Make Up Your Face For Under $20

Why, oh why is makeup so pricey? Yes we love our YSL and Benefit, but considering the circumstances, maybe schlepping to the drugstore beauty counter aisle isn’t so bad anymore. We’ve rounded up a face full of daytime-friendly makeup for a mere $20. Keep reading »

Get Scarlett Johansson’s Sexy-Sleek Look

For the ceremony announcing her as the new face of Mango, Scarlett Johansson rocked a super sleek style that had a bit of a sexy edge. Scarlett paired a flutter sleeve satin top with a waist cinching black skirt- both from Mango. She completed the look with a funky pair of snakeskin shoes, gold bangles, and a large ring on her index finger. This ensemble perfectly complemented Scarlett’s incredible figure so keeping the accessories to a minimum was definitely a wise move- it would have just been overkill otherwise. This outfit is the perfect day-to-night look and is classy, chic, and subtly sexy. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get the look! Keep reading »

Anatomy Of Snap-Worthy Street Style

We’ve already read about how to get spotted by street style impresarios like The Sartorialist, but we have yet to break down the anatomy of snap-worthy street style. So let’s take this out of the theoretical and into practice. We’ve picked three different pictures from The Sartorialist and we’ll break down what works after the jump. Keep reading »

Video Style Steal: Britney’s Equestrian-Style Looks Are On Our Fashion “Radar”

I don’t know what it is about Britney Spears that makes me compulsively root for her through thick and thin. I guess a part of me is still in denial, thinking she’s going to bust out onstage with a boa constrictor or silver chair and start magically performing with the energy and enthusiasm of Britney circa 2001. Even without all the flair and fanfare of her high-octane performance past, Britney is still doing pretty well for herself, now out with her new video for “Radar,” the fourth single off her latest album Circus. This time around, Britney leaves the barely-there lingerie get-ups and goes for a sort of equestrian-chic look while swooning over a sexy polo player within the video’s gorgeous Santa Barbara setting. Do Fashion Trends Ever Really Die?

The “fashion comeback” has been on our brains lately, what with the Charles Jourdan revival, the resurfacing of the peasant blouse, sheer tops and the onslaught of ’80s-inspired styles that came to a head with Marc Jacobs‘ Fall ’09 collection (pictured), and that’s just to mention a few. However, Guardian writer Paul Cocozza says we might have everything all wrong. “Fashion doesn’t really do comebacks,” he writes. “It just never properly says goodbye.” Ooohhh, deep!

Umm, Biker Shorts For $365, Why?

Is edgy, New York City designer Alexander Wang secretly pulling his inspiration from suburban malls? First he produced this leather sleeved jean jacket, which reeks of an Aeropostale catalog knockoff, and now we’ve spotted a pair of his biker shorts for sale on Shopbop.com. The spandex shorts, which were prominently featured during his Fall 2009 show, look remarkably similar to ones we’ve seen everywhere from Sears to Walmart. Except, what would cost you $30 at these department stores will run you a couple of hundred–$365 to be exact. We get it, Wang is chic and modern and all the celebs and socialites love him. But no amount of buzz in the world justifies this price point! [The Cut] Keep reading »

Style Buzz: Jackie O’s Bday and Topshop Rumors

  • This week Jackie O would have celebrated her 80th birthday were the style icon and all around classy lady still with us. Wear a pillbox hat or big, round sunglasses in homage to her this weekend. [Huffington Post]
  • Rumor has is that Topshop is making its way to Brooklyn next year. The brand says “no comment” but we’re holding our collective breaths and trying not to pee ourselves in excitement. [NY Times' The Local]
  • Emma Watson thinks it’s “strange” that people obsess over her style. If that’s true, then count us amongst the odd. [The Cut]
  • Riccardo Tisci, Givenchy’s head designer, is creating a capsule collection, Redux. We still probably won’t be able to afford it, but looking and drooling are free! [Vogue]

Etsy Find: Jenny Lee Fowler Leaf Silhouettes

It’s not often that someone can recreate something from the past in a modern way that’s completely covetable. (We can think of a few chains that attempt this all the time, and fail.) Jenny Lee Fowler, however, has managed to take the art of the Victorian silhouette and transpose it in a way that’s not kitschy, but rather completely innovative. Using leaves or bark, she uses traditional freehand and a small scissors to make custom profiles that you can then frame for decorative use. All you have to do is send in your profile shot against a neutral background, approve the outline, and await your bespoke leaf to arrive in the mail. [$65, Jennyleefowler.com and Etsy.com] Keep reading »

Now You Too Can Be As Pretty As “The Nanny”

Who doesn’t remember “The Nanny”? Since it ended, the star of the show Fran Drescher has commendably branched out to working tirelessly on behalf of women’s health issues, and now she’s extending her efforts to a new organic skincare line called FranBrand. Drescher personally worked with a chemist in California as well as organic manufacturers in Oregon to develop the products, which are free of parabens and carcinogens (aka bad chemicals you don’t want on your skin). Her line will be available November 10th exclusively via, what else? The Home Shopping Network. [StyleCaster] Keep reading »
