Heidi Klum Puts Her Maternity Experience To More Use

Splash News

Forget fragrances. The new celebrity branding trend is maternity clothing lines. Heidi Klum is getting into the mom-to-be biz just like Nicole Richie and Christian Siriano have done in the past six months. Heidi will launch not one, but two maternity lines on Feb. 12. “Lavish by Heidi Klum” and “Loved by Heidi Klum” will feature 29 pieces, including a tunic and a maxi dress, the expectant mom must-have. We all know Heidi’s had quite a bit of experience in dressing a pregnant body. “I experienced fashion challenges during my four pregnancies and combined my knowledge of what works in terms of style, comfort and practicality to create these lines. Being pregnant shouldn’t stop you from being fashionable and feeling great about your changing body. It’s an exciting journey,” she says. [Starpulse]

Would You Tattoo Yourself With Double-C’s?

Chanel Spring 2010

In our A.D.D.-addled generation, the ability to easily change your look—from your outfit to your hair—is necessary. So although tattoos have gained and maintained their popularity, there’s something stressful about the utter permanence of the design. Karl Lagerfeld has the answer. Remember when we spotted these temporary double-C tattoos on the models at the Chanel spring 2010 show? Well, now they can be yours. Starting in mid-Feb., Les Trompe L’Oeil de Chanel Temporary Skin Art will go on sale at Chanel.com. For about $78, you’ll get 55 tattoos—a small price to pay considering the cost of a real tattoo or a quilted bag. [Elle UK]

Insane, Ballsy Move: Weatherproof Puts Obama Ad In Times Square

Obama Weatherproof ad

Clothing company Weatherproof just scored quite the plum spokesmodel: Who better to vouch for their spiffy, sporty jackets than President Obama looking handsome and rugged at The Great Wall of China? In fact, he charges much less than Linda Evangelista (actually, he costs zero dollars), and they’re so dang proud they just went ahead and plastered the ad right up in the middle of Times Square, one of the crossroads of the world. Why exactly is this such an extraordinary, awe-inspiring feat? Because Obama had absolutely no say in the move, and therefore Weatherproof clearly has some pretty huge cajones.

So how did this happen exactly?

Do You Put Mascara On Your Lower Lashes?

Amy Adams

What are your thoughts on mascara and lower lashes? We know that Amy Adams, above, is a fan of the stand-out makeup move—or maybe it’s just that her makeup artist is, of course. Personally, I’m not a fan—it feels a little too overdone, like my lower lashes are in a look-at-me competition with my upper ones. That and the very small fact that I can never apply it without globs of mascara and clumps (and having to separate my individual lashes one by one with a safety pin—sorry, eyeballs!). But I’ve been working on my technique and have found three tricks that help:

Cheapskate: Yoox

Much like an endless online sample sale, Yoox.com plays host to scores of designer duds and regular person prices all the time. Now, however, even their sale stuff is even more on sale and the deals are a little ridiculous. Sizes can be a bit tricky to find, but if you’re willing to e-dig for a little bit, you’ll definitely find something for you. Our favorites after the jump.

Do You Take Collagen In Your Coffee?

nescafe collagen

Can you drink your way to perfect skin? And when we say “drink,” we’re unfortunately not referring to beer and wine. Rather, we’re talking about beauty beverages, a trend which only slightly took off in the United States thanks to Borba and Glowelle, but is apparently a full-blown obsession in some Asian countries. The New York Times reports that more and more, drinks (and food) are still being marketed as beauty products: “Global food and drink product launches with a ‘beauty enhancing’ claim increased by a staggering 306 percent from 2005 to 2008.” To wit, you can now find a whole range of “skin-enhancing” food including Nescafe instant coffee infused with collagen (in Japan they put it in yogurt, apparently) and waters with Resveratrol.

So does this stuff actually work? Dermatologists say that you’re better off eating vitamin-rich meals. We guess it just depends on what seems more appetizing to you? A hot cuppa facial? Or a fruit cup? [NY Times]

Not Cool: H&M And Wal-Mart Trash Unsold Clothes

h and m logo

Where does unsold fashion merchandise go to die? In an ideal world, it would go to charity. For H&M and Wal-Mart, it apparently gets slashed so it’s unwearable, and then chucked in the garbage. One New Yorker made this sad discovery when she happened upon tons of black trash bags filled with H&M clothing ruined with intentional cuts and holes. Some of the items even included winter jackets that retailed for as much as $129, and the store location was down the street from a charity coat collection post. It looks as if Wal-Mart is also guilty of this wasteful procedure even though a company rep told the New York Times that clothes are “normally” donated.

