So far during 7 Days To A Prettier Place week, we’ve already show you how to copycat a girly and modern home office and a serene and tranquil bedroom. Moving on to the living room — arguably the center of any home, regardless of size — I wanted to steal the style of something a littttttle more eclectic. I gave myself a serious challenge with this room, so while it’s not exact, I think I got the vibe right on. My mom collected owl art before she had kids, so our basement was chock full of owl paintings, lithographs and tapestries (okay, my mom came of age in the ’70s.) These owls are a tasteful update on the owl obsession, perfect as a shelf objet d’art or desk paperweight. In a word, they’re a hoot.
In my dreams, my bedroom is a relaxing minimalist Zen palace, a place of comfort, warmth and delicious sleep. In reality, I have cats, and lots of books and junk. And oh, clothes that sometimes take over the floor. But if I lived in a bedroom like this, my life might be different, no? Better, yes? I am in love with this West Elm lamp, which adds a lot of style for $149. I found my coffee table on the street—I just sanded it, tightened the screws and painted it black.
*This is a joke because my entire apartment is 450 square feet. But, hey, it feels like a palace to me because until two years ago, I lived in a 250 square foot studio.
