The Versace family—a veritable Italian fashion dynasty—has seen its fair share of scandal and drama (deaths, unfortunate bouts of plastic surgery—we’re looking at you, Donatella). So the rumor that the Versaces are involved in the “’Ndrangheta,” which WWD describes as “the equivalent of the Sicilian Mafia,” actually seems believable. Apparently, an interview with a former member of the Mafia-like org has surfaced, and states that the family has some sort of tie to the ‘Ndrangheta (yeah, we have no idea how to pronounce that), and even that Gianni Versace’s 1997 murder was somehow linked to financial debts the designer owed the mob. Of course, the Versace family and company denies all the accusations. So, who knows if it’s really true? At the very least, someone should write a juicy thriller based on this premise! Apparently, in October, Vogue ran a story that gave “practical advice on how to do as New Yorkers do — and dare to bare your legs this winter …” We’re not sure which NYC women they were talking about exactly, because as far as we understand this is a practice for crazy people. Now the U.K. version of Vogue is discussing how to transition this trend to winter, so you can stay bare-legged through February (we literally just got colder thinking about this). Their suggestions: cozy up with fur, look for skirts with longer hemlines, and lastly to “take tips from the seasoned experts in New York and in the North.” As to what these additional “tips” are, that’s left unanswered.
As you can probably guess, for us, this trend is met with a big, fat “why?” Barring super fancy events, we’d be reluctant to give up protection of the cold on any other day. What do you think of going tights-less in winter? A cool idea? Or an idea that’s literally too cool? [Vogue UK] Keep reading »
Why celebrities should never, ever accidentally leave belongings behind: they will surely end up on the internet or up for auction. That’s what’s going on with a pair of Queen Elizabeth‘s underpants—if you can even call them that—that she apparently left on a plane way back in 1968. For some 40 years, they had been in the possession of a Florida man, recently deceased. The old-fashioned panties will be up for auction at the man’s estate sale and are expected to go for as much as $9,000! This apparently happened to Queen Victoria’s underwear, which sold for the same price, reports TMZ.
OK: a) the royal family needs to stop leaving its underwear in easy-to-find places, and b) bloomers? We realize the pair is quite old, but even before the ’60s, people were wearing standard panties as we know them. [TMZ] Keep reading »
Behold some of Noritaka Tatehana’s crazy shoe designs (are those high-heeled cleats on the left?) that even Lady Gaga would find challenging to walk in. [Trendland] Keep reading »
Meet Kaylin Ransom, a 22-year-old resident of Ocala, FL. She spends her weeks doing hair and her weekends in Lake County Jail. The aptly named Ransom is under a plea deal for felony battery and child abuse, and whenever she checks into her “weekend home” she has to take a new mug shot. So following in the footsteps of Naomi Campbell, who famously wore haute couture while performing her community service with the New York Department of Sanitation, Ransom gets glam, in her own way, before taking her mug shots. She’s known for her lace-front wigs, extensions, false eyelashes, and photo shoot-worthy makeup. Now, if Ransom had lesser charges, I’d say this was a unique way of giving the system the finger, but charges of battery and child abuse warrant a lot more repentance, in my book, than getting fly for a weekly jail stay. Jared Leto is a master of the Facebook—he constantly uploads sweet stuff to his page. But apparently, he’s not giving his new blue ‘do enough coverage. So, Jared Leto’s Mint Blue Hair is showing off his awesome style — which, as you’ll notice in the photo to the right, he totally cribbed from “Velvet Goldmine” rocker Brian Slade. Right?! I mean, it can’t be just coincidence that he’s touring England with his band, 30 Seconds To Mars, looking like the glam rock luvah from the British flick. Clearly, Jared is begging for a sequel to be made starring him. Writer/Director Todd Haynes, get on it! Keep reading »
