“Don’t look like trash, don’t get drunk, don’t be sick down your front, don’t break your heels and stagger about in the wrong clothes at midnight. This is bad. It’s not me being a snob about it. It’s not me being an old woman talking to young women, its just standard practice for how our species should behave. Don’t behave badly. … I promise you it is better to look after yourself properly, which means behave properly, be polite, be on time, dress properly – I don’t mean dully – but don’t be sick in the gutter at midnight in a silly dress with no money to get a taxi home, because somebody will take advantage of you, either they’ll rape you, or they’ll knock you on the head or they’ll rob you. … I am now an old lioness, if I see my young ones getting out of order, I’ve got to be able to say to them this is not how lions behave. This is not right.”
– Here’s Joanna Lumley, who plays Patsy on “Absolutely Fabulous,” making comments to the UK’s Telegraph that have infuriated a lot of folks for victim-blaming. Newsflash, Joanna: women still get raped if they “behave properly” and “dress properly.” Believe me, I understand the concerns about young women and binge drinking — but these comments are pretty gross for all the “don’ts” they place on women alone. The problem is the robbers and the rapists, not women who dare to get drunk or wear a “silly dress.” [Telegraph UK]
Okay, so this is pretty awesome: Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders, stars of the amazing British show “Absolutely Fabulous,” carried the Olympic torch for a moment on Friday. The pair star as the boozy, bruisey Patsy and Adina on the show, and while it’s unfortunate that they didn’t show up in character, it’s probably for the best. Patsy might’ve tried to light her cigarette with the torch.
Kate Moss is gorgeous, but is she funny? This clip of her and Stella McCartney going head-to-head against Patsy from “Absolutely Fabulous” puts her to the test.
Watch as British sitcom “Absolutely Fabulous” rips into the Kardashians and their annoying omnipresence these days. Even if British humor isn’t your thing, you’ll giggle when they say, “There’s a new disease called the Kardashians, darling. They just sort of spread … like herpes.” Careful ladies, if visas allow I wouldn’t put it past them to pitch “Kourtney & Kim Take London.” [Huffington Post]
This year, it appears our Christmas wishes have come early. The long-awaited return of caustic British series “Absolutely Fabulous” is upon us, and we’ve got a tiny, tiny sneak peak of what’s to come during their two-part holiday special. [ONTD]
Now this is a far better idea than “Sex and the City 3.” Long before there was Carrie Bradshaw with her tutu/head scarf pairings and Samantha with her fondness for vibrators, there were Edina and Patsy of “Absolutely Fabulous.” The 40-something magazine editor and her sidekick, a PR agent, were big time hippies who went on to disco hard in the ’70s and new wave out in the ’80s. And they aren’t about to let their age keep them from chasing the cool. These two Brits cling to their booze, cigarettes and couture, no matter what Edina’s daughter Saffron had to say. The show was far too hilarious. And so I am glad to announce that it will once again be on TV. Actresses Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley have signed on to reprise their roles for three US specials, which will air on both BBC America and Logo. Keep reading »
In many ways, “Absolutely Fabulous” feels like a spoof of “Sex and the City 2” made 18 years before the movie existed. A British sitcom that ran from 1992 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2004, “Ab Fab” was about two best friends—Edina and Patsy—who’ve reached their late 40s without ever sort-of, kind-of settling down. These two lifelong friends chain smoke, drink a ton, take lots of drugs, and refer to themselves as nymphos. They are total label whores—”It’s Lacroix, darling”—who put together seriously insane outfits, and are overly proud of themselves for having been scenesters in the ’60s and ’70s. And they’re nasty—not at all above pushing an old lady down the stairs because she was moving too slow. In other words, they’re totally hilarious. Keep reading »
While traditionally women have been prized for their virtue and morality, there’s a crop of bitches out there that are sketchier than their breath and we love them for it! Every day for your viewing pleasure, these ladies got drunk as skunks, popped a few pills, said what was on their mind, dress to the nines, and then do it all over again. Yeah, they’ll never win the Nobel Prize or even Mother of the Year, but we think they deserve their applause for simply being over-the-top entertainment. So for the ladies we’d love to tie one on with, here are our Favorite Female Lushes.

Sin is in, sweetie. And it’s all been put together in one silver quilted boxset of Absolutely Fabulous episodes and specials written by the funniest comedy team from across the pond, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. From flashing off the Eiffel Tower to snorting cocaine off work papers, with almost 24 hours worth of hanging out with Britcoms boozin’, trend chasin’, pill poppin’, LaCroix lovin’ cougars, Patsy and Edina, you might need to check into rehab — but your vocabulary will grow to include “sweetie darling”, “ciggy”, and “champagne fridge”.
