And so it will be written in the record books that over the last weekend in July of 2009, “G-Force” beat out “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” for the top spot in American movie box office sales. Ain’t that sad? FBI agent guinea pigs beat out the sixth installment of the most famous story of our generation. America, what is wrong with you? G-Force looked really stupid. Like really, really dumb—and you spent a whopping $32.3 million to see it in theaters? The rest of the world wasn’t nearly as silly. They kept “Potter” at number one. At least some people have their heads screwed on properly. Now I wonder, America, what happened? Was it the mid-summer blues? Was it the broken air conditioner mixed with the unbearable heat that forced you to flock to the cinema for “G-Force?” Do we all have the emotional maturity of 10-year-olds, and thus “Harry Potter” seemed too intellectual for us? What I’m trying to get at, America, is that I’m disappointed in your movie pickings. Tsk-tsk. [Variety] Keep reading »

Ebert and Roeper can shove over, because the newest film reviewer, the Vatican, is now voicing their opinion on the latest flicks. Via their official newsletter, L’Osservatore, the Vatican has given “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” two thumbs up. The holy Romans really loved how the adapted film showed that good deserves to triumph over evil and how it portrayed the “correct balance” of adolescent love. So if you were teetering on whether to head to theaters this weekend, now you know that the Catholic Church has totally got your back. [Mirror] Keep reading »
Dreams do come true ladies, and this video of the cocky Gryffindor student “Cormac McLaggen” from “Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince,” is living proof. I know a bunch of you out there used “The Secret” to will this hot few minutes of actor Freddie Stroma shaking his booty shirtless into reality. It’s actually an ad for Acne man panties, so it’s fitting he’s shaking his money maker! Oh yeah, and Freddie, I’ll still be checking you out (clothed, sigh) in the new “Harry Potter” movie, which opens tomorrow! [WOW]
What’s going on with the phallic imagery in these Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince posters? Young adult novelist Meg Cabot points out on her blog that there’s something strange, and clearly, um, preferential going on with Ron Weasley’s manly broomstick. Placed side-by-side, you see Ron’s thick and long broom pointing upwards, while Harry’s much smaller wand points down.
“Is this Daniel Radcliffe’s punishment because we’ve all seen him with his clothes off on YouTube?” questions Cabot hilariously. Maybe Warner Bros. execs have some secret plan for turning sidekick Ron into a teen hunk (he must feel pretty lousy, after all, when he’s got not only Daniel to contend with but also co-star Emma Watson, the world’s new It Girl). Cabot sure has a point about Ron’s beefy outfit and powerful stance: “If you were a teenaged girl, who would you rather go out with,” Cabot puts it simply. [MegCabot.com] Keep reading »
