John Edwards might be the proud father of a newly married daughter, but he is still in trubs with the law for allegedly using $1 million in campaign funds to cover his affair with Rielle Hunter. A grand jury indicted Edwards this summer on six counts, including conspiracy, issuing false statements, and violating campaign contribution laws. John Edwards will most likely be indicted with criminal charges for using campaign cash to cover up his affair with videographer/wackadoodle, Rielle Hunter, ABC News is reporting. The U.S. Department of Justice has approved the prosecution, which seeks to indict the sleazy politician for using roughly $1 million of campaign donations to squire away Hunter from the media and the campaign, both of whom suspected the two of having an affair (and later, a love child). The prosecution is expected to argue that the Edwards campaign misused funds to try to cover up his cheating so he could continue onward with his 2008 presidential campaign. Two rich donors allegedly supplied the funds and I think we can assume “hiding the mistress” was not on their list of ways it should be spent. Ugh, I’m going to have to make a spreadsheet of sleazy politicians, their mistresses, love children, and their money problems, because it’s getting hard to keep track of them all. Sigh. John Edwards proposed to his mistress/mother of his lovechild Rielle Hunter three weeks after his estranged wife, Elizabeth, died from cancer, The National Enquirer has claimed. Granted, it’s the Enquirer, but the supermarket tabloid was originally right about him diddling former presidential campaign videographer, so they may know a thing or two. A source claims John proposed to Rielle during a “festive holiday getaway” when he introduced her to his children and that Rielle coldly told the Edwards kids — Cate, Emma Claire and John — to “call me mommy.” The couple already have a young daughter, Frances Quinn, who was the product of their affair (though John long denied he was her father).
If the couple does marry, it might make a prediction in a dishy tell-all book by John’s former aide, Andrew Young, true: John had allegedly promised Rielle they would marry after his sick wife died in a rooftop ceremony in New York City with Dave Matthews Band playing. Keep reading »
Not that John Edwards deserved anything after cheating on his cancer-stricken wife and fathering a child with crazy lady Rielle Hunter, but color me surprised that Elizabeth Edwards, who died in December, has left her estranged hubby out of the will. Cate Edwards, the couple’s 28-year-old daughter, was made executor of the will, which leaves everything to her and her two younger siblings, Emma Claire and John. The will, dated just six days before her death, reads: “All of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles … to be divided among them … ”
Elizabeth passed away after a long battle with cancer; after John’s tawdry affair with his presidential campaign videographer burst onto the pages of The National Enquirer, the couple had separated but not yet divorced. Mark your calendars for May 13, folks, and not because it’s the day after my birthday. On the 13th, John Edwards will be taking the stand in the case of Rielle Hunter versus Andrew Young. Back in January, Young started yapping about a sex tape of Edwards and Hunter that he had in his possession. Hunter sued Young for invasion of privacy, demanding that he return the tape along with several other personal items. After five hearings, it appears that he has done so. If you were shocked by Rielle Hunter‘s GQ photos—in which she poses in a button-down men’s shirt, pearls, and no pants while lying on a bed in one photo and sitting seductively with a stuffed Dora the Explorer in another—then you’re not the only one to let out a gasp. Hunter herself has called the photos “repulsive” and went crying to Barbara Walters to state her case. Yesterday, Walters revealed on “The View” that she’d spoken to Hunter, who said she cried for two hours when she saw the racy pics. When Walters asked Hunter why she sat for the photos, Walters quoted her as saying, “I went with the flow.” Hunter reportedly claims the magazine was supposed to use headshots for all but one photo and that she trusted photographer Mark Seliger to pick less promiscuous photos.
