Rihanna, who was born and raised in Barbados, came onto the music scene in 2005 with her hit “Pon De Replay.” She’s released other songs such as “SOS” and “Unfaithful,” but Rihanna’s popularity took off with the release of her third and most successful album. Good Girl Gone Bad produced eight hits including “Umbrella,” “Please Don’t Stop The Music,” and “Take a Bow.” She also created a line of umbrellas after the popularity of her hit song. She has plans to work on a fourth album this year. Her musical influences include Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Beyonce. Rihanna is the cultural ambassador to her country. In 2006, Rihanna created a charity organization, Believe, which is dedicated to providing medical services, school supposed and toys to children in need. She’s also signed on to endorse a variety of companies including Venus Gillette, Secret and Cover Girl.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are reportedly donezo. Though nothing has been officially confirmed and the couple was seen together earlier this week, it would be a slightly shocking breakup, mostly for the alleged claim that Rihanna is JT’s other woman. After three years of on-again, off-again for Jessica and Justin, all it took was some sightings with the feisty singer to launch a truckload of rumors. Earlier this month Chris Brown taped an interview with Larry King that’s set to air this Wednesday. In an exclusive preview, Brown says he “doesn’t remember” hitting Rihanna, that’s not who “I pride myself on being,” and that he’s “in shock.” Uh-huh.
Go figure. Chris Brown‘s new single, “Changed Man,” is dedicated to Rihanna, and it certainly sounds like a plea to get her back, no? Some sample lyrics for your perusal: “I remember your touch/ God, I miss you so much/ Please believe me baby I’m sorry/ All of this money and fame/ Could never amount to every morning waking up to your face/ I’ll make it up to you/ I’ll show the world I’m a changed man/ Can we love, Can we love, Can we love again.” We’re hoping this doesn’t sway Rihanna. These sentiments seem kind of canned, plus he doesn’t sound that tortured singing.
Um, no this is not Rihanna, but these are the insane studded pair of stunners she’s all about in the new “Run This Town” video by Jay-Z and featuring Kanye West. Sigh. The Feb. 8th incident when Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna was not the first violent argument between the couple. Before his sentencing yesterday, Brown’s probation officer filed a report revealing the couple was involved in two other incidents “related to domestic violence”—and come to find out, Rihanna has slapped Brown in the past. Obviously that does not make the intensity of his brutal Feb. 8 assault excusable, but it sheds light on how they had a more violent relationship than we previously thought.
Boyfriend of the Year Chris Brown is getting his slap on the wrist in a L.A. courtroom today and then appearing on “Larry King Live” (reportedly after Oprah’s camp said “No way, Jose” to his sorry ass). Brown’s schedule is so free, you see, because he isn’t doing any jail time for beating the crap out of his girlfriend.
Yesterday, Catherine polled readers about this odd see-through shirt trend (and according to the results, over half of you are anti-), but what we failed to mention is that Rihanna is not only the ringleader of this scary mid-‘90’s throwback, she’s by far the most in your face about it as well. Witness this handy montage of Nippies that she shamelessly paraded all over downtown New York. Moving on to a more personal note, unless you travel with an entourage and bodyguards and need to wear crazy getups to get in the tabloids because that’s part of the fame game (mouthful!), I am not feeling this look for real life. However! Must confess here and now that I love the plain, flesh-colored Nippies and I wear them all the freakin’ time with tank tops and strapless dresses and low v-necks and backless-es and everything but see-through shirts. Anyone else actually try them? Or actually like the look of glitter pasties underneath a $5,000 mesh top? Discuss!
