Louisiana Governor Signs More Abortion Restrictions Into Law

Today's Lady News photo
  • Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has signed into law an increased “waiting period” between the time a pregnant woman views a mandatory ultrasound and when she can have her abortion. The law also says the woman will be offered an opportunity to hear a fetal heartbeat. Such “waiting period” abortion laws are considered by pro-choice activists to be an anti-abortion ploy to make obtaining an abortion more difficult for a women, because it requires more doctor appointments and more time away from work/life. WTF Chart: Men Overwhelmingly Quoted In Media About Women’s Rights, Abortion & Birth Control

This is a chart made by the media watchdog group 4thEstate.net about the numbers of women and men quoted in the media in print and on TV on women’s issues. As you can read about in more detail on 4th Estate’s site, regardless of the publication or show, men’s voices still over-represent even when the issue being discussed is women’s rights, abortion, birth control or attacks on Planned Parenthood.

The chart itself requires little explanation. The questions it arises? Those are endless. [4thEstate.net]

Congress Rejects Sex-Selection Abortion Ban

Today's Lady News photo
  • Some good news for once: the House of Representatives rejected the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA), a ban on abortions based on the gender of the fetus. The bill would have imposed jail time on medical professionals who terminated pregnancies if they had “knowledge” that the woman sought the abortion because of the gender of the fetus.  While sex-selective abortions do occur in some countries — in particular China, which favors boys — it has not been deemed a considerable problem in the U.S. Instead, abortion rights groups said this bill’s only purpose was to restrict reproductive rights. Additionally, Asian-Americans activists worried the bill would contribute to racial profiling of women seeking abortions. [AP]
  • Only two percent of registered female voters say “women’s issues” are a top priority for them in this year’s election, according to a new study by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Instead, 60 percent of registered female voters say the economy is the top issue, followed by health care. [Los Angles Times] Keep reading »

Brad Fischetti From LFO Spends All His Free Time At Abortion Clinics

You guys. This is crazy. You remember LFO, right? Of course you do. They’re the ones who like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch, remember? Yeah, those guys. Well, ever since their star began to fade in 2001, it doesn’t look like they’ve been up to too much. Rich Cronin, the cute blonde one on the far left, sadly passed away in 2010. Devin, the guy who Jennifer Love Hewitt is pressing up against, is a barber now, I believe. So where does that leave Brad, the striking young man in the middle?

Oh, you know, he just hangs out at an abortion clinic, trying to convince women who go in to “choose life.” Then he talks about it on Twitter. Read more…
