New Details About “The Fashion Show” On Bravo

In the midst of New York Fashion Week, we’ve learned a few more details about Bravo’s upcoming show, “The Fashion Show” (the “Project Runway” replacement). The show will pit professional designers against each other for a chance to have their designs sold at a yet-to-be-named major retail outlet. Who will be judging them? Well, a studio audience will have a say, along with hosts Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland (formerly of Destiny’s Child), and judge Fern Mallis, SVP of IMG Fashion (which runs New York Fashion Week).

So, Mizrahi takes Michael Kors’s place as the “top American designer,” and Mallis fills Nina Garcia’s shoes as the fashion insider. Does that mean Roland is supposed to take over Heidi Klum’s role? If so, she’s gonna need a new, more fitting catchphrase — auf Widersehen just wouldn’t work. Keep reading »

Crave: Peacock Plume Panties

Peacock feather barrettes are all the rage right now. But because you’re a fabulous girl, we know you want to mix it up a little saucier than just snapping a feathered clip into your locks. These peacock plumage undies come in a blue or green pattern with lace ruffles around the thighs, so it’s up to you to decide what kind of colorful bird you’d like to be underneath your clothes. Undies are supposed to be about strutting and showing off your goods, anyway, right? [$12.99, Modcloth.com] Keep reading »

Crave: Luichiny Handy Boots

Date dressing is a tricky thing. We don’t want to resort to skin-tight, low-cut, belly-bearing clothes to be sexy. We want to be adored for our witty banter, our keen intellectual insights and our artistic sensibilities. And yet we want to look hot. Really hot. When a friend spied these (unworn) Luichiny Handy Boots in our closet while we were bemoaning the fact that the guy we’d been seeing couldn’t remember what neighborhood we live in (despite the fact that he used to live close by), she handed them to us and said, “Wear these, and he’ll remember your neighborhood, your phone number AND your birthday.” On our next date, the first words out of his mouth were “Those are hot boots!” Score. Now…we’re not sure about the guy, but we’re in love with the boots (and so is everyone else we’re dating). [$135.07, Endless.com] Keep reading »

As Markets Fall, Heels Get Lower

While models stumble and tumble while strutting the runway in Fall 2009 shows like Hervé Léger, a few smart designers and fashion insiders are forgetting all about gorgeous-yet-painful high, higher, and highest heels and opting for more sensible shoes. Have they finally grasped that on the whole, people have less money to spend and need to make practical purchases (low wedges can be worn to work and on weekend trips to the grocery)? Keep reading »
