Though she’s the queen of fitted dresses and slim silhouettes, Victoria Beckham is expanding her design portfolio into a new realm. Instead of sticking to sophisticated dresses and curve-hugging designs, Posh will enter the world of menswear, where the emphasis will be on tailoring. “I always design things that I love and I’ve been obsessed with tailoring—I love a great jacket,” she said of her latest design move. With all the celebrity designers forcing their opinions onto the fashion world, it’s hard to be taken seriously, but Victoria is doing her best to show her interest and involvement. While she could simply hire a designer, Victoria actually spent time studying under the tailors at Savile Row, learning their craft to prep for her newest collection and earning major respect, at least from us. Who does a pop diva turn to for new fashions after being outfitted by Thierry Mugler? If you’re Beyonce, then Victoria Beckham is the answer. Reportedly, Jay-Z’s little lady is so impressed with Posh’s fashion sense and newest collection, that she called her up and asked the singer turned designer to create new costumes for an upcoming concert. Now, during Beyonce’s last tour, there were enough body suits, glitter, and bling to make Liberace happy, but her look might be a bit toned down this time around given Posh’s design sensibility. Since she’s known for her form fitting dresses and long gowns, we’re assuming Beyonce’s going for a bit of a classier, uptown girl vibe. She is a married lady after all. [Mirror] Keep reading »
“Victoria Beckham is so nasty. Why doesn’t she just go home?! Her dresses are beautiful, but I don’t care what she does. She’s mean to all the people around her. She’s too short to be a diva. We all use the same hairdressers, make-up artists, limo-drivers, and greeters at the airports in L.A. and nobody has anything nice to say about her. They say she’s rude. She can’t always just be having a bad day. Victoria Beckham should get a life. I am not a fan of outrageous consumption. I think it is vulgar.
And no-one should flaunt that they have a hundred Hermes bags. Not when people are starving. Everyone should be allowed to have a great time but she shows a distinct lack of class. I dislike Victoria Beckham. The entitlement — the total entitlement. You want to say, ‘Calm down, you were a Spice Girl.’ The arrogance when she walks into a room is astonishing.”
– Joan Rivers didn’t mince words when the topic of Victoria Beckham came up during a Closer magazine interview in 2008. We’re almost positive the comedienne still feels the same way. [Dlisted] Keep reading »
“There’s nothing good about those outfits. I wear the feathers in my relationship. If David came home dressed like that – could you imagine? Terrible.”
Can anyone keep Victoria Beckham’s body image philosophy straight? She seems to constantly flex between opposing contradictions. One second, the media is calling out her anorexic-seeming lifestyle and the next she’s quoted as being pro-curves. To be honest, our opinion of Beckham wavers as well. Sometimes she frightens us with her so-thin physique that’s nearly alien-like, but at the same time, we absolutely respect the woman’s talent and style and agree that her Fashion Week show was a hands-down success. When Posh went on “The View” yesterday to talk about her work and the fashion industry, she seemed very pro-health: “The CFDA have reached out to designers, stylists and casting directors not to work with underage models, girls that are too thin and to be more ethnically aware. And I think designers are listening. I had a casting last week and had some terribly thin girls come in and it wouldn’t have worked.” This would seem to suggest she’s not into the heroin-chic look. And yet Beckham also said, “Most of these girls are naturally thin. And I don’t think we should be discriminating against someone because they are too thin or too curvy or too large or whatever it is.” Most models are naturally thin? We’re not so sure about that.
“It’s not healthy to be jealous. I look at David and I think, “He’s so handsome and I’m so lucky to have him as a husband.” And he’s an amazing father. I don’t blame people for looking at him and finding him attractive. I mean, I do.”
It seems kind of unlikely that celebs would engage in clothes-sharing, but if they did, we wouldn’t think to match up rail-thin Victoria Beckham and the curvy Jennifer Lopez as closet buddies. But, claims Beckham, she and J. Lo wear the same size. She discovered this while trying on a dress from her own line, which apparently was the same piece of clothing Jennifer Lopez had worn to an event earlier. Surprised? So was Victoria, who said, “Who’d have thought I’d be the same size as Jennifer Lopez!”
Do you believe this, and find that a woman’s proportions can often be deceiving in determining her size? Or is this a not-so-subtle attempt on Posh’s part to dispel any eating disorder rumors? [New York Daily News]
Apparently, Victoria isn’t the only fashion designer in the multi-talented Beckham family. Coming together for a charity project, she, David, and even their three sons, collaborated to create T-shirts for the organization Sport Relief, which “help[s] poor and vulnerable people” in disadvantaged countries. Whether they intended to or not, the shirts do take on a home art project feeling with their collages of stars, spray paint lettering, and images of David balancing a soccer ball. Keep reading »
