Project Runway: Welcome To The “Jungle” Of Teamwork

BravoTV.com
We’re Not In Love [From Left]: Kelli and Daniel’s Hussy Loves Dolce & Gabbana Ensemble; Blayne and Leanne’s I Heart Old Navy Look; Terri and Suede’s Boring Boho-Chic Outfit.

Last night on Project Runway the designers had to create a work outfit that could transition to night for Brooke Shields’s character on Lipstick Jungle. Besides receiving immunity for the next challenge, the winning designer would also have the ultimate prize of Shields wearing the outfit during season two of Lipstick Jungle. They had 30 minutes to sketch and then Shields picked six designers from the remaining 12 to head up a team of two.

Project Runway: I Heart Blayne & The Retro Olympics

I give up. I totally have given into Blayne and have decided that he’s as lovable and funny as a puppy that’s just learning how to walk, but occasionally has accidents in your apartment that make you hate him for a couple minutes. Maybe it’s that we both have an addiction to being tan, though I gave up the booth years ago in favor laying out on my roof deck and slathering on bottled self-tanner. (May I recommend, by the way, that Blayne use a bronzer for African-American women in between tanning booth sessions? It’s my secret.) In any case, Blayne is just one of the many Project Runway contestants this season that seems to be competing to coin the show’s next catchphrase rather than to win the title of Top Designer—after all, “fierce hot tranny mess” is worn the hell out, and Blayne’s “holla atcha boy” is desperate to take its place. While we’re not convinced it’s bankable enough, it’s certainly better than Suede’s desire to make his own name—spoken constantly in third person—the next big utterance on reality TV. Amelia does not like Suede, she does not like Suede at all.

NYC Night Inspires Project Runway Designers

Project Runway Worst Looks
Designs We Hated [From Left} Haven’t we seen Stella’s rock-and-roll look before in, like, every rock video from the ‘90s?; Keith’s toilet paper in a windstorm dress—should have used gray fabric, bud; Jennifer’s matronly Forever 21 creation.

On Wednesday’s episode of Project Runway the designers were challenged to use New York City as their muse for a nighttime look. And Tim Gunn took them to Mood Fabric to shop for themselves, finally. This challenge like the first one is not original. It’s was done in a previous season. The designers were whisked-off in true tourist fashion on a double-decker bus to various neighborhoods in Manhattan, where they photographed their inspiration.

Project Runway: Why Don’t We Hate Tim Gunn Yet?

Every reality show has a breakout star—Lo or Whitney on The Hills, Nicole Richie on The Simple Life, etc.—but usually that star has a fall from grace, once everyone has tired of his or her eccentricities. Just look at Christian Siriano—even we’re sick of saying “fierce” all the tme. But this is not the case with fellow Project Runway star Tim Gunn. I don’t think anyone expected Tim to become the show’s most beloved cast member, least of all Tim, but five seasons in, how is it that we still love him so freaking much?! Check out the clip from Wednesday’s episode above. We want to smack Blayne, but Tim is just adorable as always. He’s so stylish and handsome and cultured, yet he reminds me so much of my grandma when he says, “Holla atcha boy!”

Project Runway Designers Demonstrate Why More Clothes Aren’t Green

    Suede's winning Project Runway design
From left: Jerrell’s monstrosity; Why the heck did Joe cut a circle out of the front of his dress and put a crystal border around the hole?; Kelli had a vision for her dress—it just wasn’t a good one. [Photos: Bravo]

On last night’s episode of Project Runway (I’m sorry if you missed it because I told you it was on at 10pm, rather than 9pm—here’s the recap), the contestants had to create cocktail dresses out of eco-friendly fabrics selected by their models. For some reason, the silk/hemp blend that was popular with many of the models seems to come in just two colors, an ugly bronze and a slightly cheap-looking pale good. Apparently, it was very difficult to manipulate—I have never seen hemlines so crooked. Guest judge Natalie Portman was as ladylike as ever, always saying something good about the design before giving her criticisms, and in the end, Suede’s innovative criss-crossing of fabrics won her over. Heidi Klum even said she’s wear the dress if she were 10 years younger. Heidi, you don’t need to shave off 10 years to wear this dress. To see our favorite designs, keep reading…

Christian Siriano’s Bluefly Collection: Fierce In A Bad Way

    Christian Siriano for Bluefly

Christian Siriano, last season’s “fierce” winner of Project Runway, is everywhere these days. He’s designed prom dresses for avatars and small collections for Puma, and he’s gearing up to show at New York Fashion week come September. Yesterday, his nine-piece collection for Bluefly, which was part of the PR prize package, went up on the site. For some reason, you can’t buy any of his clothes yet—either that, or they sold out in a day. (They all have a note that says “We’re sorry, this item is not available” next to them.) But as much as I love Christian and all of his hot tranny mess-iness, I don’t think I’d spend almost $400 on this jacket. More photos after the jump… [NY Times, Bluefly]

The Ins And Outs Of Project Runway

    Natalie Portman on Project Runway

While watching Project Runway‘s season premiere and the promo videos for tonight’s episode, we noticed that some of the contestants (and Heidi) have awesome personal style. Others, on the other hand, have questionable style. Now, this doesn’t mean the clothes they design are awful, but I think it does say something about a designer when he sports a rattail. After the jump, we judge Project Runway‘s style…

    It’s Evolution, Baby

    Blue-footed Booby

Some may say that going from super stylish clothes to sweatpants is a downward progression. But maybe it’s actually an upwards one. Coiffed city gal Laura, from Project Runway Season 3, may have feared being a sloppily dressed mom, but it turns out evolution has already put plenty of females in the animal kingdom into nature’s “sweats.”  While many female animals have the less showy appearance of their species, oddly enough, the males tend to get the fancy dress—like mallard ducks with their bright emerald feathers. Darwin thought that over time the boys had developed those traits to attract the girls, like glam rockers that use guyliner

    Where is Chloe Dao Now?

After each season’s finale, you only hear bits and pieces about what former Runway contestants are doing, even past winners. But pretty soon Chloe Dao is going to blow up. In the near future her designs will be sold at stores around the country, not just at Lot8 in Texas, and right now you can buy a bunch of her designs for cheap on QVC.

    The Daily Hotness: Victoria Beckham

    Victoria Beckham

Whoa, how much do we love Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham? As the guest judge on last night’s season finale of Project Runway she showed off her wit and charm as well as her impeccable style and taste during her critique of the designers’ final collections. She even cracked a smile, which she noted, “Is not easy for me to do.” But when we were left with a desperate need for more Posh after the episode was over, we were super psyched to discover that the pop and fashion icon is in talks to host her own reality show, tentatively titled Fashion Nightmares on Fox, in which she’ll travel around the U.S. helping people with dismal fashion sense. Our Tivo is already set.

    The Daily Hotness: Christian Siriano

Tonight is the finale of Project Runway Season Four, and while our heart belongs to contestant Chris March, we’re gonna go out on a limb and say that Christian Siriano will take home the prize as the winning designer. Christian may have worn out the term “fierce” over the course of the season, but he has seriously ruled the runway with his innovative designs. Sure, we’re not exactly his “type”, but we’d love to have him as our gay BFF, especially if he let us borrow his mega-watt flat iron. Check out his fiercest moments here. [Bravo TV]
