Big Apple Hotel Offers Mr. Big Package

Sex and the City Movie Poster

On Friday, May 30th, shoe stores will be empty, makeup counters customerless, salons won’t have a hair to do, and every man in America will be single for a few hours. It’s opening night of the Sex and the City movie!  While looking at all the ads alone can increase your levels of estrogen, and thereby your need for a cosmo, what are the men to do when they have the whole world—sans movie theaters—in the palm of their hands?

Maybe NO ONE Dies In The Sex And The City Movie!

SATC Movie Poster

The New York Times did an interview with Sex And The City Executive Producer, Michael Patrick King, who seemed to pooh-pooh rumors (started by one of the movies’ stars, Cynthia Nixon) that a character dies in the soon-to-be released movie. “Someone’s going to die,” he said, “Like that’s what I’m going to do.” However, King insisted on not having Carrie and Big’s parents involved with the wedding that is at the center of the film, because, “My idea always was that these women were purely creations of New York. The prototype of the series is that these are four grown-ups who make a family of one another.”

Even If Wanted Is No Good, We Still Want To See It

Angelina Jolie hasn’t signed on for a movie that didn’t suck for years (except, maybe, A Mighty Heart and, of course, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), but I really hope that Wanted will be an exception. James McAvoy. Actually using his sexy brogue. Guns. Violence. Assassins. Morgan Freeman narrating. A sex scene that even from the preview looks loin-burning. I haven’t been this excited for a movie that could seriously suck in so long.

Sex And The City And Fergie, A Good Combination?

Fergie

A lot has changed since Sex and the City went off the air four years ago, including the show’s opening music. Written for the movie, “Labels & Love” is inspired by the original, lyric-less ditty and sung by Fergie. “It’s an entirely new song with lyrics, but it has the Sex and the City theme as the DNA—on steroids,” according to the movie’s director, Michael Patrick King. Give it a listen and tell us whether it’s your new favorite song. We think it sounds like it was put together in a hurry on Fergie’s home computer using Garage Band. [Greasy Guide]

We Can’t Resist Kiss The Bride

Remember how I said Made Of Honor looks like practically the same movie as My Best Friend’s Wedding? And that it would probably suck? Well, Kiss The Bride has a pretty darn similar plot to both of those films, only this one features a gay guy, his first boyfriend, and that first boyfriend’s soon-to-be-wife, played by trannylicious Tori Spelling. It also looks vaguely awesome, proving that just because you stole another movie’s plot doesn’t mean you’re not worth seeing. [Kiss The Bride]

Move Over, Peter Pan

Tinker Bell

After years of following the boys around and living in their shadows, which sometimes went astray, Tinker Bell is taking the lead! At least in four direct-to-DVD movies Disney will be releasing over the next few years. Tinker Bell’s star turn begins this October with the cleverly titled Tinker Bell, followed by Tinker Bell: North of Never Land in 2009, Tinker Bell: A Midsummer Storm in 2010, and Tinker Bell: A Winter Story in 2011. Does anyone else feel like Tinker Bell could hold her own in a theater release? Girls love her. Guys love her. She’s like Tina Fey in a tutu. [IMDb]

    Barbarella Does It Again

    Rose McGowan and Robert Rodriguez

Barbarella is an inter-gallactic sex symbol, a lover and a fighter, and she’s coming back to the big screen!  Director Robert Rodriguez, who is known for being Quentin Tarantino’s boy crush and for stylized films like Sin City and Planet Terror, is now taking on the swinging ‘60s space odyssey. And he’s going above and beyond to stick to the original—even behind the scenes. Rose McGowan, Rodriguez’s fiancee, has signed on to fill the go-go boots of Jane Fonda, whose husband Roger Vadim directed the original in ‘68. Although filming had been delayed due to the writers’ strike, hopefully the impending Screen Actors Guild strike won’t get in Barbarella’s way. But if there’s one thing we know about the Amazon woman, nothing and no one can stop her! [Media Morgue]

    Yes, You Can!

Movies about real people are inspiring, but screenwriters and actors dilute their stories a bit by making them “Hollywood,” in my opinion. That’s why Young @ Heart is going to be amazing. It’s a documentary showing a real group of senior citizens who sing cool songs from Coldplay, The Clash, James Brown, and more. I have been waiting for this movie for months—the trailer gives me goose bumps. Luckily, it’s playing in theaters starting tomorrow. [Young @ Heart Chorus]

    The X-Files Re-Opens

    X Files Rolling Stone cover

David Duchovny, aka Mulder, and Gillian Anderson, aka Scully, were both looking hot and cool at WonderCon, the comic convention in San Francisco, yesterday. They reunited to talk about the highly-anticipated, better-late-than-never, X-Files film. Although maybe it was a little TMI, since Gillian Anderson admitted to wishing they would get an “auto-erotic asphyxiation” plot line—like attending a sci-fi convention wasn’t fetishy enough. In addition to the usual suspects, the film, set to be released in July, will also feature rapper Xzibit and actress Amanda Peet. While they didn’t reveal much about the script, writer Chris Carter promises, “It will scare the pants off you. And you’ll get to see Mulder and Scully in a whole new way.” Well, after Duchovny’s hit sexy series Californication, Showtime has already beaten the X-Files movie to the naked punch (no pun intended). But there’s at least one mystery left to solve: David Duchovny, why won’t you love me? [Geek Sugar]

Hot Piece of Ass: Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes in a PETA ad

With skin cancer making fake and bake salons passé, our half-hearted bronze is the result of layers upon layers of tinted lotion rather than years of amazing Latin genetics like Eva Mendes. The star of We Own The Night is a freaking hottie, has the kind of curvy body that should knock some sense into the eating disorder community, not to mention a goofy-meets-exotic appeal that makes her sex on a stick for women as well as men. PETA’s tactics are a little annoying in our opinion, but we (and probably all of mankind) appreciate their “I’d Rather Go Naked” campaigns—especially this one.

Katherine Heigl Bites the Misogynistic Hand That Feeds Her

We’ve got an itty-bitty secret hate of Katherine Heigl in our heart, so imagine our dismay when we discovered that she kinda, sorta agrees with one half of our opinion on her last movie Knocked Up. In the new issue of Vanity Fair, the Grey’s Anatomy actress [Seriously, is there a worse TV show on right now? We know it’s targeted at…well, us, but it seriously sucks.] confesses that she doesn’t think so highly of the film that made her pay scale go from $300,000 per picture (what she was paid for Knocked Up to $6 million (her paycheck for January’s 27 Dresses).

“It was a little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys…I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”

We totally agree with her assessment, but it’s kind hard to pat on the back for it—after all, she did read the script before accepting the project and she had no problem promoting the film she’s suddenly now not so proud of. The check must have cleared! [E! Online and Vanity Fair]
