, and great designers, think alike. [Racked NY]
Okay, so we’re sad that Michael Pitt’s “Boardwalk Empire” character Jimmy Darmody was (SPOILER ALERT) killed off this past season, but look! Here he is! Looking as hot as ever in these Prada menswear ads. And with a guitar, even. More pics from the campaign, after the jump! Keep reading »
