Could Ashley Olsen Ever “Quit” Fashion?

Are the Olsens experiencing “fashion fatigue”? Yesterday, we saw how Mary-Kate has been looking more hobo than boho. Now Ashley, the more serious style maven of the two, admits she may be looking to leave the fashion world and her luxury line, The Row. According to HollyScoop.com, Ashley recently stated:

“(In the fashion world) everyone is just really looking out for themselves. I don’t know if I’ll be designing this collection forever. A couple of years from now, I’m sure I’ll want to do something else, and I’m not going to shy away from that. What if I just want to be an artist, or if I want to go back to acting? Which is not in the cards, but what if I wanted to do that?”

Sounds to us like Ashley may just be a bit worn down, and we don’t blame her! (Managing a clothing label, all the other Olsen properties, and heaving around a venti Starbucks latte 24/7 must be exhausting.) But let’s face facts—even if Ashley were to “leave” fashion, she’d have to fall off the face of the earth. Ashley is already too great a style icon to stop influencing trends, even if she stops producing the clothes you can buy to rock those trends. [Wait, do you guys consider Ashley a "style icon"? Personally, I do not, but maybe that's just me? -- Editor] [HollyScoop.com]

Crave: Normal Watches

Sure to be this generation’s answer to the Swatch, Normal Watches come in an array of candy colors and feature timely graphics and quotes, like “Facebook Ruined My Life,” “I’m So Gay For Marriage,” and the sadly true “When Did Rock ‘N’ Roll Become So F***ing Boring?” We might even have to make an exception on our no bubblegum pink rule so we can don this cool “I Want Candy” watch. Read the “entirely true” story of how the company started and just try to resist. [$17.98, Joe Rockhead via Outblush] Keep reading »

These Shoes Are Off The Chain

Chains are clearly the “it” accoutrement for your lower appendages. We already told you about chain leggings, but these pumps, from Chain Shoes duo Tove Jansson and Per Emanuelsson, up the ante. Their design recently won the 2009 Shoemania design competition; they’re rather unwearable, but what pair of 7-inch platforms really is? After the jump, Chain Shoes’ rusty chain loafers for dudes. They look heavy but a little more foot-friendly. [via Trendhunter] Keep reading »

Will A “Model Code of Conduct” Diminish Sexual Harassment And Injuries?

As glamorous as modeling may seem, it’s also chock-full of sexual harassment and other shady business. We open a magazine and see the picture to the left, but in order for that picture to happen some 16-year-old girl was balancing on an elevated chair and the other model was trying not to get hit in the face with the legs of said chair.

In an attempt to stop the upskirt grabbing, dangerous photo shoots, and general tomfoolery that models are often subjected to, the British Fashion Council and the Association of Modeling Agencies are putting together a model code of conduct with the aid of models Victoria Keon-Cohen and Dunja Knezevic. Considering that they were inspired to act after one male model’s scalp bled when his hair was over-bleached and a bevy of jumping beauties sprained their ankles wearing high heels on a trampoline (um yeah, not even kidding), we wish them luck! How Much Would You Pay For A Good Haircut?

Is $24,000 too much to pay for a haircut? The obvious answer is yes! But not when you are the Sultan of Brunei. The 61-year-old, who is said to be worth an estimated $24 billion, paid exactly that to have his hairstylist Ken Modestou cut his hair. The British barber has been cutting the Sultan’s hair for the past 16 years, and while he charges his regular clients about $60 per cut, it looks like the Sultan kicks him a little more change. (The $24,000 fee includes a luxury flight on a Singapore airline to the Sultan’s home in the Middle East, sumptuous hotel accommodations for a few nights and several thousand dollars as the actual fee of the haircut.) Not a bad gig if you can get it, right? [Allure]

But all this makes us consider how much we shell out for our own cuts. As anyone who’s suffered major post-snip trauma knows, sometimes it pays to spend a little extra. Then again, sometimes expensive isn’t always best. What’s the most you’ve spent on a hairdo? Keep reading »

Wear Your Heart On Your Sleeve And Your Skeleton On Your Front

The other day, I was in a store, and there was a Halloween shirt … in August? Sigh. But I love these Richard Sorger for ASOS Silk Georgette Skeleton dresses in yellow and black. They’re spooky and sexy at the same time — although, they will set you back about $250. The chillaxin’ skeleton is embellished for some extra pop, and the silk is so sheer that if you don’t wear something underneath it someone else may be able to see your skeleton. Frisky fashion editor Erin Flaherty says: “It begs to be worn with jeggings.’” These are skeletons you won’t be ashamed to let out of your closet. [Kingdom of Style] Keep reading »

Sex And Fashion Meet Beads And Felt

Think arts and crafts projects are all about camp activities and innocent fun? French artist Marianne Batlle causes us to think again. While her handmade beaded broaches are super crafty, they also channel the world of haute couture with portraits of cute Coco Chanels with signature pearls, cartoonish Karl Lagerfelds, and a flamboyant John Galliano.

Things get weirder with Batlle’s other objets d’art, which involve some equally crafty, um, crocheted penises. While she makes some tamer Christmas-themed sculptures (a fuzzy red penis with a green bow), on Batlle’s website there’s a whole animated fashion show of penis dolls conceived in different themes like Chanel, “Bora Bora” (blue with an exotic purple flower), and “How to Marry a Millionaire,” which is a gold and silver phallus. Who would buy these, you ask? No clue. But if you’re dying for a look, check after the jump for a picture of one of the concept pieces. [CoolHunting.com]

In case you couldn’t make it down to the ATL for the Bronner Bros. International Hair Show last weekend, Black Voices has an eye-popping slide show of the craziest hairdos that you have ever seen. “The more outrageous, the better,” indeed. NASCAR racetrack hair! A Michael-Jackson-shaved-into-the-back-of-the-scalp fade! And something that looks like a banana plant. [Black Voices] Keep reading »

Anna Wintour Melts (A Little) On Letterman

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was on “The Late Show” last night to promote “The September Issue” and she was everything I expected and more. She trotted out in her signature sunglasses, didn’t let Letterman intimidate her in the slightest, and, perhaps unexpectedly, she was funny! She poked fun at Dave’s socks and sincerely seemed to suggest he buy Thom Browne suits, with their cropped pant leg, so he could show them off, and despite a reputation for being completely unapproachable, she was actually quite self-deprecating. Check out the interview above! Keep reading »
