E-Boutique Of The Week: Rewind

Cheap is clearly the new chic! Revolve clothing, the hip online store, has joined the growing number of e-tailers with sites that sell discounted designer duds. They’ve launched Rewind, an invitation-only site, which allows members to cherry pick from a laundry list of labels, including Cheap Monday, Diesel, Paige Premium Denim and James Perse. From denim to shoes and handbags, Rewind offers a large variety of merchandise for girls and guys. If that doesn’t impress you, their shopping policy should! They have a super relaxed return policy and offer a $5 flat shipping fee no matter where you are in the U.S. Of course, they have good reason to pull out all the stops: Gilt Group and Net-a-porter have both launched discount sites, Gilt Fuse (next week!) and Outnet respectively. The transformation from fashionista to recessionista keeps getting easier. [Racked] Keep reading »

Style Buzz: Model Children And Kanye Styles Elle Shoot

  • “Real Housewife” Danielle’s daughter Christine Staub is following in her mother’s over-Botoxed footsteps and becoming a model. In her defense, the soon-to-be high school sophomore actually is pretty gorgeous. No wonder IMG Models scooped her up at age 15. [People]
  • Kanye West, still apparently being considered fashion-y, styled an as-yet-unidentified model for Elle‘s October issue. Coincidentally, GF Amber Rose just did her first photo shoot for Ford. We sense a collaboration… [The Cut]

Spotted! The Michelle Obama Clothes Line

Sure, she knows a thing or two about high-end designers (Jason Wu, anyone?), but that doesn’t mean First Lady Michelle Obama doesn’t wear less pricey ones. Her love of The Gap and J.Crew is well-documented and she recently wore both at the cover shoot for a new magazine, Children’s Health. The makeup artist on set, Susan Heydt, revealed that MObama wore a blue Gap cardigan over a J.Crew skirt. But with as much love as she shows them, when are these designers going to return the favor with a Michelle Obama-inspired collection? Keep reading »

Crave: Miansai Jewelry (Win One!)

Miansai was created with boys in mind, but the aged copper bracelets, Native American-inspired necklaces, and silver-bullet charms are good enough for us. The line was created by Michael Andrew Saiger, a 23-year-old model whose love for antiques and travel inspired him to launch his first collection after graduating from college. The line just debuted and will be available in stores starting this fall. While shopping on the Miansai website, we encourage you to take a look at photos of Saiger too. He looks just as good as the jewelry he designs! [$65 - $2,500, Miansai]

We’re giving five winners a custom piece from Miansai, hand-picked by the designer himself — but you have to work it if you want one.The five best commenters from Friday, August 7 to Thursday, August 13 will win a set of their own. Click HERE to read the official rules.

Breaking News: Four-Inch Heels Can Be Comfy

Kenneth Cole is stepping into the future (ha) with technologically advanced shoes that apparently make four-inch heels tolerable—hell, comfortable, even! [Anyone else having an Easy Spirit flashback here? -- Editor] Four years in the making, these new high heels won’t leave you limping home after you’ve worn them all day. You can commute in them (hooray, no more pantyhose/white tennis shoes combos!), and as this video proves, you can also run around the hills of Central Park in ‘em. (Vid disclaimer: Unless you don’t mind multiple super-close camera shots of a blister-y foot, skip it, trust us!) Word is they’re made with foot-molding foam, have loads of arch support and offer legit shock absorption. My one and only plea to Kenneth, though—can you make some without the silver heel? I’m not blasting off to take a stroll around the moon in them anytime soon. [ABC News]

Where Have All the Models Gone?

In the furor over the surprisingly glam Susan Boyle Harper’s Bazaar pics that came out recently, some of you may have forgotten early rumors that she’d be on the mag’s cover rather than an inside feature story.

Well, I wrote about the rumors for another site a few weeks ago and the readers there haven’t forgotten. Instead, I’m still getting diatribe-esque comments, many of which have been taken down because they were a hot mess that violates site commenting policy. Honestly, I didn’t think I was saying anything everyone wasn’t already thinking when I wrote that the idea of Susan Boyle on the cover of high-fashion mag Harper’s Bazaar was insane.

I may not be popular for saying this, but I, for one, would rather see models on the covers of magazines. Let me explain. Keep reading »

Looks Like John Robshaw—Priced Like Real Girl Decor

Raise your hand if you love textile designer, John Robshaw’s colorful, Indian-inspired throw pillows, linens, bedding and printed dhurries. Yeah, me, too. But what my bank account can’t get over are his prices—one-of-a-kind, hand-printed stuff doesn’t come cheap. Or does it? Behold the non-profit, Friends of Tilonia—it’s an organization that benefits the craft section of the Barefoot College, a 35-year-old institution in Tilonia, India, that addresses the basic needs of the local, rural poor by promoting their artisanal skills. Truth. They offer all sorts of soft home furnishings (think bedding, throw pillows…sounds familiar, coughJohnRobshawcough, right?) and their block-printed fabrics are other-worldly. No, I’m serious—click here, here and here. And I’m not going to even get into the insanity that are the decorative pillows! Take it from someone who just bought Robshaw pillows on eBay for at least $90 each, this site is a welcome addition to the decorating arsenal. [Nick's Dream House] Keep reading »

Padma Lakshmi Gets Nude For Jewels

So if that commercial for the Western Bacon Thickburger didn’t convince you, this advertisement surely will: Padma Lakshmi is really, really sexy. It’s for her jewelry line and was shot last spring by legendary fashion photographer, Steven Meisel. As is plenty obvious, Lakshmi is in the buff and “dressed” only in gold necklaces and gemstones from her collection. The ad will be featured in magazines this fall and will also be seen on her website, PadmaLakshmi.com. The jewels are sold online at Bergdorf Goodman stores nationwide. Nude model/designer not included. Do we like? [WWD]

More GOOP From Gwyneth: Homemade Beauty Recipes!

Another day, another Gwyneth Paltrow GOOP edition chock-full of sage advice. This time she addresses the beauty realm, and here’s a synopsis of the tips: Make a body scrub by mixing Turbinado (that’s sugar that comes from the first pressing of the sugar cane), olive oil and coarsely ground coffee, the latter of which Miss Paltrow does not, repeat, does not ever drink. Soften skin with oatmeal and honey before rubbing it with aloe vera juice to reduce redness, and reduce puffy morning eyes by placing chilled spoons over your lids or use cotton pads soaked in cold milk. Prevent wrinkles by doing daily facial exercises like sticking your tongue out as far as you can while keeping your eyes wide for 30 seconds. Apply a boatload of coconut oil after a bath to goop up your skin, which we can assure you is the story behind her seriously oily legs on “Letterman” recently.

Okay, Goopy, let’s talk. Keep reading »
