Quick Pic: Devil Horns Are In For Spring 2010

Animal ears have been a pretty hot, albeit fairly unwearable, trend these last few months. But what could possibly top the Louis Vuitton bunny ears Madonna wore to the Met Ball? Vivienne Westwood took hair pieces to the next level by adorning models at her spring 2010 show with devil horns. You’d think devil horns would look fierce, but these are downright comical. Quick Pic: Step Away From The False Lashes

OK Kim, honey, we need to talk. The blue eye makeup is a nice touch with your white dress — if anyone is gonna pull off Barbie makeup, it’s you girl. But those fake lashes are so long it’s a wonder you can keep your eyes open at all. Next time, three sizes smaller, m’kay? [Los Angeles, 9/20/09] Keep reading »

How To Get Elisabeth Moss’s Rosy Glow At The Emmys

Peggy Olson has really stepped up her look on the current season of “Mad Men,” but she still isn’t quite as lovely as Elisabeth Moss is when she’s out of character. The actress looked quite nice on the red carpet last night with her simple makeup that eschewed the Hollywood trend to heap on the bronzer. Find out how to get her look after the jump! Caught In A Swirl Of Confusion Over The Tie-Dye Denim Trend?

Did you just audibly gasp in horror upon seeing these tie-dye jeans? Us too. Are people seriously buying these? We knew the ’80s were back when acid wash denim started showing up on the butts of celebs, but this is taking things to a whole new level.

Neiman Marcus has been promoting these styles as the “trend to dye for” (oh har-har), and a few culprits are also being sold on RonHerman.com and Shopbop. Surprisingly, the designs are produced by some of our favorite denim brands—Current/Elliot, J Brand, James. The scary thing about tie-dye denim is that it’s almost, almost something you might change your mind about if you saw Kate Moss rocking it the right way. (Let’s hope she doesn’t.)

What do you think? [NeimanMarcus.com, Shopbop.com] Keep reading »

The Easy Way To Relax An Uptight Bun

This past weekend I was a bridesmaid in a good friend’s wedding and, as is seemingly customary these days, the bridesmaids had their hair did for the walk down the aisle as well as for the endless photo sessions. I decided, Hey, it’s a wind tunnel out there; do I really want to fight with my hair all day/night? Why don’t I go for an updo? (And it’s not like I don’t spend my days talking about updos ad nauseum on The Frisky anyway—so it was time to start really living what I’ve been preaching!) As is always my problem, I had trouble explaining exactly what I wanted. I did manage to communicate that I wanted a bun but not a super-tight one and I wanted it to look like I did it myself. Basically, I wanted nothing to do with one of those intense, huge, tight, donut-shaped Jennifer Lopez hairdos. One of the other bridesmaids so perfectly described the size I wanted: “Less Cinnabon, more Dunkin Donuts.” Great. And as Jenn, my stylist, was soaking in all my wants/needs/crazy talk, she passed on one amazing nugget of a hair trick … Keep reading »

Quick Pic: This Is What A Really, Really Bad Hair Day Looks Like

If hair could scream in agony, our eardrums would be bursting. We know that the fashion industry has been using the economy as an excuse to produce more “artistic” runway shows, but French designer Charlie Le Mindu has taken things to quite the extreme at London Fashion Week. Outfitting his models in sculptural hair, um, things … some displayed braided masks, while others were covered in super-large helmet-like ‘dos.

We hear that Chewbacca is Mr. Le Mindu’s most loyal customer, and of the new collection, he said, “Aowwww! Raarghhh!” Keep reading »

Crave: Marc By Marc Jacobs Animal Charm Bangles

Want a piece of Marc Jacobs style that won’t cost you your firstborn child? This set of Marc by Marc Jacobs bangles sells for less than 100 bones, and they actually strike us as the grown-up version of something we would have worn as a kid. The five bracelets feature cute crystal owls, apples, and mice affixed to thin gold-plated bands. There’s also one with a signature MJ heart on it — because sometimes the point of wearing a label is to have people know you’re wearing it, right? [$88, Shopbop] Keep reading »

Do Women Take Better Pictures Of Other Women?

Ellen von Unwerth is one of only a few women in the fashion photography world. In a field largely dominated by males, von Unwerth’s often-dream-like photos have appeared in magazines like Vanity Fair, Interview, and Vogue, along with ad campaigns for major brands, including Chanel, Banana Republic, and Victoria’s Secret. In a very expensive book ($700!?!) called Fräulein, to be released in December, the Bavarian photographer celebrates sexy female icons of the modern era.

In an article in The Sunday Times, Katie Roiphe writes that the women (from Claudia Schiffer and Milla Jovovich to Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears) in von Unwerth’s book are sexy because they seem to be enjoying themselves, “though they might be even happier if another person were there.” They look good because they’re self-confident — and not the least bit clingy. Could part of the reason for the heightened sexiness be that the photographer is also a woman? Keep reading »

The Frisky’s Chic On The Street: London Sep. 21st 2009

You’ve got to love a couple that looks like they share a closet. Strolling Bond Street, a famous shopping stop in London, Fiona’s Gant blazer and preppy loafers look smart in the early autumn. Her best accessory? Her boyfriend, Gustav. Hopefully, Gustav is as good a match in other ways as he is in the wardrobe department. Keep reading »
