We don’t care how much money you have — or don’t have — there’s nothing like free stuff. One of the best deals we’ve heard of in ages is getting ready to assault your senses, or more to the point, your skin, in mere hours. Estee Lauder is giving away a quarter million bottles of their new night cream this Thursday (that’s tomorrow!). The cream, called Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex (say that three times fast), will be handed out across the country from 5 to 9 pm at Estee Lauder department and specialty store counters. These ain’t no skimpy samples by the way. They’re giving you enough to last 10 days. Just enough time to get hooked… Go here for more deets! Keep reading »

DIY Cool Braids

Sometimes inspiration comes when you’re not looking for it. In some of our random fashion browsing on the Internet, when we were looking for clothing-related posts, we found ourselves completely ignoring the goods on the page and were instead entranced by these models’ hairstyles. The styling on each is perhaps perfect—braids complimented by Grecian and knotted accessories. Here’s how to get these two innovative ‘dos… Keep reading »

A.P.C. Launches … Kindergarten?

We hear Jean Touitou, the designer behind cult French label A.P.C., may be taking the popular multidisciplinary approach to the fashion business, but in a completely unexpected way. A few months ago, Touitou opened a school for two- to six-year-olds in Paris called Ateliers de la Petite Enfance (or A.P.E. for short). We’re just learning about the posh, artsy academy now, so it made us wonder what would happen if other fashion designers started schools…what would they teach? Keep reading »

Love Nest: Is That Chair Proenza Schouler?

Attention, Proenza fans: Fashion It duo Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough have come out with a textile collection for interiors mega-company Knoll that’s dark and dramatic—and mostly, it seems, inspired by their past collections. Think rich jewel tones, a range of neutrals, classic damask, plus a handful of other patterns and the Proenza favorite color combo of navy and black. Knoll doesn’t list prices, but I have to assume their textiles, like their collection, don’t come cheap. Still, do we like? [Knoll via Domicidal Maniac] Keep reading »

Christian Lacroix’s Failing Label May Be Saved!

Christian Lacroix has been so badly in the red as of late that he was given until the end of this month to find an investor to save his company or else he’d face liquidation. With a few days to go until August, it looks like Lacroix may be saved yet. Bernard Krief Consulting, a French firm that specializes in buying and saving failing companies, plans to put in a bid for the Lacroix label this Monday. Keep reading »

The Frisky Exclusive: 9 Questions With Nicole Miller

We all adore Nicole Miller for her bold, sexy, chic cocktail dresses which work just as well for the senior prom in your hometown as they do for a high-brow shindig in the big city. It’s her knack for turning out fashion-forward yet wearable pieces that has elevated Miller into full-on American Fashion icon status. Her clothes are worn by red carpet regulars like Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson, and Beyonce, while her show during New York Fashion Week attracts hundreds of top fashion editors. So just imagine my sheer joy when I got a chance to chat with the designer herself this week about everything from her busy schedule to the mean girls of fashion! Dig in, after the jump!

Quote Of The Day: Fran Lebowitz On How To Age Well

“When people say, ‘Doesn’t Gloria [Vanderbilt] look great? She’s 85.’ I say, ‘Yes, she was a raving beauty when she was 20,’ that’s the key. Very helpful.”

Fran Lebowitz on why her friend Gloria Vanderbilt looks so awesome for her age. So put the Botox away. Either ya got it or ya don’t. [WWD]

Trend Alert: Sunglasses-Inspired Jewelry

This summer staple is enjoying newfound attention from designers who have created fun new accessories inspired by shades. Our favorite so far are from A’N'D, which sells Wrist Shade Bracelets, bangles cut from sunglass lenses. Their Grey Neckshade Necklace (above), also features nearly a dozen charms which look like broken shades. (Log on to Creature Comforts to find these pieces on sale right now.) While you’re at it, log on to Odd and Even NYC, which sells amazing vintage-inspired shades by designer Samantha Smikle. Her Double Chain Faced Shades, $20, are connected to a gold chain link, which means you can wear them as a necklace or in the traditional style of over your eyes to protect your peepers from the sun. So old school!

Italian Vogue’s Second “Black Issue” Stars … Barbie?

Vogue Italia certainly knows how to increase sales:

  1. Drum up media coverage by launching an all black issue that features only African-American models.
  2. Follow up a year later, only replace the models with inanimate black objects and simply drum up controversy.

In its second go-around, the magazine has named Barbie its cover girl of the now annual Black issue. Says editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie.” Huh. Let’s take a closer look, shall we? Keep reading »

America’s Next Top (Craigslist) Model

Alexander Wang’s runway show is one of the hardest fashion week spots to score a ticket to. The music is always great, his clothes embody bad ass chic, and the models he sends down the runway are hot and extra stomp-y. But it wasn’t always that way. When Wang first started out, he cast his early models from the glamorous halls of Craigslist, home of used bikes, thinly veiled prostitution and those Missed Connections things that my, um, friends sometimes check out when they’re bored. [Fashionologie] Keep reading »
