Carine Roitfeld is one of the most recognizable names in the fashion industry, but she doesn’t have the same notoriety here in America as she does overseas, where the former Vogue Paris mogul is an icon with equal leverage to that other famous editrix, Anna Wintour. The felinic fashionista is also responsible for somewhat of a dynasty, what with daughter Julia succeeding in her well-heeled footsteps. Carine recently announced the September debut of her long-awaited New York-based magazine, CR Fashion Book, so it’s safe to say that in almost no time at all, the Frenchwoman is poised to become an American presence to be reckoned with. There are beautiful smells like vanilla, lavender, jasmine, and rose, and then there is the most beautiful smell of all: the scent of a freshly purchased MacBook Pro. Now, thanks to a collaboration between a group of artists and the scent scientists at Air Aroma, that intoxicating Apple product smell has been recreated and bottled as a perfume. Here’s the description from Air Aroma’s blog: “The scent encompasses the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop.” The perfume will be showcased as part of an art exhibit in Melbourne, Australia, but if it ever becomes available for purchase, I’m sure there would be a line around the block to buy it. Plus, they could come out with a slightly different scent every year that rendered the previous scent irrelevant. Genius! [Gothamist]

MAC x Marilyn Monroe, Coming Next Fall

Marilyn Does Vogue

I don’t know which surprises me more: the fact that MAC has chosen to release a Marilyn Monroe collection, or the fact that they haven’t already done it. God bless Marilyn, because her posthumous existence has been practically slaughtered by a never-ending parade of wannabes. That’s not to say that I don’t like the idea of Monroe-inspired makeup, because I do, but her name and likeness is trampled upon on a pretty much daily basis and it’s getting tired. The worst perpetrators are celebrities — particularly one Lindsay Lohan — who just won’t let the poor girl rest, and show no signs of ever doing so. Keep reading »

M.A.C. Teaches How to Get Fuller Lips Fast

This M.A.C. video tutorial showed up in my inbox this morning and I’m loving it.

It’s a quick, easy way to make it look like you have the fullest, most luscious lips in town — and you probably already have the products to do the job in your makeup drawer. Love it!

My favorite secret is the one about highlighting the cupid’s bow of your lip with a cream base. I would probably use a bit of undereye concealer there, which would be just a tiny bit lighter than your normal skin tone. Read more… Keep reading »

Cindy Sherman For MAC: The Weirdest, Most Awesome Collaboration Yet?

From Hello Kitty and Wonder Woman to RuPaul and Rodarte, MAC collaborations have pretty much run the gamut from one side of the weird/kooky/cool pop culture spectrum to the other. Just last week, the cosmetics company announced that Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin (interestingly enough) would represent the brand in their 2012 Viva Glam campaign. The kitsch factor runs high with MAC, and seems to underlie almost every project they take on (the Disney Venomous Villians collection?). And that sense of humor definitely shows through in its newest collaboration with off-kilter-but-awesome American photographer Cindy Sherman, whose daring, conceptual self-portraits question and challenge the way women are portrayed — and often stereotyped — in society. Cool, Calm, And Powdered

Embarrassingly, I have a little bit of a face glistening problem in the summer. Okay, it’s more of a full-on face sweating problem. Especially when the humidity hits. I shall worry about face sweat no more because all of my powder prayers have been answered with MAC’s new magically cool liquid powder. Not only does it set makeup, minimize shine, and increase radiance, but when applied it has a cooling effect, like spraying a fine mist on your face. Miraculous!

“Glitter And Ice” Collide For Johnny Weir’s M.A.C. Campaign

Johnny Weir is no stranger to M.A.C. makeup; he reportedly wears it while performing on ice. So it’s rather fitting that the makeup brand would tap Johnny for its 2011 holiday campaign, titled “Glitter and Ice.” Weir iisn’t the first man M.A.C. has hired as a brand ambassador; he joins Elton John and RuPaul, as well as, female entertainers Fergie, Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, and Nicki Minaj. We can’t wait to see him shine. [People Style Watch] Keep reading »

How To Get Elizabeth Taylor’s Beauty Look

Elizabeth Taylor is, of course, famous for her acting career, numerous marriages, charity work, and love of diamonds, but she was also known for her classic beauty look. She often highlighted her natural beauty with a dazzling red pout, but her violet eyes always took center stage with the help of bold brows and expertly lined eyes. Now, we might not be able to drape ourselves in sparkly diamonds, like Liz Taylor, but we can surely adopt her makeup tricks as we remember her life and career. Keep reading »

Glamorous Tartan Holiday

We’d be happy with having this red tartan bag just because it’s perfect for transporting our tiny valuables–like our favorite lipstick, coins, or jewelry. But MAC sweetened the deal by adding VIVA GLAM V lipstick and lip gloss to the ‘Tis Noble to Give VIVA GLAM Lip Bag. What’s even better? All proceeds go to the MAC AIDS Fund to help support people living with HIV/AIDS.

Beauty Test Drive: MAC Eye Brows Tool

Despite being able to grow thick hair really fast on my head, I can’t seem to grow in my eyebrows regardless of how long I wait between threading sessions. The hair always grows where I don’t want it and remains sparse where I do. So I’ve been filling in my brows with pencils and powders for almost a decade. And I think I’ve finally found the best one.
