AP

Come January 20, the White House will have some new residents. The highly attractive Obamas look like the cutest, most well-balanced couple ever, but it wasn’t always that way. Even this seemingly perfect couple had some hard times. Below, a run-down of Barck and Michelle’s relationship. We hope their PDAs won’t stop now that he’s been elected.

The Daily Squeeze: Michelle Obama’s Election Day Dress, The Lob, And Target’s New Designer

Michelle Obama on election night
  • The dress Michelle Obama wore last night was from Narciso Rodriguez’s Spring 2009 collection (see look #39). Personally, I think Michelle should have braved the cold and gone sans cardigan—it sort of ruined the dress’s lines—but she still looked lovely! [WSJ]

Michelle And Barack Obama Steal Each Other’s Material

Apparently Michelle and Barack Obama didn’t have a chance to discuss who was going to share a particular story about how cute their 10-year-old daughter Malia is. On Monday night, Michelle went on “The Tonight Show” and told Jay Leno that Malia didn’t want her dad’s 30-minute commercial to interrupt her favorite TV channels. Then, on “The Daily Show” last night, Barack shared the same anecdote with Jon Stewart. In our opinion, Michelle did a better job with her delivery.

Cheapskate: J.Crew Is Having A Mega Sale

    J. Crew's Fall Sale

Normally, we wouldn’t suggest J.Crew for a “Cheapskate” because the retailer can be a little pricey at times. But since the annual fall sale is going on now, this is the perfect time to stock up on basics. A lot of the sale items are more suited for summer, but we found quite a few items that can be worn in the fall and winter. Seeing as J. Crew is Michelle Obama approved, get there quick before everything sells out.

Slideshow: All The Presidential Candidates’ Accessories

    Barack Obama mouse ears

Because Barack Obama and John McCain are stuck in suits most of the time, the only chance we have to see their style is in the accessories. Now, we think some of the lapel pins that the candidates and their wives have been wearing are a little much—we’re in a recession, people, you shouldn’t be wearing so many diamonds, even if they are fake! Michelle Obama has completely nailed her accessories. Sarah Palin, on the other hand, has gone overboard.

Justin Timberlake has put his “Dick In A Box,” but now he wants to stuff something else in there: a ballot! In this remix of his classic song for “Saturday Night Live”,  JT rocks the vote! {Although, maybe not everyone can get down to change.) Jessica Biel is beautiful, but she makes for a bad fly girl. Thakoon Goes From Prospective First Lady To Target

Before Michelle Obama appeared in a Thakoon dress at the Democratic National Convention, the designer had no idea she would be wearing one of his creations. “I saw her on TV and I couldn’t even look, I was so embarrassed from being excited,”  Thakoon Panichgul said. And now we’re embarrassed for being so excited because Thakoon has been named the next GO International for Target designer! Come December, all of your holiday party dress needs will be answered—if only finding presents for everyone in your family were as easy. [WWD]

Fashion Throwdown: Cindy McCain vs. Michelle Obama

    Cindy McCain/Michelle Obama

Cindy McCain has been getting a great deal of attention for an outfit she wore to the Republican National Convention, which cost $300,000. Since, McCain and Michelle Obama make different, yet equally stylish fashion choices, we thought it was fitting to also give a price breakdown of one of Obama’s Democratic National Convention outfits. Checkout the breakdowns of both outfits after the jump and tell us whose style do you want in the comments.

    Michelle Obama’s DNC Style FOUND!

    Barack and Michelle Obama

Not that style and politics should mix, and we certainly don’t think a candidate or a candidate’s spouse should be criticized for lacking style, but Catherine and I have both been bowled over by Michelle Obama’s nose for fashion over the course of the campaign. And never more so as when we both came into the office after the final night of the DNC and said nearly in unison (after we discussed the actual substance of the night’s big speeches, of course), “Who was Michelle wearing?” Now we have the answer! According to Fashion Week Daily, Obama was wearing a Thakoon dress adorned with three Erickson Beamon broaches. Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether Obama did the accessorizing herself or whether they came with the dress as is, but regardless, this just backs up our belief that printed dresses and costume brooches are totally going to be huge for Fall. Who IS Jill Biden, Anyway?

    Who Is Jill Biden, Anyway?

Now that Barack Obama has chosen Joe Biden as his running mate—and he’s due to speak tonight at the DNC—we decided to indulge our curiosity about his wife Jill. Is she as awesome as Michelle? Does she have a steely stare like Cindy McCain? Does she appreciate a pantsuit? Here’s the scoop on the potential Mrs. Vice-President.

FAMILY: Born Jill Jacobs in 1951, Jill is actually Joe Biden’s second wife. His first wife, Neilia died in a car accident, along with their baby daughter Naomi, in 1972, shortly after he was elected to the Senate. Joe Biden was actually sworn into office at the bedside of his young son Beau, who was also injured in the crash. Five years later, Jill and Joe were married in the Roman Catholic Church. The two met after he saw her picture in a local paper, and by coincidence his brother set him up with her. Jill raised his boy Beau and Robert as if they were her own—the two even included the boys in the wedding ceremony and took them on the honey moon—and also welcomed daughter Ashley. They now also are grandparents to five and live in Biden’s state of Delaware. Joe Biden is known for making the long commute from D.C. to Delaware every night to be with his family.

Michelle Obama At The DNC: What Are Your Hopes For Your Daughters?

Last night Michelle Obama spoke at the Democratic National Convention and gave what I found to be an extremely inspiring speech—I especially appreciated that she didn’t seem to be overly rehearsed and even occasionally stumbled over her words. I’m not down with my politicians or my politicians spouses seeming like robotic newscasters. Anyway, the bulk of Michelle’s speech was about being a wife and mother and her hopes for the country—at the end she brought out daughters Malia and Sascha, who behaved as adorably as you would expect. Politics aside, Michelle’s speech got me thinking about what it means to be a successful professional, partner, and parent, especially when she referenced “Hillary Clinton’s 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.” it was clear she did appreciate what her husband’s rival did for women, especially given what her hopes must be for her own daughters. With that in mind—and that today marks the 88th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote—what are your hopes for your children, specifically your daughters? A few of mine after the jump and I really hope you’ll chime in with your own in the comments.

Tyra Does Michelle Obama, Plus Her 6 Craziest Stunts

    Tyra Banks/Bazaar

Last night I was on “Showbiz Tonight” discussing Tyra Banks’ Bazaar cover, and the photo shoot within the magazine in which she dresses up as Michelle Obama. The shoot is not a fashion spread—i.e. there’s no “10 Looks Michelle Obama Will Need As A First Lady, As Worn By Model Tyra Banks”—and the interview accompanying the images isn’t really serious in nature, though Tyra does say that her Secret Service code-name would be “Kiss My Fat Ass”. Rather, it seems like Bazaar is trying to cash in on the Obama craze in any way they can, since they apparently couldn’t get the real woman to do a shoot with them. (By the way, I predict Michelle will be in Vogue, instead!) As for Tyra? Well, this is hardly the first cuh-razy stunt the talk show host has pulled. After all, Ty-Ty seems to feel like the world is The Tyra Show, and we’re all just lucky to get out alive. After the jump, six other classically nutty and self-absorbed “All About Tyra” moments.
