I Wanna Dress Like: Fran Fine From “The Nanny”

Dress Like Fran Drescher In The Nanny

Fran Fine (Fran Drescher) from “The Nanny” was all about bold prints, lot’s of leg, Chanel-inspired clothes and accessories, and showing off her figure. She is, after all, “the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan.” We wouldn’t want you to adopt every look from the ‘90s, but we do think that some of Nanny Fine’s dressing principles could translate for summer 2009—just save the black hose for winter.

Lightweight Jackets For Warmish Weather

lightweight jackets

We’re in that odd mid-seasonal period right before the temperature kicks into high gear. It gets toasty and warm during the day, but as soon as the sun sets, brrr. Since we’re a little sick of cardigans (we wore them every day this winter), we’re going to throw on a light jacket instead. Anoraks look smashing with cute dresses and your choice of shoes.

We’re shedding our winter clothes (and showing some skin) now that the temperature is heating up. Nike Does Gladiator Sandals, And We Like Them

The Nike Gladiator Sandal

If these Nike gladiator sandals were a person, they’d be the middle-school bully who beat up all the wimpy gladiator sandals from last season. They’re the brainchild of Art Center College design student Nancy and were created for Nike’s Remixed and Recut hybrid footwear line for Summer 2009. Hybrid is the perfect word to describe the sandals. They’re perfect for hitting the pavement while shopping or sightseeing, but they could transition to night with the right mini-dress. Sadly, they’re sold out. But if you love them as much as I do, you’ll keep checking Colette in hopes of scoring your pair. [Fashion Indie]

Buggin’ Out: Insect Jewelry And Shoes

Insect Accessories

We’re not exactly bug lovers. We’ll tolerate a ladybug, butterfly, and sometimes even a dragonfly. But we absolutely fell in love with this Ants Necklace by Netherlands designer Ineke Otte. The only problem? We couldn’t find a site where we could purchase it in a language we can read. To satisfy our current insect obsession, we found other cool jewelry that features bugs at their best—dead, fake, or bejeweled.

Fashion Slideshow: The Simplest Canvas Sneakers

    red canvas Vans sneakers

Now and Then is one of those classic girls-coming-of-age movies. Most of the action takes place in the 1970s, so actresses Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Gaby Hoffmann, and Ashleigh Aston Moore got to wear some pretty sweet clothes. (I hope I’m not the only one to think cut-off jean shorts, plaid shirts, and the most basic sneakers ever are awesome.) Exchange your usual flip-flops for canvas sneaks, and channel your favorite of the four girls—I’m a Samantha (Gaby Hoffmann).
