This week, The Frisky will be revealing their oh-so-ambitious resolutions for 2009. We encourage you to submit yours in the comments—maybe you’ll inspire others to adapt the same resolutions and at the very least you’ll get some support. Especially for your resolution to eat more donuts this year. That’s something we can all get behind. Amelia will start…

1. Commit to going to yoga three times a week: And at the very least, getting into headstand. Forearm stand, I will tackle you in 2010. Handstand, see you in 2011.
2. Introduce myself to new music: And go to see more bands play live. I used to love doing this, but have stopped going on a regular basis. And I need some Ladyhawke and Little Joy to balance out all the Beyonce and Britney.
3. Curb bad behaviors: My bad behaviors are drinking too much wine and then eating copious amounts of mac ‘n’ cheese while sending regrettable Facebook messages. Must stop this in 2009.

We’re happy that Britney Spears seems to be on the road to recovery, and that her new album is doing well and holds the number one spot on the Billboard 200. So, hooray for Britney! Too bad we like Lily Allen’s ragtime-y version of “Womanizer” better. Check it out after the jump. [Stereogum]

Sure, we loved listening to Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” and Rihanna’s “Disturbia,” but there were a lot of great albums that didn’t get any radio airtime or Grammy nominations. Below, some of my favorite albums that were released this year.

With Guy Ritchie and Madonna making their divorce plans official, you know that ho (as always) is going to turn to music to get her through it. Since she’s supposedly has A-rod waiting in the wings, her recovery period will probably only last a couple pop songs. Luckily, Madge won’t even have to search for tunes to express how she feels, since she already sings them!  So here is our suggestions for Madonna’s Break Up Playlist featuring songs by Madonna.

This song from 1988 (during her marriage to Sean Penn) is all about a wife wishing her husband loved her more. Sigh, unlike the empowering hit on this record, “Express Yourself,”  which encourages a woman with “don’t go for second best, baby!” This song, a mere 2 tracks down, has the woman going back to her blasé husband.  Is there still a future for Madonna and Guy? Or will Madonna follow her own advice and “do much better baby on your own?”

True friends understand you best and offer a solution or just a strong shoulder when life is at its worst. And they’re usually the first to celebrate with you when life is wonderful. But unfortunately, most songs are about trials of the heart not friendship. So we put together a list of our favorite friendship songs. After reading through the lyrics, call up your best homegirl and let us know in the comments which songs remind you of her.

While I am on this “break” with the man friend (it remains unclear how long this break will last, FYI), I’ve sworn off certain movies, TV shows, and songs out of fear that they’ll make me depressed. A friend of mine went through a breakup recently and all she did was listen to Morrissey, but wallowing is not really my heartbreak style. I like avoidance and denial. Obviously, I can’t avoid these aspects of pop culture forever and will need to work them gradually back into my life, but for now, there will be no “General Hospital”, or Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend”, or Reese Witherspoon movies. Girl Talk is a DJ with a misleading name—there’s nothing feminine or cutesy about him. He does, however, happen to be a handsome lad by the name of Gregg Gillis. Gillis’ songs are no less than genius. He manages to sample dozens of artists in a single track. On his latest album, “Feed the Animals”, you can hear Phil Collins mixed with Busta Rhymes and The Police in a way that first blows your mind and then makes you want to dance. We’ve had a bit of a crush on Gregg for the past few years, and his playlist (after the jump) gives us a ray of hope that there’s still a 2 percent chance that we’ll get married.

For most, the onset of puberty is coupled with an obsession with sex. From that point on, it’s all about the V-Card. How are you gonna lose it? Who will be your lucky swiper? Raphael Saadiq The Way I See It This soul brother’s tracks will make you swear his retro-record was recorded back in the day. The latest from a former member of 80’s R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné!, Saadiq’s put-you-in-the-mood grooves makes this one of the sexiest solo albums of the year.

• Jessica Simpson Do You Know Simpson’s new country record, Do You Know, begs the questions, do you care?  The change in sound from pop to her Texas roots is supposed to be a fresh new image for this bottle blonde, but she still sounds ready made.

A study of more than 36,000 people from around the world found that musical tastes and personality type are closely related. Professor Adrian North of Henriot-Watt University found that classical music fans were shy, while heavy metal lovers were gentle and at ease with themselves (the first finding makes sense, the second is puzzling). “The general public has held a stereotype of heavy metal fans being suicidally depressed and of being a danger to themselves and society in general. But they are quite delicate things,” North said. So, maybe it’s the pop music lovers who are the scary ones—the study found that they are “not creative” and “not at ease” but have “high self-esteem.” Personally, I’m a little hurt that indie music lovers are said to be “not hard working.” [BBC]

Politicians aren’t exactly known for having musical taste, but you would expect the people who throw big events like, I dunno, the Democratic National Convention, would do a better job of picking cool music to introduce some of their most important speakers. That’s why it struck me as an odd choice to have Hillary Clinton walk onto the stage two nights ago to the blaring accompaniment of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way?”, “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks, and “American Girl” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Now, I have nothing against the latter two songs (I could take or leave Lenny), but the message of the songs themselves are predictable and a bit on the wimpy side considering the strength of Hillary’s campaign. That’s why we put together our own list of dream songs that should have played background to Hillary’s big moment. That list, plus what we hope Barack Obama will walk out to tonight, after the jump!

The music industry is dominated by men, so it’s no wonder there’s about 10 bazillion songs all about wiener and not so many about vagina. But I found 11 amazing songs that truly spew pure poetry about patsy, yoni, punani, dew flaps, sugar basin, jam cookie, or whatever else you wanna call it.

Rapper T.I.‘s video for “Whatever You Like” premieres tonight at 8pm on BET’s Access Granted, so we thought we’d show you his handsome face in preparation.

French band M83 sounds kind of ‘80s, which is what summertime should sound like, in my opinion. I had Nathan take a listen to their synthy song “Kim and Jessie.” Too bad neither of us can roller-skate, otherwise, we’d totally replay this video over and over and over and over and over until we learned all of the skater girls’ moves. We’d obviously have to wear matching outfits, too.
