Vivienne Westwood Wants To Write The “Sex And The City” Sequel

Vivienne Westwood Wants To Write The Sex And The City Sequel

Vivienne Westwood, the British fashion designer who created the wedding dress Sarah Jessica Parker wore in the “Sex and the City” movie, hated the film and thinks she can write a better one. The 67-year-old, who walked out of the premiere after ten minutes, has asked SJP to let her write the plot for the sequel. No word yet whether she’ll be taken up on her offer, but we can’t help wondering what Michael Patrick King, writer and director of “Sex and the City,” thinks about it…not to mention stylist Patricia Field, whose designs for the movie Westwood publicly criticized. “I thought ‘Sex And The City’ was supposed to be about cutting-edge fashion,” she said after the film was released, “and there was nothing remotely memorable or interesting about what I saw.”

So what do you guys think? If Vivienne Westwood writes the sequel, will “Sex and the City” be better than ever? Do you even care what the plot is, or are you happy just seeing the girls again and all the great fashion? [Telegraph.co.uk via NYMag]

Carrie Bradshaw Is Dead

SATC

Once upon a time, Carrie Bradshaw was a role model for women across America, and “Sex and the City” promised a Manolos and men-filled life. Even after the show was canceled, it lived on in reruns, and the movie version brought lady viewers back in droves. Now, though, the recession promises to finally put to bed women’s “Sex and the City” pipe dreams, or so says Vanity Fair, when one male writer takes a ride on the “SATC” bus tour. From a sad visit to the sex shop where Charlotte bought her Rabbit vibrator to the Magnolia Bakery cupcake-eating gaggle of female tourists who ragingly recount every single episode, some women are still desperately trying to hold on to “Sex and the City” escapism, instead of sinking into the reality of the great 21st century depression. By the end of the tour of this female fantasyland that never really existed: “We all realize what an obsessively ridiculous, embarrassing, empty, and needy exercise this has been.” Us, too. What We Want Out Of The “Sex And The City” Movie Sequel

Sex And The City Movie Sequel

The “Sex and the City” movie sequel is all but confirmed—Kim Cattrall says it’s on, Sarah Jessica Parker says a few details still need to be ironed out, but given the success of the first film this summer, I don’t think we’ll be able to avoid another Carrie & Co. chick flick fest. So what do we want out of round two? Entertainment Weekly had their own ideas and, sorry, we were a little bored. Miranda a PTA mom? No thanks. Our brilliant plot line suggestions, after the jump…

Crave: Sex And The City: The Movie

Sex and the City Movie DVD

It’s only been a few months since the “Sex and the City” movie premiered, but we’re just about ready for a run-in with our four best friends. So we’re really stoked that the movie is available on DVD and Blu-ray TODAY! As you know, the clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories were all fabulous in the movie, but what’s so great about SATC is that it always gives us a little clarity about our real lives, even if the dialogue is a tad cheesy. Put on your favorite Louboutins or Manolos or some other killer, knock-off FMPs and watch 2008’s best/worst chick flick. In case you can’t wait to see the movie again, check out the trailer after the jump. [$19.95, Warner Bros.]

Kristin Davis’ Clothing Line Is Very “Charlotte”

    Kristin Davis

We were a little surprised when we heard that Kristin Davis had decided to get into the fashion business, putting her name on a line of clothes for department store chain Belk. What would her line look like? Would there be pearls? Now we know the answer: No pearls; however, there are plenty of ladylike styles, and lots of bows. While we think $108 is a little expensive for a polyester shift dress, the Kristin Davis Collection might satiate your appetite for celebrity-branded clothes, especially if you missed out on picking up the best pieces from Rachel Bilson’s Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans. If not, Eva Mendes’ line of bedding, Vida, is coming to Macy’s any time now. We’re gonna take a wild guess that her sex life is pretty enviable, and here’s to hoping that a set of her sheets will emit some of her sexual energy into our bedroom.

Is A Sex And The City Prequel Too Much Of A Good Thing?

