Finally, Check Out Tom Ford’s Spring 2011 Collection

At long last, we get to see designer Tom Ford‘s much discussed and totally secreted away collection for spring 2011. Six years ago, Ford resigned from his dual post as creative director of Gucci and YSL, leaving ’70s-loving ladies filled with sadness. In the interim, Ford created his own brand, hawking fragrances and eye wear, opened a series of menswear retail stores, and made the critically acclaimed “A Single Man,” for which leading man Colin Firth was nominated for an Academy Award. But it wasn’t until this September that Ford returned to women’s wear with a fashion show that only a select few were allowed to see, which featured models like Beyonce and Julianne Moore, and from which photographers were barred, save one. Now, Vogue has the first images of the collection and a profile of the designer, who’s committed to helming his brand his way. [Vogue] Keep reading »

Do Not Want: Blood-Stained Sweater

I’m all for eye-catching design, but I’d prefer that my clothing choices didn’t lead to 911 calls from concerned passersby, like this Jason Wu sweater might: “Ummm, yeah, there’s a woman in front of me in line at Starbucks, and she’s obviously bleeding out, but she doesn’t seem to notice … yeah … that’s right … no she seems pretty perky … she just ordered a latte … send someone quick.” But hey, if you’re looking to meet a hot paramedic, it’s only $625 at Bergdorf Goodman. Tavi And Jane Pratt To Start “Sassy”-Esque Teen Mag (And You Can Be A Part Of It!)

The media lords hath heard our prayers! If you aren’t already freaking out, you will when you hear this: Fashion blogging sensation Tavi and Jane Pratt (founder and editor of Sassy and Jane mags) are teaming up to create a new teen magazine. Tavi made the announcement on her blog, saying, “You guys may know how I feel about Sassy. You also may know that I’ve been babbling about how I think our generation should get one, too. Jane Pratt, founding editor and then EIC of Sassy, also became aware, and emailed me, and we’ve met a couple times, and it looks like we’re going to start a magazine for an audience of wallflowerly teenage girls.”

People like us have been clamoring for ages for a Sassy revival, and we could see the potential for that to happen with Tavi, but as she wisely points out, “[this magazine] won’t be Sassy (or the rebirth of Sassy, or Sassy 2.0) and nor do we want it to be.” Rather, the publication will “use Sassy as a point of reference for the whole teen-magazine-that-doesn’t-suck thing …” We love how Tavi wants to create something new but still retain the nostalgia for an era that feels creative to us now … Keep reading »

What Do We Think Of Plaid Kitten Heel Boots?

Inspiration Board: Borrowing From The Boys

Refinery 29 put me on to Street Etiquette, a men’s street fashion blog run by two gentlemen from the Bronx, Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs. These guys and the other stylish men they feature on their site have mastered the art of making retro-inspired clothing look current. And their accessories game is on point, too. I love a man who’s not afraid to wear jewelry–and I like the way they wear multiple rings, bangles/bracelets, and necklaces.

Sometimes it’s great to borrow from the men’s department, and I instantly fell in love with this look from photographer Kadeem Johnson, a friend of Street Etiquette. I knew I had to recreate it for the ladies. Only problem, though? It’s very difficult to find a maroon and blue stripe button-down shirt right now (his is vintage). So check out a similar look after the jump. Keep reading »
