In case the new 90210 and Whitney Houston’s song “Like I Never Left” didn’t already clue you in, we have a shocker—the ‘90s are BACK. Now that the ‘80s are over for the second time around, it’s time for the 1990’s to finally have a resurgence. I, for one, am pleased. Did you tune into Gossip Girl each week for an hour-long fashion fix? Did you ever miss a key plot point because you were daydreaming about Blair Waldorf’s latest Balenciaga handbag? Well…so were the rest of the 2.7 million viewers. Gossip Girl is more than a show about Manhattan’s elite private schools; it’s a cultural phenomenon that has had a great impact on retail trends, making preppy staples like piped blazers and argyle fashionable again. And although the television season has ended (you can watch repeats on The CW Monday nights), we’re sure its ritzy, collegiate style will be showing up in department stores nationwide when the “Back to School” season begins. Now if only there was a definitive answer to: “How old is too old to wear knee-socks and a short pleated skirt?”

This is the week when all the crazy Euro designers unveil their couture collections in Paris. Ninety-percent of the stuff that walks down the runway isn’t wearable by any, you know, normal person, but the garments are still pretty to look at. Yesterday, we posted a debate about whether it sucks or rules to be a bridesmaid. A common complaint is the cost of the dress, which everyone seemed to swear could never be worn again, despite what the bride may think. HA! I hear your skepticism and I challenge it! Just because a dress is long and covers your stems, doesn’t mean it can’t be sexy – after all, leaving something to the imagination can be awfully alluring. Maxi (or long) dresses are all the rage for summer – while the airy skirt still keeps you cool, there’s the added protection from UV rays as a bonus, if you’re worried about that kind of thing. Catherine is – she just spent the weekend at the beach and came home with a nasty, splotchy, and painful burn all over the tops of her shins, so she’ll be living in dresses like these for the rest of the summer.

I have a total thing for Mandy Moore that is not very easily explained. She’s no superstar in any department, though I think she’s a decent actress and singer (frankly, I loved her album of cover songs). But something about her seems nice and smart and she’s definitely stylish, which is why we’ve pulled together a slideshow of some of her hottest looks. BUT while I was doing research, I came across this video, of her covering Rihanna’s “Umbrella”. She does it in a very moody way. I like it. The CFDA Awards are one of those events where only cool, connected people get invited to celebrate designers who make clothes those of us who aren’t invited can’t afford. Sounds like fun! Catherine just bought some awesome sunglasses that she did not include in this slideshow because she didn’t want the entire universe running out and buying them—but we did include our other 10 favorites. I am personally partial to big shades that make me look like an alien, while Catherine goes for something a little edgier. But we both agree that the aqua Ray-Ban Wayfarers are friggin’ hot sauce.

Target’s GO International lines by the likes of Luella Bartley, Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, etc. sold out before I could get my hands on anything good. I’m going to cross my fingers that that doesn’t happen when this line arrives in mid-April. Unlike the other GO incarnations, this one was created by designers at Target rather than an outside collaborator. But don’t worry, label whores, Target’s not ditching big names. The GO lines designed in-house will be sold in between the designer collections.