    Candice Bushnell

Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell is penning two teen novels about Carrie Bradshaw’s adolescence. As a “Sex and the City” fanatic and Carrie-phile, I’m know I’m excited. I’m a 22-year-old who watched SATC as a teen, and I can tell you adults really underestimate the sexual knowledge of teenagers. But is this prequel idea too much of a good thing? Some think the movie went too far already. Has Carrie jumped the shark? Bushnell’s backtracking to the girls’ adolescent years could lead to SATC overload. For now, I’m torn, but either way I’m willing to bet I’ll be looking for the The Carrie Diaries in 2010, when I’ll be a 25-year-old reading a book about teens.

We See Chick Flicks: The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

When I went to the theater last night to see the second installment of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I expected the movie to warm my heart and make me wish I was young again, with a close group of attractive friends. I thought it would be cute. I thought it would be cheesy. I did not think that there would be hot guys taking their shirts off.

Friendship Groups Work In Films But Not In Reality

    Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was released in theaters today, and this time around the women have been apart all year, but their summer plans will keep them separated. According to the film’s website, “Now it will take more than a hurried note…or even a treasured pair of pants passed back and forth among them to keep their lives connected.” But this got me thinking…Do friendship groups like The Sisterhood and Sex and the City, in which all the friends get along and are connected equally, exist in reality? In my experience, the answer is a resounding, “No.”

    The Washingtonienne Comes To HBO

    The Washingtonienne

Did you guys ever read the book The Washingtonienne? I didn’t, because I listened to the book on tape. Anyway, The Washingtonienne was a book based on the anonymous blog written by Washington, D.C. political aide, Jessica Cutler a few years back, which detailed her sexual exploits with various high-powered political types (lots of times for money and gifts), including a state Representative or something. Anyway, it was slutty and juicy and had lots of sex in it, including anal. So yeah! HBO has green-lit a pilot! Produced by Sarah Jessica Parker! Which means it will totally be a DC-based Sex And The City rip-off only with more butt sex. Can’t wait. [Variety and Amazon]

    The Daily Hotness: Gilles Marini

    Gilles Marini

Did you see that movie? You know the guy who lives next to Samantha and has tons of sex? Well, not only is he quite attractive, but he also seems like a really hardworking family guy. The 32-year-old French actor Gilles Marini has been inundated with phone calls, emails, and job offers since the movie (and his goods) premiered, but he sounds so nice! “I just was not expecting this at all,” he told Reuters. “Maybe people will see me as the naked guy for a bit but as soon as someone gives me a chance to do something else I can prove I can do that. “I am not 18 years-old with this smacking me in the face so that I lose control of what I am. It is a blessing. I am very humbled and touched by all the attention. It is wonderful for my life, for my family and for my future.” Also, if you’re logged into MySpace, you can view this sepia-tone photo of him with Johnny Depp on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Christina Aguilera As Samantha Jones: “Ladies, I’m A Dude…”

This is sort of an old clip, from an episode of Saturday Night Live around the time that Sex and the City went off the air, but I was out to dinner with friends last night and a huge group of them hadn’t seen it—and neither had our Catherine. In the clip, which I swear is one of the best in SNL‘s history, Christina Aguilera does a dead-on impression of SATC‘s Samantha. Girlfriend could be an actress, I swear.

    White Lies In That Movie

    New York Public Library

Movies are mostly made up, unless they’re documentaries. Certainly, some are “historical fiction” and include references to real places and events, but really, even if a movie isn’t an historical one, like Saving Private Ryan or something, it’s annoying when details aren’t quite right. For example, in Sex and the City, Carrie reads a book called Love Letters from Great Men, and it’s not even as though you would only know the title if you paused the DVD. She says the title out loud, maybe even several times, and the book doesn’t even exist. The nice folks at the New York Public Library did put together a list of similar options, though. Speaking of the library, it seems that you can’t really get married there. The reception could be held there, but not the ceremony. And even that would cost at least $50,000. [AP, NY Post, NYPL]
