OTK, VBL, TFFF—WTF?: The Frisky Guide To Fashion Acronyms

There are some fashion acronyms so standard—LBD, VPL—that women use them with the same ease as LOL and OMG (although, come to think of it, don’t those sound a bit vintage now?). The UK’s Guardian has explained some of the more obscure ones, which are sure to challenge your style vocabulary. There’s OTK (over the knee), VBS (visible bra strap) and TFFF (too fat for fashion.) Come now, children, that is just plain silly.

When Naming A Company, Make Sure The Initials Aren’t TIT

The Wisconsin Tourism Federation has recently made a very big decision. Rather than stick with the acronym “WTF” and continue to be made fun of by sites like Boing Boing and Language Log, they’ve done a little switcheroo. They are now the Tourism Federation of Wisconsin, or “TFW.” Here are some other organizations with laughable acronyms that might want to consider doing the same.

Text Message Abbreviations Cropping Up On Birth Certificates

Text messaging will most assuredly lead to the downfall of our society. What with all the ghastly abbreviations and acronyms, we might as well quit worrying about teaching the kids how to spell. There really won’t be a point, because even their names are being misspelled, perhaps based on the way someone might type it in a quick message: Cam’ron, Flicity, etc. Some people have taken that middle-school need to spell their names differently a little too far (and they’re making their children suffer).
