Big Things Are Going On For Korto Momolu

KortoMomolu.com

Korto Momolu, who placed second during season five of “Project Runway,” showed during New York Fashion Week for the first time since appearing on the competition show and launched an accessories collection for Dillard’s on the same day. Her fall 2010 collection featured statement coats, updated cowl necks, and beautiful knits. (See the collection here.) Korto says she began designing the impressive collection after Thanksgiving, which is late for most designers. Her accessories line for Dillard’s, which features jewelry and handbags, is as exciting as her clothing. I’m especially loving the Horn Handle Hobo Bag and the Twisted Hoop Earrings. Korto designs another jewelry line as well, The Saba Collection, which is a collaboration with Madera Exotic woods to produce eco-friendly polished wood jewelry. The wood she uses actually resembles stones. It seems her loss on “Project Runway” and sheer determination have propelled Korto to realize her dream fashion career. [Essence, Korto Momolu]

What’s In Leanne Marshall’s Closet?

Leanne Marshall

You remember the quiet but determined Leanne Marshall, who went on to win Season 5 of “Project Runway”? She wowed the judges with her precious designs, proving that vintage styles and airy pieces are exactly what women want to wear. A few seasons after her spotlight moment, she allowed Time Out New York to visit her DUMBO apartment and take pictures of her (well-organized) closet, which, unsurprisingly, holds many vintage pieces, Portland fashion finds, a locket from her boyfriend, and, of course, her own creations. It’s a peek into the designer’s personal style sensibility, and you’ll find a list of her favorite stores in New York City: Kaight, where she sells her line, Urban Outfitters, and Something Else, to name a few. Plus, you can check out her shoe collection. The tour wouldn’t be complete without a bit of “Project Runway” in the mix; her closet is decorated with a Tim Gunn bobble head. [Time Out New York]

Nina Garcia Go Boom!

Nina Garcia Falls at New York Fashion Week

Why is “Project Runway” judge Nina Garcia sprawled on the sidewalk outside the Bryant Park tents at New York Fashion Week?

A) Tim Gunn turned into a tiny man, and she is trying to find him before he falls into a storm drain.
B) She saw a penny on the ground and is picking it up because that could be her lucky penny!!!!
C) It was icy. “Oh, sheesh,” she said, as every “Project Runway” loser within eye shot snickered.

6 Challenges We’d Really Like To See On “Project Runway”

Project Runway designer

Project Runway” returned this week with a typical cast of over-dramatic characters trotting pretty little dresses (and some hot messes) down the runway. We like sweet frocks as much as the next girl, but there are a few challenges we’d much rather see this season on “PR.” Personally, I’m rooting for a challenge that involves dresses made of pastries and culminates in an eating contest for the models where the first girl to finish eating her garment without passing out wins. For those of you who don’t quite see the connection between fashion shows and eating contests, more possibilities after the jump.

“Project Runway” Season 7 Trailer Is Here!

A new season of “Project Runway” already? Didn’t the last season just end, like, last week?  I guess the calendar got really screwed up with that Bravo vs. Lifetime fight over the show.

Anyway, here’s the season 7 trailer, starring my dream boyfriend Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, and the ever-irascible Nina Garcia. This crop of designers looks hella fun—and hopefully this season, no one (cough Irina cough) will be ripping ideas off New York magazine. [The Hollywood Reporter]

“Project Runway” Returns For Season 7

Project Runway Returns For Its Seventh Season

“Launch My Line” not satisfying your “Project Runway” jones? Good thing PR will make a speedy return on Jan. 14 on Lifetime. And this time around the designers will be back in NYC, where they should be, instead of L.A. The 16 designers will compete for $100,000 to launch their line and a spread in Marie Claire. I think this is the most diverse cast to date. There are competitors hailing from the Ivory Coast, Dominican Republic, the Philippines, China, and Mexico. And, of course, our favorite mentor Tim Gunn will be back, as well as Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, and Nina Garcia. And in case you’re sick of “America’s Next Top Model” re-runs, “Models of the Runway” will air immediately following “Project Runway.” [People]

It Pays To Be The Mean Girl On “Project Runway”

irina Wins Project Runway

Did you watch last night’s season finale of “Project Runway”? Yeah, I didn’t think so. I’ve been putting off writing about it all day because, well, it was kind of boring. With Carol Hannah, Althea, and Irina competing, it seemed pretty clear that too-cool-for-school Irina was going to take the crown, despite maybe having knocked off her T-shirt from New York Magazine The preview for the episode tried to make it sound interesting by amping up a minor freak-out moment that Tim Gunn had backstage, worrying why everyone wasn’t lined up to get the show started on time. Carol Hannah dealt with her stomach bug. Irina half-accused Althea of stealing one of her ideas. Althea rolled her eyes. As the three women showed their collections, there were definitely some nice things, but, honestly, the only real highlight was seeing Jaslene from “America’s Next Top Model” stomping her bad self down the runway. In the end, Irina won. And it was touching seeing her Eastern European dad, who she’s said multiple times doesn’t think that a woman can make it as a fashion designer, get teary over her success. But all I can say is, I hope next season they figure out how to wake this sleepy series up.

“Project Runway” Controversy: Did Irina Rip Off New York Magazine?

Did Irina Rip Off New York Magazine?

