Join The Impact: Protest For Equal Rights This Saturday!

JoinTheImpact.com

From celebs like Drew Barrymore and Melissa Etheridge, to we humble Frisky gals,  many people have been speaking out against the handful of discriminatory marriage and adoption laws that passed in states across the country that block homosexuals from having the same rights as their straight counterparts. In Los Angeles, a large crowd took to the streets to protest Prop 8 last Wednesday and attracted a lot of attention.  But the movement to equalize marriage for everyone, despite sexual orientation, is just getting started! So how can you show the world your support for gay rights?  This Saturday, a group called Join the Impact, has organized peaceful protests in cities all across the country. To take part in this nationwide rally, simply visit their website to find the gathering nearest you. [Join the Impact]

Most Surprising Kindred Spirit
Astrosexologist Kiki T from “Is Cindy McCain Cheating On Her Maverick?”
We Frisky gals love trampy pill poppers, but sometimes we’re even surprised by who can inspire us:

“Wow, that Cindy is wild. Between her pill popping and now an affair with an ‘80s washed up rock star, I’m beginning to like her!”

Yeah, Cindy McCain probably masturbates to hair metal ballads too!  Can’t you just hear John asking her to turn the volume on that rock ‘n’ roll racket down?

The Protesting Of Proposition 8

Proposition 8 & Gay Marriage Bans Protests

The passing of Prop 8, which bans gay marriage in the State of California, has been causing a riot on The Frisky, but that’s nothing compared to what been going on in the streets and in the gay community.  Borrowing chants from the Civil Rights movement, homosexuals have rallied together this week to fight for their rights to have families.

Thoughts From Gays On My IM: Proposition 8 & Gay Marriage Bans

Proposition 8 & Gay Marriage Bans

I’m still really pissed that Proposition 8 and all the other gay marriage bans passed on Election Day. And if I’m pissed, guess who’s more pissed? Gay people, who’ve just been told for the zillionth time that they deserve less than straight Americans. I chatted up a few of my gay pals on IM today, to find out how they’re reacting to the news.

Marriage Under Attack!

Gay Marriage Controversy

One of the biggest defenses used by people who are not in favor of gay marriage—even from those who don’t oppose civil unions or other gay rights issues—is that marriage is an institution that’s founded on connecting mothers and fathers to their children. Writes Jennifer Roback Morse for the National Review, in her article “8 Is Not Hate”:

“I view marriage as a gender-based institution that attaches mothers and fathers to each other and to their children. Those of us who support Proposition 8 believe that children deserve at least the chance to have a relationship with a mom and a dad. That isn’t hateful toward anyone.”

Righty-o! Using “the children” as a shield for bigotry seems like shifty parenting to me, but whatevs. When the divorce rate is at 50% in this country, marriage is already under attack—by straight people!

Marriage: Who Should Really Be Banned

Marriages That Should Be Banned

Last night, I went to bed proud to be an American! But this afternoon, other issues on the ballot, like Proposition 8, made me extra blue, and not in the cool way. Sadly, some of our fellow Americans in California, Arizona, and Florida think they have the right to discriminate against homosexual love and ban an entire community from marrying. WTF?  Did you people not see how adorable the Portia and Ellen wedding pics were?! Well, looking at heterosexual divorce rates, perhaps marriage itself is the lost cause.  So, if America can’t support a partnership based on love, whose relationships should we really be concerned about? Why Does America Still Hate The Idea Of Gay People Getting Married?

Gay Marriage Bans

Last night was absolutely historical and I’m not going to hide my glee. Americans came out in record numbers and voted for a significant change in the White House and in Washington, with quite a few states (Ohio and Florida among them) going blue over their traditional red. As Barack Obama said last night, “That is the true genius of America—that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.” Unfortunately, while there’s much to proud of today, regardless of whether you voted for Obama, there’s also a few disappointments. It appears that all but one of the gay marriage bans have passed, including, probably, Proposition 8 in California. Really America? We’re still that scared of gay people eating wedding cake? Really?

Star Couplings: Brad Pitt Hearts Gay Rights

Brad Pitt

  • Brad Pitt has expanded his resume to include “gay activist.” He just donated $100,000 to the anti-Proposition 8 campaign. Prop. 8 would ban gay marriage in California and make the unions constitutionally illegal. Go, Brad! [Perez Hilton]
