Politico reported that the Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin and her family since she became the party’s vice presidential candidate in late August. This handsome allowance included spending sprees worth $49,425.75 at Saks Fifth Avenue, $75,062.63 at Neiman Marcus, and $4716.40 on hair and makeup. We’re not sure why America’s favorite model hockey mom is spending so much on her wardrobe when she could be shopping for similar styles at strip malls. Below, we show her how to get the same looks for less.
I stopped by the Target in Brooklyn on my way home last night and was surprised to see almost the entire Anya Hindmarch line of bags, because they aren’t supposed to be in stores until October 12. Since I discovered they were available for pre-order online earlier this week, I have been debating which bag to buy—it’s hard to tell what they’ll be like in person from photos online. But now that I’ve seen them, I don’t think I’ll be buying any of them because of one little detail: The buckles all read “Anya Hindmarch for Target.” Now, I know that people would recognize the bag as being from her cheap line for Target. It’s clearly not made of expensive leather. I would have been totally okay with the inside lining having the store name printed on it, which it does, but why does “for Target” have to be stamped onto the metal buckle? I would feel the same way if a designer did a line for Macy’s and it said “for Macy’s” on the outside. Designer logos annoy me enough, and store names or logos just shouldn’t appear on clothing or accessories except on the tag. If Anya Hindmarch was trying to maintain the integrity of her brand by putting the “for Target” on the outside, she probably should have created a new name for her Target line, the way Grey Ant calls their Urban Outfitters offshoot “Grey Antics.”
For those of you still interested in buying one of the bags, some of the bags have the “for Target” written more discretely under the Anya Hindmarch bow logo. Oh, and the store also had a couple pairs of Sigerson Morrison flats. They looked cute and well-made, with no labels in sight. Too bad they didn’t have my size.
I’m not really a flats kind of girl, but these are so chic that I would forgo an extra four inches of height. Purple patent is such an unexpected color for a shoe, but is right on trend for the season. Plus the zipper detail adds a little sumthin’, sumthin’. These would look so hot with a pair of plaid, wide leg trousers, especially if the plaid has a thread of purple. Or they can be worn with a short skirt or dress and stunning hosiery. Don’t worry about having to match the shoes to your bag because coordinating is more important than matching. If purple is not your color, the shoes are also available in dark red patent, black patent and gold snakeskin. [$24.99, Target]
British accessories designer Anya Hindmarch (the woman behind the “I am not a plastic bag” canvas totes) has designed a collection of handbags for Target, and even though they’re technically not available until Oct. 12, Target.com is allowing pre-orders right now. The Anya Hindmarch for Target bags all cost between $19.99 and $49.99 and are made of PVC plastic. While some people might turn their noses up at PVC, I rather like the idea of not having to worry about my bag getting ruined in a downpour. [Target via Fashionista]

We recommend a lot of rad products, clothing designers, and crave-able items on The Frisky. Occasionally, however, we discover that an item was not worthy of our desire or endorsement and we want to take it back. After finally sampling a few of these goods ourselves, we’re totally not craving:
1. Sally Hansen Nail Pen: I finally tried this bad boy and discovered two things: A) A nail PEN is a really good idea and definitely makes polish application easier, but B) the actual polish colors available are heinous (I made the mistake of going for a iridescent opal which was trés old lady), they apply very thin and watery, and they dry extremely matte.
We’ve written about this line before, but Sunday it’s finally here! We have high hopes for this Target collection, despite recent disappointments from Rogan and Jovovich Hawk, mainly because of a few standout items. The colorblock tie dress looks chic for day and night, while the jeweled woven top is an affordable copy of a Chai high-end blouse. Run don’t walk! [$39.99 and $29.99, Target.com]
Ooooh our fingers are already itching to do some online shopping! Nylon revealed some of the looks from Richard Chai’s upcoming collection for Target and we are foaming at the mouth. Seriously, this stuff better not be disappointing in person like Rogan was. Images of all the hot looks, available in August, after the jump, with my commentary. [Nylon]
This Sunday, Rogan’s GO International line hits Target stores. But before you decide you’re going to skip going out on Saturday so you can be first in line on Sunday morning, check out a few of the looks. It seems that Rogan would like to help bring animal prints to the masses. Doesn’t Heidi Montag have that covered? (That being said, I may have to purchase at least one of the plaid numbers. Plaid is my black.)
We didn’t know anything about bras until we got properly fitted. Before that, we had really only ever bought them from places like Kmart, Target, and Filene’s Basement, where no one cares whether you buy the wrong size. And even though we love the lacy bras we bought, we may have been onto something by going for cheap bras (at least for everyday wear). Consumer Reports tested three bras—La Perla Vintage ($127), Victoria’s Secret Ipex Demi ($45), and Gilligan & O’Malley Padded Demi ($11)—and found the $11 bra, available at Target, was the best buy. Not only does it have better cup molding than the Victoria’s Secret bra, but it didn’t pinch or poke and held up better in the wash. [Consumer Reports]
Target is awesome, and not just because they have cheap, cute clothes designed by normally-out-of-our-price-range big names like Jovovich-Hawk and Luella Bartley. They also rule because they don’t screw over their employees in the most evil way possible. Wal-Mart, which, frankly, has some of the worst clothing you could possible buy at a megastore, won a suit against a former employee for $470,000. For what, you may ask? The awful truth, after the jump.
Target’s GO International lines by the likes of Luella Bartley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, etc. sold out before I could get my hands on anything good. I’m going to cross my fingers that that doesn’t happen when this line arrives in mid-April. Unlike the other GO incarnations, this one was created by designers at Target rather than an outside collaborator. But don’t worry, label whores, Target’s not ditching big names. The GO lines designed in-house will be sold in between the designer collections.