On last week’s episode of “Project Runway,” resident mean girl Irina Shabayeva was called out for using trademarked images of Coney Island on the silk-screened tees she was planning to show at Bryant Park. Tim Gunn handed down the word from the lawyers and Irina had to soldier on, making new, original tees to keep her New York theme. But Project Rungay bloggers Tom and Lorenzo think the revamped shirt, emblazoned with reasons to love New York, is no better. They’re pretty sure she lifted the phrases on the shirt from New York magazine’s annual “Reasons to Love New York” issue. Phrases like “Because Robert Moses would have a coronary if he could see our streets now” and “Because people will still do crazy things to live here” seem cribbed directly from the issue.

Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch This Week

Season finale of

It’s a big, big week for season finales, folks. First, see the toodle-oo to cycle 13 of “America’s Next Top Model,” i.e., the shorty season. Next, find out who’s in and who’s out with the conclusion of “Project Runway.” And finally, get ready for the culmination of the “Seinfeld” reunion on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” But don’t be sad. You know what they say ... every new beginning comes from another beginning’s end.

The “Project Runway” Final 3 Are All Chicks

Project Runway final three

Project Runway” has been a little off this season, with the exception of amazing guest judges like Christina Aguilera and Milla Jovovich. Is the show’s formula feeling stale the sixth time around? Did the move to Lifetime ruin it? Or is this just the lamest cast ever? Last night, the five contestants were taken to the Getty Center and had to pick a piece of inspiration to base their garment on. Wait, that sounds familiar—didn’t they do that with the Metropolitan Museum of Art a season or two ago?

Top 10 Hottest Contestants On Reality TV

Logan from Project Runway

Straight hottie fashion designer Logan got booted off “Project Runway” last week. And with the pretty boy gone, I’m wondering if there’s any reason to still watch. Like I need to listen to another week of Irina’s ego-maniacal monologues! As if. Well, I guess Heidi Klum is right: One week you’re in, the next week, you’re out. Auf wiedersehen, “Project Runway,” from my DVR cue. Sigh.

Over the years I’ve had my heart broken so many times watching fine-ass reality TV contestants get eliminated. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing that those shows don’t last forever. Why don’t we take a stroll down memory lane together and check out all the sweet-lookin’ eye candy we’ve watched battle it out for our amusement?

Christina Aguilera Gets The Opposite Of Dirrty On “Project Runway”

Where do starlets go when their career needs a boost? Apparently, “Project Runway.” Lindsay Lohan appeared as a guest judge on the show earlier in the season, and last night Christina Aguilera took her turn. Seeing her on the episode, sporting some serious bangs, reminded me why she’s been the pop star who’s totally fallen off the radar, even though she has the best voice. The girl is too darn nice!

“Project Runway”: Reality Show Or Garnier Product Pusher?

pic of Project Runway Garnier challenge

OK, “Project Runway,” we get it. Viewers own TiVos and fast-forward through commercials, so advertisers want products plugged in the show instead. We understand. But last night’s “Project Runway” went too far! Designers have always sent their models to the L’Oreal hair and makeup room and the Garnier hair salon and that’s fine. But we never had the name of the products shoved down our throats quite like this before. “Project Runway” titled the task of creating a beach look for surfer girls the “Garnier Challenge” and a Garnier hairdresser told the designers how important hair will be to complete their look on the runway. Tim Gunn, no doubt rolling his eyes inside, mentioned several times how the models needed to head to the Garnier hair studio, where the Garnier hairdresser got more screen time and showed all of Garnier’s green products in the background. Then the Garnier hairdresser made a comment before a couple commercial breaks, which led with Garnier products. I had to stop myself from shrieking at the screen, “I buy Garnier shampoo, conditioner, and frizz-ease, OK?! I swear! Leave me alone!” Seriously, “Project Runway,” don’t do that s**t again. Or at least try to slip product placement in and trick us.

You’re OUT: Five Reasons Why “Project Runway” Is Over

Five Reasons Why Project Runway Is Over

Daniel Vosovic, “Project Runway” season 2 runner-up and “All-Stars” winner, tells NYMag.com’s “The Cut” that being on “PR” again was a “mind f**k.” He goes on to explain, “It felt like a weird summer camp. Four years later everything was the same — same stage, same crappy lights, Heidi’s pregnant again. It’s like I had never left.” That may be true of the “All-Stars” reunion (which aired last week)—which brought together some of the show’s biggest personalities and best designers—but the new season of “PR” is rapidly proving it’s not the same fabulous, edgy, and fashion-forward show now that it lives on Lifetime.

I’m just gonna say it. “Project Runway”—you’re OUT. Here are five reasons why.

LiLo Comes Face-To-Face With SamRo Look-A-Like On Project Runway Premiere

So I don’t get in trouble for posting about this, gasp, 11 hours after the episode aired, SPOILERS AHEAD. Got that?

OK. So, last night was the premiere of “Project Runway” on Lifetime, which Jessica liveblogged. Personally, I was slightly underwhelmed. None of the designers stood out to me yet, except one, but not because of her design talents. Ari Fish is a straight-up Samantha Ronson doppelganger, which became somewhat awkward when it was revealed that Lindsay Lohan was the guest judge. Did Ari’s resemblance to Lohan’s on/off girlfriend help or hurt her? Find out, after the jump…