How can this be?

Love It Or Hate It: Jessica Alba’s Blunt Cut

Jessica Alba blunt hair

Last night at the People’s Choice Awards Jessica Alba unveiled a new hair look—a super-blunt, shoulder-length cut. What do you think? (I actually didn’t even recognize her at first!) For those of you in the “I love” category, here’s what you ask your stylist for (bring in a photo of Jess, too): No layers—well, no choppy or short layers. You do, technically, want very long (think: a half-inch to an inch shorter than your actual hair), non-chunky layers. This will get rid of some of the weight of your hair and add movement at the ends. I love the length Jessica chose, as it highlights the bluntness and is still long enough not to feel to bob-ish. To get her style: Jessica’s hair is pretty wavy to begin with so a lot of what you are seeing is natural wave. For the rest of us, blow-dry hair paying special attention to the roots—give them a thorough blast of air with your head flipped over to create volume at the roots. Then, to create wave, use a medium or a slightly larger barreled curling iron, wrap sections of hair around it leaving the bottom two inches free. Using a teeny tiny amount of styling creme, rake your fingers to gently separate the curl.

PETA’s Big Oops: Michelle Isn’t Happy About Her Surprise Ad Appearance

peta ad

Ooooh ... looks like somebody’s in trou-ble! Although, to be honest, it seems like PETA was asking for it when they decided to go ahead about put celeb faces on their latest ad with no one’s consent. The poster, which features the slogan “Fur-Free and Fabulous!,” photoshops together a handful of stylish stars who have spoken out against fur in the past—Oprah, Carrie Underwood, Tyra Banks, and the First Lady, Michelle Obama.

It’s unclear how the other ladies in the ad feel about this, but the White House is very upset about the surprise endorsement. PETA’s rationalization? “The fact is that Michelle Obama has issued a statement indicating that she doesn’t wear fur, and the world should know that in PETA’s eyes, that makes her pretty fabulous.”

A good cause? Perhaps. But we’re not too sure we’d want our faces associated with an ad whose copy sounds like a ladymag coverline, either. Besides, some of us around here like harem pants, but the last thing we want is to inadvertently end up their spokesmodel. [NBC Chicago]

Lady Gaga Shakes Up Things At Polaroid

Lady Gaga Shakes Up Things At Polaroid

Polaroid has joined forces with Lady Gaga to revamp its brand, which is popular with hipsters but not most people in the digital age. The entities will develop a line of “imaging products.” We really have no idea what that means, and Gaga is remaining vague on the subject.

Here’s what she said in a press release:

7 Chic Faux Headboard Ideas

fake headboards

One of my friends says you’re not really an adult unless your bed has a headboard, rather than sitting on the frame that comes free when you bought the mattress. While headboards give bedrooms a more finished look that says, “I don’t live in a dorm room anymore,” they can get freaking expensive. Plus, they’re cumbersome to move if you don’t stay in the same apartment for longer than a year. That’s why a headboard is one of the few things in life we’ll allow you to fake. Click through for seven ideas for creating the illusion of a piece of furniture behind your pillowcases.

Above, Blik’s Nessa Headboard Wall Decal, $40, comes in eight colors, and installing it is as simple as peeling off some backing and slapping the sticker on your wall. If this contemporary frame isn’t your style, they also have a classic wrought iron headboard and a mod circle headboard. [Blik]

Could Moon Boots Become The New Uggs?

moonboots

So, um, Grazia magazine says that moon boots are making a comeback and are the way to stay warm and in fashion: “Think ‘Charlie’s Angels’ meets Christie Brinkley!” OK, at least that style description makes things a little bit more conceivable. Problem is, not everyone is Christie Brinkley, and wearing these contraptions can create that Japanese anime cartoon look where your proportions are all thrown off thanks to huuuuuuge feet.

We remember these boots making a brief appearance among the fashion set in ‘06 or so, and maybe they just couldn’t compete with the Ugg at that point. But now that Uggs are officially fugs, what do you think of moon boots? [Grazia]
