They Was Robbed — 8 Stars Who Were Overlooked By The Oscars

The 2012 Academy Awards nominees were announced today, and while many of the movies and actors who made the list were as-expected, there were several expected names left off the list. Overall, it seemed like a subpar year for films, and it’s hard to get overly excited about the Oscars this year, but certainly some of the following faces should have been included in the nomination list. After the jump, our picks for overlooked nominees. Don’t forget to tell us yours in the comments.

Here Are Your 2012 Academy Award Nominations!

Good morning! Just a short time ago, the 2012 Oscar nominations were announced in Hollywood. For the most part, there were few surprises in who was nominated (Clooney, Streep, Viola Davis, “The Artist,” etc.), but as with any competition, some worthy films and players were left out in the cold. Ryan Gosling, Tilda Swinton, and Charlize Theron were overlooked, while Rooney Mara, Jonah Hill, and Melissa McCarthy were among the first-time nominees. Check out the full list of nominees after the jump — who are you rooting for when the Academy Awards are given out on Feb. 26? Keep reading »

An Open Letter To The Academy On Behalf Of Uggie

Dear members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,

My mom says I am many things, among them: smart, hilarious, beautiful, pretty, extremely shed-y, bitchy, loud, psycho, trouble-making, and loving. One adjective she would not use to describe me is “talented.” Don’t worry — she accepts full responsibility for the fact that my sole trick is catching a ball in my mouth. I learned to pin down my soft, squeaky toy and hump it, but my mom says that while it’s funny and adorable, it is not really a talent that wins awards. But that’s why I’m writing — I think dogs should be able to win big awards for their talents, in particular their talents on the big screen. And so, I write to you to urge you to allow Uggie, the dog from “The Artist,” a shot at winning an Oscar at the 2012 Academy Awards. Keep reading »

Eddie Murphy Drops Out Of Oscars Hosting Gig

James Franco Didn’t Think His Oscar-Hosting Performance Was Very Good Either

“For three or four weeks we shot the promos and the little film that played in the opening. In the last week, when we really started focusing on the script for the live show and did a run-through, I said to the producer, ‘I don’t know why you hired me, because you haven’t given me anything. I just don’t think this stuff’s going to be good.’ … As far as having low energy or seeming as though I wasn’t into it or was too cool for it, I thought, Okay Anne is going the enthusiastic route. I’ve been trained as an actor to respond to circumstances, to the people I’m working with, and not force anything. So I thought I would be the straight man and she could be the other, and that’s how I was trying to do those lines. I felt kind of trapped in that material. I felt, This is not my boat. I’m just a passenger, but I’m going down and there’s no way out.”

James Franco finally dishes on his infamously low-energy Oscar-hosting performance, which he was clearly and, now admittedly, unenthusiastic about, in an interview with Playboy. Find out what skit he was particularly unhappy about appearing in, after the jump… Keep reading »

The 20 Best Pieces Of Bling At The 2011 Academy Awards

While watching stars arrive on the red carpet and judging their fashion choices is a fun way to pass the time before an awards show starts, I’m always a little bummed that so little attention is paid to the jewelry they’re wearing. Zoom in, dammit! Gimme close-ups! Often times, the bling choices celebs make are far more exciting than the the dresses themselves, and not just because these borrowed baubles are worth way, way more. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and platinum abound, and at this year’s Academy Awards (and at the parties afterward), the stars really rocked it. Let’s zoom in on some of their choices shall we? Here are our favorite jewelry pieces from the the big night…
