The 5 Stages Of Amy Poehler And Will Arnett Breakup Grief

Where were you when you heard Amy Poehler and Will Arnett were breaking up? I was absentmindedly checking my Facebook, when all of a sudden everyone in my feed started posting NOOOOO! and There’s no hope for any of us! and Love is a crock of shit! We weren’t just being melodramatic (no, never!): Amy and Will really made it seem like two smart, funny people could find each other and make stupid cute big serious babies. Can you blame us for feeling like the rug — the way we understood the world! — has been pulled out from underneath us?

Fortunately we have a map for our grief. Back in the late ’60s, psychologist Elizabeth Kubler-Ross wrote a book called On Death and Dying, which analyzed the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and finally, acceptance. I think you might recognize some of them in the way we’re coping with the Arnett-Poehler breakup…
