The other day a friend sent me a link to an item on the Madewell site. “Weren’t these the shorts you wanted? They went on sale and are only $11!” Tempting, but I told her I was abstaining from all fashion purchases at the moment. “I’m on a fashion diet,” I said. International crisis alert! Supermodel and all-around babe Natalia Vodianova dared to show up at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year ceremony night before last with legs that had not been shaved. I know! You can hardly believe it either. The Daily Mail dedicated an entire article to this body hair situation (as did we, apparently), and, get this, Vodianova had the nerve to flaunt her fur by pulling up her skirt for the photographers. Not only that! Coco Perez has previously documented sightings of the model’s thigh hair. As StyleList points out, she’s a mother of three, so maybe she didn’t have time to get out the razor. When I saw the first few seconds of Prada’s latest fashion film, I thought, Hm, they’ve animated a runway show. How dull. But what the company is calling a “MotionBook,” rather than a “Look Book,” is actually quite a bit more than that: a startling, beautiful, surreal blending of pieces from the fall/winter 2010 line overlayed with a mix of animation twists. Grazia says of the James Lima-directed short, “We love the fashion-illustration-come-to-life feel of it, and the raw, almost comic book treatment of the images,” and so do we.
